Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge draws mixed reviews, with its central location earning praise for proximity to dining, nightlife, and attractions. While the modern and trendy atmosphere appeals to a youthful demographic, some guests feel the focus is excessive. Travelers enjoy the clean, contemporary rooms but note their compact size and missing amenities.
Opinions on service vary, with commendations for friendliness contrasting with remarks on inattentiveness. Despite the satisfactory amenities and trendy bar, the value proposition is questioned due to room conditions and breakfast service issues.

I had a solo stay sept 22. The hotel was clean, trendy and located near some student housing. A 5 minute walk across the st will get you to a bus stop with regular buses to town (pay via contactless £1.80 single £4.50 max daily fair), a 15min walk to princes st.
The room was stylish, I found the deconstructed wardrobe quite useful, although I'm the type who only unpacks for the day ahead. The room was clean, although a soap smudge was on the tile when I arrived and remained throughout my stay. Tea making facilities in room although no mini fridge nor slippers or robe. I noticed that the only bin was in the bathroom. The room is small but very well designed so it feels spacious and well planned. The biggest let down for me was the mattress and pillow. I note some other reviewers have mentioned this and I had underestimated their reviews. The mattress is hard as a rock, I am obese and can only imagine how hard it is for the average sized person. There also is a cover on it that I found irritating whenever I moved. The pillows are cheap, too light and too flat. As a result I did not have a single good night's sleep as I kept waking with joint pain. Such a shame and I think that Moxy should offer Mattress toppers on request as I understand the cost involved in replacing their mattresses, this would be a solution to improve the health and sleep of guests.
The room has a good entertainment system on the TV and I be spent my evenings in the (hard) bed watching TV and listening to the radio. Could hear the upstairs neighbors walking around
The hotel does not serve dinner in-house so I ordered via deliveroo, some good options available otherwise a walk up the road to Lothian road offers a lot of good restaurants. There is a pret nearby for Pret subscribers, also a ln Odeon.
Check in was at 3pm, which is late if you arrive early as I did but staff will happily take your luggage in for you, there are also lockers available. I was happy to see hand sanitizer stations dotted near to touch points.
Breakfast was fine, continental style with trays of hot sausages, eggs, beans and bacon, bagels, breads, juice, doughnuts, yogurt, cereal and fruits. It was ok as I paid little for it. I would not be happy paying more than a fiver (£5) for what is available. First morning the staff were constantly cleaning up and replacing food but the second day despite me getting up earlier, there was little hot food left and I didn't see staff cleaning and replacing food.
Staff were super friendly and helpful. Lots of places to sit and chill. Trolleys to help you take luggage up to your room, smoking area. Etc..
I would definitely stay again if a mattress topper could be arranged.

We stayed here for a 3 night city break in September. We got the train to Edinburgh, the closest station is Haymarket (less than 15 minutes walk) however we used Waverley for our departure and this was less than half an hours walk so both stations are in walking distance. Location wise it was great for us as we have enjoy walking and nowhere felt too far away.
Check in was great, the woman on reception was very friendly and the welcome cocktail was a lovely touch. The general reception area was a nice place to chill out with a cocktail. We didn’t have breakfast so I can’t comment on the food and didn’t use the gym either. We visited the rooftop bar which was nice to have located on the 6th floor.
The room was clean and the bed was comfy. There wasn’t a massive amount of space (we had a queen room) which was fine as we were out and about a lot of the time but it sometimes felt a bit cramped when we got ready - more so in the bathroom. The shower was okay but strangely the base was on a bit of a slope which isn’t something I’ve encountered before. We both loved the LED motion sensor guide lights which meant you didn’t need to mess about trying to switch a main light on during the night. The other thing to note is there isn’t tea/coffee/ a kettle in the room (which probably helps towards the good value in price), you could grab a cup downstairs in reception and take it up to the room if you wanted.
Overall a great stay for the price and somewhere we would choose to stay again.

A modern funky hotel - although Fountainbridge is not a particularly great area, it is literally a 5-10 minute walk to the restaurants, pubs, Usher Hall on Lothian Road and then just a few minutes more to Princes Street or Grassmarket. And if you're feeling lazy then the bus goes right past the hotel into the city centre. We didn't pay for breakfast but it looked OK and there are 3-4 fab coffee shops within a few hundred metres of the hotel. Only criticism is that there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room though free tea and coffee are available in the reception/bar area so no tea in bed for me in the morning! And the rooftop bar lacked any atmosphere and in fact the only time we went up there, we waited 10 minutes for anyone to serve us despite it being really empty so we gave up and had a drink in the bar downstairs which had the added bonus of a free table football machine!

really stylish, modern, cool hotel in a really good location. its close to all the things you want to see in the centre of edinburgh, on a major route in and out of the city, but residential enough to have 5 supermarkets within easy walking distance. there are also restaurants and bars galore, and even 3 cinemas within 10 minutes walk, but if you stay in the rooms on the canal side of the hotel, you cant hear a peep of traffic.
as soon as i walked in and saw that the reception was at one end of the bar, i realised this was my kind of place! it has signature scents in public areas, a really decent breakfast in the bar area, friendly, chilled staff, windows that actually open and a rooftop bar.
but...the thing i thought was the very best thing about the moxy was the lighting in the rooms. now i have stayed in a lot of hotels, but i have never seen more useful and well thought-out lighting. under the end of the bed there is a light sensitive strip light...no more searching for the light switch in the dark in an unfamiliar room and knocking everything over. just stick one of your feet onto the floor, and hey presto....there is light. i honestly thought that this was so ingeniously practical, i have put similar lights into my own bedroom at home. way to go moxy.

Stayed here for 3 nights for work trip and was expecting a great hotel. Checking staff were friendly when I arrived at 10.30pm but the rest of the staff during my stay left a lot to be desired and frankly could not be bothered - one example was standing at an un-crowded bar for 10 minutes waiting for order drinks and food where one barman just walked off into the kitchen and the other started cleaning out cocktail shakers and did not even stop doing that when I politely asked if he could serve me.
Breakfast was a joke too: they offered a basic selection of food which was all laid out down one small back wall which was not easily accessible when you have a crowd of people all trying to get to the same thing with trays of food with no where to put them down to get your items, they also were reluctant to refill items that had run out and that included napkins and mugs too!!!
After undertaking a 30km walk on the Friday we chose to stay at the hotel for dinner and we were served up some horrible cheap food which was just thrown into a quick cook oven in the bar and then chucked on a plate - no thought at all had been put into any off it and you certainly were not going to get any salad items within your burger or mango chutney for your curry!!
The only positive was that the room was clean, however there is no where to unpack your clothes as they do not provide any cupboards or drawers so you will be living out of your suitcase.
Shame that the overall service was so bad really as its location is 10 mins walk from the main highlights of Edinburgh but I would not choose to stay there again as frankly the staff need a far more acceptable level of customer service training or they need to leave and find a job outside of a service and customer facing industry.

Stayed at the Moxy on two separate occasions within a week for a visa application. The hotel is gorgeous and the rooms are very well decorated.
Great features including plug sockets by the bed, motion sensor lights under the bed and free wi-fi. The parking is subsidised at the Thistle Car Park and is £10 for 24 hours which is incredibly cheap for the location. 4 mins walk away so very close by.
The staff were always helpful and polite and could not have done more to help.
The best hotel stay I've experienced for a while and hope to return!

A plastic mattress protector on the bed is something I would expect from a cheap B&B, not from a hotel that is part of the Marriott chain. This spoilt the room for me, getting into bed and having a plastic mattress protector that made a noise every time you moved was not pleasant. This aside the room was good and well maintained. Location was also ideal for my needs. It was disappointing that the rooftop bar was not available.

Box of tissues in room was empty and only one towel left. No water in the room. No phone. It’s basically a trendy 2star student accommodation with a major lack of attention to detail. I left a brand new bottle of toiletries in my room and when I rang the same day the acting manager said it had been discarded as routine practice, without checking and refused to elevate the call or check for me.

We stayed here for one night, Sunday-Monday. We arrived at 12pm off our train to dump luggage, there is a handful of lockers to store luggage and if these are full there is no where else. We were originally told that there were no facilities to store any of our luggage as it had been a “very busy morning” and no lockers were free but resolved this by pure luck. If you have a large suitcase, I’d bear this in mind if checking in before 3pm.
We came back later at around 9pm to check in. We got to our room and some jewellery had been left from the previous guest which made me question if the room had been cleaned. The bed has only one pillow and the mattress is covered in a plastic cover which is very noisy when moving in bed. We were based on the 1st floor, the bar below is open until 12am and the music was very loud. The bathroom is extremely small and there is no where to put anything generally in the room, I’m not sure how we would have managed had our stay been longer than one night. The TV speaker volume changes by itself and buffers constantly.
Breakfast was okay, no major complaints although a personal preference is non-shared condiments e.g. individual jam pots. They constantly ran out of glasses/mugs/cutlery there didn’t seem to be enough staff to be keeping an eye out for these things or clearing tables.
Not an awful stay but the basics are missing, I wouldn’t stay here again and certainly not for the price you pay.

It would appear that this hotel is understaffed. We arrived for check in and had to queue for 40 minutes. The only two staff members organising check in seemed stretched and unorganised.
The hotel interior is quite funky however the rooms really are budget. Our room had no fresh/bottled water, paper cups for hot drinks, one pillow per person, a waterproof mattress protector that rustled when you sat on the bed and a very uncomfortable mattress. It really did scream student accommodation.
Breakfast was another massive negative for this hotel. The buffet breakfast had a really poor choice of food, cheap ham and one selection of cheese. On our first morning for breakfast we couldn't get a tea or coffee from the one machine due to the wait. The second morning was a long wait for cooked eggs while the rest of our food (only bacon and sausage on offer) went cold. The tea/coffee machine broke and no breakfast juice.
We're both really disappointed with our first experience with the Moxy hotel group. We understand this is a city centre hotel however £250 is really expensive for what you're getting. In future we will do more research and read past reviews.

11, 16, 10, 35. Get the bus on the castle side of the street. It's only 2 stops from the bottom of Lothian road busstop, the one opposite poundland. Cross over to the poundland side...its about 5 mins walk past the huge Evans bike shop on the other side, just past tesco. Easy peasy...
