I have been camping in another location which is considered basic back country, as there is no WiFi, showers, or affordable laundry services. On my first visit, I was greeted by Jessica. She was professional, helpful, and very positive. Jessica assisted me with knowledge about the laundry (washer and dryer) that were available, plus coin showers. I visited many times throughout my stay at another campsite and found Jessica to be most helpful. Attitude is everything and her genuine kindness shone through!

I had a hard time rating this place. I'll start with the pros
Staff here are very nice. They are attentive and in top of things. You need something, it gets done promptly. The facilities are fun for the family. Pool and mini golf are big hits. Store is great with lots there.
Cons
Water pressure and heating in the cabin we stayed in were terrible. Doors didn't close properly. Barbecues for use arent clean and are in pretty rough shape. Also, feels like you are in a pretty weird community of people here. Not sure if some people are permanent residents but it has that trailer park feel about it.

Overall, if you let little things get to you, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want to go somewhere your kids will love, you get treated very well and you're very close to the ocean, I'd recommend this!

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was surprisingly quiet, and only a 5 minute walk down the road to the beach. There's laundry and a convenience store on site. Most people staying at this time of year seem to be long stayers or permanent residents. The bed was a large king size and super comfortable. A couple of improvements I would suggest for the executive suite: provide a small stool so people who are under 6 ft can reach the shelves in the kitchenette. Replace the battered furniture with something more comfortable and in better shape. Since electrical outlets are in hard-to-reach places, provide a surge protected power bar.

The staff at the front desk seemed very confused/“like everything was a hassle! When they realized we had booked through Booking.com they seemed even more so! When we asked for receipts or breakdown of the payments that were processed (one without our knowledge) they simply told us they couldn’t do anything and we had to talk to Booking.com! Maybe take the resort off third party websites if your staff can not explain! The cabins we stayed in both smelled awful!!!!! Cat urine and cigarette smoke. “Fully equipped cabins” were far from. Come prepared with your own kitchen tools and garbage bags, paper towel, etc! The bed sheets all seemed damp. No duvets which was odd. Just a flat sheet and some sort of thin shiny brown decorative one which we suspected was not washed.

A lot of sketchy characters around this “resort”. Lock up your valuables. Incompetent managers and owners. The rooms were disgusting as I found a blood stain on the bedding. For the price you pay in the off season, I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I’d say more, but I see in other reviews the general manager Paul is narcissistic, and spends more effort gaslighting past guests, than genuinely caring about ever having them back. I would recommend any of the other beachside hotels and resorts before this one. It also is a long sketchy walk to the beach area along a busy highway. For camping I’d recommend the Qualicum First Nation campground in Qualicum bay 10 minutes away on the ocean and very well taken care of. I hope this review helps.

I had a reservation for a 2 bedroom townhouse for July 2022 that was booked in Sept 2021 with the front desk staff at a rate of $299/night. Today I got a call from the resort saying they could not honour my reserved rate and that it would $499/night or I would have to cancel. This is horrible business practice!! That reservation was made 6 months ago and it was the rate that was negotiated with the front desk staff!! I have a confirmation letter and everything. Now most places in the area are full for the summer. I would never stay there now!!!!

Response from Paul Riverside Resort, Owner at Riverside Resort
Responded May 2, 2022
Unfortunately, you reserved your accommodation a year in advance and the rates have gone up since that time. We gave you a courtesy call for you to hold, or cancel far in advance, outside the 30-day window we have to change the rates, according to market trends. We can still book you in at the new rate if you wish. We have beautiful accommodations, with a waterslide and mini-golf, included in this rate, more accommodating than any other property in the area. Thank you, for your understanding Riverside Resort Management.

Like another reviewer, I had a stay booked for July. I only made the booking in March by calling the resort directly to make the reservation.

Was extremely peeved that the owner is choosing to increase rates for summer and not honor their confirmation email with prices and dates.

They phoned us to tell us their new price and stated that they absolutely don't have to honor our reservation since they have given us more than 30 days notice.

Further, the owner replied to another reviewer and said that it was because they booked a year in advance....
Seems like a last minute cash grab?

I would hate to go and see what other ways the owner might gauge customers.....

This business refused to give me a refund which was owed to me. No replies to phone calls, letters or emails, which they pretended they had not received. Had to go to a legal hearing just to get part of what owed. Warning to the wise: make sure you don't pay for ANYTHING in advance here -- only after you've got what you ordered.

I wasnt going to complain about this hotel as we were grateful to get a room last minute…..but i just spent 3 hours trying to get all the pitch off my car from the trees in front of our designated parking spot. The room itself was barely passable - the bed felt like it was about to collapse, but for our one night purposes we thought we could deal with it - Nope , we had to leave at 5:30 am because the smell of mold and chlorine was making both my husband and me sick. We were on the ground floor and didnt feel safe opening windows with all the sketchy clientele roaming around. Not a safe environment. But getting home to find my beautiful vehicle covered in pitch was the last straw. Do not have one good word to say about this place.

This could be a lovely place if it was managed better. And if it was managed better then perhaps one might be able to swallow the exorbitant camping rates. Strangely, when booking one cannot choose their site nor will they assign you a site until the day you arrive. We asked that we (several RV’s) be located together but no consideration was given to that request. And yet once we arrived and saw the site they assigned to we asked if we could have a site closer to our family but they said no, it was booked. Again, what!? So, some people are allowed to choose their site and others aren’t?? Thankfully we have a trailer with full bathroom facilities because there was ONE men’s toilet and shower. For a whole campground. There was a second one but it was being used for storage- what?! We had a large group there for a weekend, some camping, some in the motel. None of us had a good experience and no where near worth what we spent. The one good thing this year: the pool was heated. Super disappointing. It could be such a good place…

Doesn't matter how many "Unlimited Packages" you buy for the Pool & Slide access as they cutoff access when they reach a total of 50 people per lifeguard inside the gate. On each day that we stayed there last August, our grandkids were refused pool access at sometime during each day because of overflow. Meanwhile Corey was inside selling "Unlimited Access Passes" to outsiders who were not even staying at the complex. Hope this helps.
