We were there with 13 family members for a function on the island. The property is beautiful, right on the water. Our room was very cozy. Good bed and a nice bathroom. The dining room pictures were showing a very nice Dining room with flowers, white tablecloths etc. Not at all what we got. You expect a place like this to have good food and service! Some of our group were looking for a nice dinner. What they got was not really acceptable. You can get a better burger in any greasy spoon place
No table cloths, one waitress, not at all what's advertised.
When we came back from our function around 9 pm. The parking lot all the way to the rooms was pitch black. Lucky we had cellphones with us to see where we were walking without breaking a leg. Apparently they are closing in a few days which is no excuse. Some of our group were restaurant and inn owners from Switzerland and if it would not have been for the Scenery the stay would not have been anything good. Incidentally the rates were high season rates and did not reflect the the poor dining room service. Also the included breakfast was served in a cardboard box piled up on a table. It was ok for a place up in the mountains were you would take a box lunch.
My beef is tell the customer what to expect and don't put false pictures in the advertisement period.

The location and amenities are perfect. It still is suffering from Covid restrictions and when we stayed the spa was closed so be warned.

The lodges are a little tired but acceptable. The real beauty is the loges are on the sea front so from your deck or hot tub you have the opportunity of seeing dolphins, seals, sea otters or even whales and orcas.

The lodges have full kitchens, laundry facilities so you can be self contained. Restaurant has a limited menu but OK not gourmet. The is a free ferry shuttle to Campbell River and the sister resort. Free and runs until around 10pm every half hour so very good and open up a few more options.

There are kiaks, fishing trips and boat rentals so many options.

We had reservations at their restaurant, arrived to find their deck tables had very few umbrellas & extras weren’t available. The waitress tried her best but was overwhelmed, very slow service. We ordered some appetizers & drinks to start, the squid was nicely cooked but too salty, the kale salad was a disappointment. I’ve never had a kale salad that was presented like a green salad, in torn pieces, couldn’t eat the large leaves they were impossible to chew. They ran out of the beer that we had ordered, then the second drink order was forgotten. Thinking that the restaurant is poorly run, they don’t seem to care about their patrons!

It really goes downhill from the water taxi ride. From the moment we walked in, the staff was not helpful nor welcoming. We did have a reservation, as it was my birthday which we advised when we arrived.
The restaurant was empty, with only a few tables seated on the patio. As the sun was nearing setting, we asked if we could please have a drink outside to enjoy the sunset, and then come indoors to enjoy our meals. We were told that was not an option due to covid, and that they were fully booked that evening.
I observed the staff cleaning a table outside after a departure, and it was not a substantial amount of work/effort made to prepare for the next patrons, so why not agree to our request?

There was only one other table that joined us indoors all evening, and there were empty tables available outside the entire time. Why did the staff, who were unable to answer questions about the menu, except that when asked what is in the croquettes they stated "they are served under the fish. further questioning from the chef they came back with the statement they are adult tater tots".
When we left, on the water taxi back to the lodge, we spoke to the other passengers whom we rode over with, and asked how their dinner was. They were also told there was no sitting both outdoors and indoors as they were also told fully booked. And the food and service was also disappointing and they would likely not return.

Considering the high cost of dining out, along with the price of the rooms I was quite surprised at the sub par service we received.
This resort is very much run down, which is very sad to see.
The staff level of service is more suitable for a roadside motel and not a fine dining resort establishment.

I reached out to the hotel to discuss, to give them the opportunity to respond prior to posting online, and received a very prickly response.
They truly do not seem to care how people feel, and blamed it on a "lack of training and no show reservations"
I will not be returning to April Point for food or lodging. There are so many lovely properties in the area, at much better prices with fresh food options!

This property was disappointing. It’s obvious that the ownership has not invested in the hotel for far too long. The carpets are old and musty. The room is dank and the bathroom is ancient.
The breakfast they provide is in a styrofoam container and consists of a stale chocolate muffin and a boiled egg.
The deck off the room was clearly rotted so they screwed a sheet of plywood on top. There are no amenities, no toiletries, no water equipment. Half the lights were burned out. The mattress and pillows were ancient.
What a shame as it’s such a beautiful location and has great potential but it’s simply been left to literally rot.

Great food, excellent management and a relaxing experience during our 3 day stay! The boat shuttle across from April Point to Painters Cove each morning was an enjoyable feature with wildlife in abundance. The rooms (we had a 2 bedroom suite overlooking the harbour) were exactly what we needed. Waking up to the spectacular sunrise over the harbour was memorable.

The location is incredible. This is an authentic wilderness/ fishing lodge experience. Eagles, seals and otters make this cove their home. Sitting on our deck at sunset we heard the distinctive splash of breaching whales so were lucky enough to spot a couple of Orcas further out to sea. The rooms remind me of the lodges I stayed in as a child in the 1960s - wooden building, wood paneling, wood ceiling. Room is fairly basic but everything had been recently repainted and carpets, curtains and bed quite new; it was clean. We liked it. Every room has a deck and large picture windows. The grounds are lovely and the cabins look idyllic and possibly newer. The restaurant service is slow as they are understaffed but the food was nice and the views from the terrace are unbeatable. It would be advisable to call and make dinner reservations a few days ahead. Staff were welcoming and delightful. If you would like an authentic, slightly old fashioned BC wilderness experience with no camping involved then this is it!

At the last minute the Resort cancelled stays for us and many others attending a wedding on Quadra Island throwing the whole affair into disarray and creating unnecessary stress for multiple parties, potentially ruining the wedding. And why? The bogus reason they gave was they didn't have enough occupancy - yet there were only a couple of rooms still open just prior to the cancellation.
Now we're paying more (last minute) for accommodation that isn't even on Quadra meaning the whole event will have to end early to avoid being most of the guests being trapped when Ferry service stops. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Book here at your own risk!

April Resort must have been an amazing resort at some point in the past years. Location is absolutely amazing, and opportunities that nature offers there as well. The potential of this place is so strong.
The problem is the serious lack of staff and absence of management. The staff actually on site is courageous to be working here as each of them has got a great workload.
No cleaning in the room for 4 nights, even though we were a family of 5 staying in the room. We had to insist so that they would change the sofa bed sheets after a pee incident at night by our kid.
Breakfast is replaced with a box, quite basic and not very pleasant.
They can only serve a small number of tables for diner (because of staff issue again) so if you dont book ahead you cannot have diner on site.
It really is a pity considering the potential and beauty of the location
Their sister hotel the Painters Lodge seems to be muche better managed.

For almost 10 years now we've been going to April Point Pub for lunch during the summer months to sit on the patio and enjoy a great view and lunch. Over the last couple years however, we found the food quality deteriorating. We made our first trip this year just last week and it will be the last. The food was terrible and like many places, ridiculously priced for what you get. The menu was really short so there weren't many options. We heard the kitchen had a fire and variety was limited. Should that also affect the quality of what's left? No, it shouldn't. Don't waste your time or money here, you'll be disappointed.

Hi. Do you have to pay for parking at April POint Resort?
Answer from Lynn S
Victoria, Canada31 contributions10 helpful votes
A bit late in response but think you got the answer. parking is free but you cannot park at your cabin. It is a short walk to the accommodations from the parking lot. Also stairs might be an issue - if so, you might want to ask for ground floor and accessible.

Dear Marilyn, Thanks for your inquiry. Campbell River is known as ‘the salmon capital of the world’ and July – September is considered the prime fishing season (peaking in August) in Discovery Passage and Desolation Sound. We do indeed have a Marina at April Point Resort and Spa with a moorage rate of $1.50 ft/night. Amenities include 15, 30, 50 & 100 amp power; water, showers and laundry; wifi and picnic areas. We also have the restaurant and spa facilities at the Resort. Reservations are strongly advised and you can contact the Marina directly on 1-250-285-2222 ext 264. the 2BR cabin we stayed in looked towards the marina (looking towards gowlland island or where the water taxi drops you off). from what i recall, its probably a 5-10 min leisurely stroll to the restaurant. let us know how it goes if you book the cabins.

Hi Roy. There are several different ways to get to April Point. If you're flying, the best route is probably to fly into Vancouver, then take a flight from Vancouver to Campbell River. If you speak to our sales team before hand we can likely arrange to pick you up at The airport and take you to our sister resort, Painter's Lodge. From there it's just a short complimentary water taxi ride to April Point. Or, if you're willing to rent a car, you could fly into Vancouver, and then drive to the resort. This would involve taking a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. From their it's about an hour and a half drive to Painter's Lodge where you can take the water taxi over to April Point. If you'd like more info feel free to call us and speak to one of our reservations coordinators. They likely know a few more options for getting to the resort.

I SUGGEST YOU CALL THE GOOD FOLKS AT OBMG, 1-800-663-7090/ They have an awesome Japanese looking Aveda stand alone building spa that directly overlooks the water. To get to the spa you will need to book ahead and plan on taking their free water taxi from Painter's Lodge across the channel.
