HI-Canmore is spacious, warm and inviting with exceptionally clean facilities! We have two gas fireplaces, plenty of space to spread out and a relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen is very clean, well stocked and has commercial-quality appliances. The dorm rooms are low-capacity, sleeping 4 to 6 people per room and are very comfortable.

Detailed Reviews

The hostel had a very clean, well equipped kitchen, comfortable and well decorated communal areas and an absolutely stunning view. The outdoor areas (patio and benches) were perfect for eating meals, reading a books, etc. when it wasn’t too cold out. The hostel is in a great location as it is a short drive into town, but doesn’t have the noise of cars/trains/people as you would in Canmore.

The big downside of the hostel was the beds. They simply weren’t very comfortable. Furthermore the rooms are not well designed. I was in a private room with my family, which meant privacy wasn’t an issue. Privacy curtains, reading lights and personal outlets would make the rooms better for sharing.

Despite the downsides, should I ever be in Canmore again, I would again choose to stay at this hostel.

We recently held my daughter's wedding at this hostel in Canmore. It was an excellent location for a wedding. We held the ceremony outdoors with a lovely view of the three sisters and the valley. Indoors, was a room to hold the reception dinner with lovely big windows and a stone fireplace. The room is not large, but we were able to seat 60 people in a cozy way. The kitchen is very large and my caterer said it was a great kitchen to work in. It had a decent amount of equipment, like large bowls, cutting boards, a big coffee maker etc. And a stand up freezer and large cooler that was awesome for storing all the food. There was still space to set up the buffet table there. The two decks were very handy for setting out refreshments, giving people a place to mingle, and extra space for the dance. A games room downstairs let the groomsmen have a place to hang out. There were sufficient bathrooms and showers and all the bed linens were provided. Best of all, we were able to sleep the two families and the bridal party upstairs in the dorms and did not have to find accommodations in Canmore. The staff were wonderful at helping us out, finding things we needed and answering questions. They stayed out of the way, but were always ready to help if needed. The venue is very clean and has a beautiful rustic look. It was a beautiful setting for the wedding and we are very pleased.

Had a wonderful time staying at this hostel. The cabins are right in the mountains and super private. They are clean and extremely relaxing. I stayed for a week and met some really great people from all over the world. The staff at the front desk couldn't have been more accommodating, they were extremely helpful and super nice. They have an excellent common room with a pool table, foosball table and a large flat screen tv. They even had passes to the elevation centre for only $9 and free bike rentals. If you're going to stay in Canmore, I highly recommend this place!

This is a lovely hostel a bit outside of Canmore, a car is needed to get around the valley. The views are stunning. Great kitchen facilities. Clean and inviting. There are a number of public spaces indoors and on decks outside. We had planned a 3 day stay, but extended it to 7. We will definitely return.

I was surprised and disappointed after reading good reviews on this hostel. First I must say if you are looking for a young social feel this is not so much a young crowd. Majority of the occupants were retirement age. Additionally The rooms are incredibly small, not enough room to do anything but come in and get into your bunk. I have to say it was horrible for getting sleep. Sound carried straight up from the kitchen and through the walls. Hard to sleep with snoring coming right through the walls and people yapping until midnight loudly before banging around getting ready for bed.. The first night our female room had a man in it which was apparently a mistake and he wasn't meant to get that key but took it. Not a reassuring answer to a concern. I have stayed in hostels before but this was by far my least favourite due to a lot of noise late into the night and very small rooms, even for a hostel. If you are a heavy sleep and perhaps looking for a more mature crowd come on in.

On the plus, there is a nice view of the mountains from the bench outside and there are no other businesses near so it is quite OUTSIDE.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, and I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at HI Canmore. I do understand that some of our dorm rooms are quite small, however our common areas are very roomy and we try to make sure that everyone has space to socialize on the main floor. It is very difficult to manage other guests who are not respecting the quiet times in the rooms, but your point about the male person staying in a female dorm is a concern, and I have changed the self check in system so this mistake cannot be repeated. Our location does attract an more mature crowd as we are in a quieter setting and we market our hostel as a place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. We do often recommend the Hostel Bear in Canmore for guests looking for a younger crowd as this is a great alternative. Thank you, Rob Shears

I travel functional, and ACC Canmore is just that! We were doing an Avalanche Skills course, the classroom was just downstairs. Awesome location, cozy and beautiful. Kitchen is one of the best, I've seen, I could easily pump out food for 100 people here. Living room was really nice to loaf around in! Bathrooms are clean, and newly renovated. Ample storage downstairs for your gear, and to top it off, $3.50 a beer at the reception with some nice choices! Wi-Fi...everything you need. Staff is courteous, and helpfull. $10 cab ride into town if you need to go...

We had a great stay at the Alpine Club in Canmore. We stayed at the Boswell Cabin, which was really private and cozy. It had all of the amenities that you needed. I would suggest that they provide fans for their guests. The room got a little stuffy, even with the windows open.

My wife likes the hospitality of staff, my 12 year old daughter likes to play Pokemon Monopoly in the spacious Guides room as well as the soccer machine, my friend likes to read in the cosy armchair in the living room. Nothing to complaint really, for such a small fee. Unforunately, the wildfire nearby makes our nights hot and stuffy. We have to open the door of the dormitory to let in fresh air until 2am when outside temperature dropped to low teens. From hindsight, we should take our beddings to sleep on the living room sofa. Still, the place was such a gem in the mountain. Even a bit posh.

Incredible Valley. The place has to be the best and most scenic Valley in all of the Canadian Rockies. I've been there close to 40 times in the Summer, Fall and Winter months.

The best time to visit in the Summer is late July to the end of September. In the winter you can ski the 12kms up the road to enjoy a spectacular rustic winter get away in log cabin in the mountains. In the summer you can take a bus or hike. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Charming little chalet in Canmore, beautiful wooden new home that you can rent for you and your friends. We use the whole home for ourselves, the other guests only arrived very late that night. We had a fondue in front of magnificent Canmore view. Definitely worth it, and the price you pay is ridiculous for what you get. Ask to get the "private" home, I don't know about the hostel itself but the 2 wooden homes are a must

Hello There, You can check the Alpine Club of Canada website and look at availability there, as you may find that more dates are available. However we do have a limited number of private rooms and they do book out quickly. Thank you, Rob Shears
