This is a lovely little hostel overlooking a trail riding facility--which means a fantastic view for a horse fanatic like me (but to those non-fanatics, don't worry--I, at least, didn't smell them)! The beds were surprisingly comfortable (and as someone with fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition, comfortable beds are a must) and the staff members were all friendly and helpful. Downsides were a minor earwig problem (one of my roommates killed one, and I saw two on the outside of the doorway of another room) and horrible pillows. The price was right, the coffee was decent, and the atmosphere was relaxed. I'd definitely return.

My daughter and I have been camping the Maritimes. We had a huge storm about to hit us and there is now way we were going to try to set up camp in a thunderstorm. I called this wonderful hostel and arranged a room. Wonderful front desk people. Epitomized the down home feel one thinks of when meeting and interacting with maritime people.
We were given a triple room for just the two of us at now extra cost. $ 67 dollars all in plus a great selection for breakfast included.
Clean rooms and building. Very clean showers. Nice big games room. Fab BBQ and well stocked kitchen.
Do yourself a favour, skip the fancy over cost hotels, save a bundle and meet great travelers. Stay here.

This hostel was a bit different than what I'm used to as a solo, young traveller. The hostel is a large barn that got converted into a hostel. There are multiple rooms and about 4-5 showers for females (and about the same number for males, I'd assume). I stayed in the female dorm which had 8 beds. There are a lot of activities in the upstairs lounge area of the hostel including pool, small air hockey table, TV with cable, ping pong, and a bbq. There is also an equipped kitchen with 2 fridges and 1 stove. Breakfast includes toast and oatmeal, coffee and tea.

I found that this hostel had a lot of families and as a result, had a very laid-back family atmosphere. There were some solo travelers but I found that they kept to themselves. You will need a car to get to this hostel and around the hostel. I didn't visit the beach but I heard that you can either drive or walk there. A little disappointed that you couldn't see the beach from the hostel, but it's understandable because it's a budget friendly place to stay. The hostel is clean and the staff were helpful at giving directions and recommendations!

Stayed in a room with a queen bed with 2 sets of bunk beds with me my husband, 2 children and my parents. Paid extra money to have a room with our own private bathroom. First impression of the property was great. Young girl at the desk was very nice(only positive thing was her) when we continued up to our room we found the common area that had a pool table which was missing balls and broken since the balls just fall out of the side of the table. Than we found a ping pong table with no balls, really? Night time, WiFi isn't working on any device we have, I go down to the desk she resets it and still doesn't work, we have up and went to bed. Could barely sleep all night from the heat since there was no air conditioner. So wake up in the morning to have a shower after sweating all night and surprise there isn't a drop of warm water, so payed extra money for a bathroom I couldn't use. So while packing up at 10 am my son is in the family common area with 2 other children that were also guest there, we were greeted by the lady who owned the place to growl about the children being too loud, I couldn't believe it they weren't doing anything wrong at all.and not to mention quiet time was from 11pm-7am and it was 10am?? After I said that to her she walked away and said nothing, very unprofessional!! While walking down to check out we seen 2 men sleeping on the couch in the common area(NOT sleeping area) so weird that that they would allow that. I was so upset by this point everything has gone wrong that could I went down to the desk she walked away. The gentleman asked me if he could help me and I told him no that I would like to speak to the lady, wanted her to understand why I was upset again reminded her of how bad our stay was and NOT to my surprise she didn't care at all. She told me to have a great day with a fake smile on her face and I replied back that I would because we were on our way to a different hotel and to expect a nice honest review so others know how rude she is and how unprofessional the place is run. It is NOT ok to advertise the place to be kid friendly and than allow full grown men to be sleeping in the game rooms where the children are allowed to play anytime after 7am. Do not waste your money staying here, unlike us if nothing else is available stay home or sleep in your car, I wouldn't stay here again ever even if it was free!!!

My son was attending the Atlantic Hockey Showcase in Charlottetown PEI And originally we had planned to camp but as the date drew closer the weather got worse...so last minute we needed to change plans in a city that we didn't know, with a lot going on

Google searched and found the Brackley Beach Hostel... Immediately from the initial call I was impressed. While in Europe and school we had stayed in hostels and while I was a little apprehensive about a Canadian Hostel at first, that vanished quickly
The staffed awesome. The rooms are minimalistic but still very nice and very clean. The amenities are more than you will need, and in my mind beat a hotel hands down. Open kitchen cuts down on meal costs and in our case with sports, allows more control on diet.
Laundry facilities are clean and cheap and the common area and games area have more than enough to keep people. Use in down times
Whether managing a budget or not or just looking for a different experience for yourself or the family. The Brackley Beach Hostel is an awesome little place. Thankful for the find and the experience!!!

Terrible place: dirty showers, dirty sheets and completely unapologetic owner. The place is left completely unattended every day from 21h30. You will be charged fully even if you don't stay there. You would be better off sleeping outside.

Brackley Beach Hostel, PEI

I’ll start by saying that traveling is very difficult for me as I have CRPS, a chronic pain condition that effects different limbs and parts of my body. My pain condition was caused by an accident in 2017, when I was hit by a truck crossing the street, leaving me with permanent disabilities.

Because of my condition, I was nervous about being in pain or having stress during this vacation. This caused such anxiety that I almost canceled on 3 different occasions. Deciding to put my fears aside and go for it, I started looking for a place to book. Unfortunately due to a long weekend, most cabins and motels were fully booked. We had the further constraint of traveling with two small children, so were in need of a safe space for them and comfortable amount of room to suit 4 people.

We continued our search and finally came across a hotel located 20 minutes from Cavendish, where the rest of our family was staying. We immediately called the accommodation, and were put on the phone with the manager of the facility, who told us it was a family friendly accommodation and there would be plenty of room for everyone. Because of the lack of vacancy anywhere else we booked the room.

While the price is comparable to that of a higher end hotel, for a hostel it seemed quite pricey - $68/per person a night for a basic room with 2 bunk beds, a double bed, a small fan, no air conditioning and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities that were certainly dated.

When we arrived, our experience was telling. What started out as one of the best family trips we've had yet turned into a nightmare! Upon entering our room we found the same garbage bag from the previous accommodation booking, with a brown substance and dirty Q—tip, and the floors were carpeted and stained with something that looked to have been vomit.

The beds were foam mattresses covered in plastic, making it impossible to sleep at night due to the extreme temperatures in the room and lack of temperature control. If that isn’t bad enough, you would almost wish you were sleeping on a blanket on the floor, 10 minutes into laying on your foam plastic covered mattress you were basically touching the wood on the bunk.

First night was hell sleeping due to the high temperatures and the plastic. The rooms have ZERO sound barrier, be prepared to hear everything happening in the hostel, which was surprising considering they advised the accommodations were family friendly. We were further surprised by their practice of leaving the main door wide open at night, considering they also advised it was a safe location for children’s accommodation. They had nobody watching the front desk, but lucky for us they provide us with a phone number if there is any issues…

Second night wasn't much better. Saturday night and people were getting wasted all over the hostel. The washrooms were disgusting and not fit for use and a large group of people were getting drunk in the common area at 2am, keeping the kids up all night.

Third night takes the cake. Our last night on the island we decided to come back early, get the kids to bed and pack to leave in the morning. When everything was done we went outside for our nightly smoke of medicinal cannabis; my pain management, legal in Canada nevertheless.

At approximately 10:30pm, as we lit our smoke, a man was standing behind us and approached us and said that the smoke was bothering his children who were sleeping on the upper level, could we move. He was a bit crass and certainly lacked manners. Despite having been outside and sitting a little distance from the building, we nodded and moved behind some tall shrubs away from the hostel.

We could hear the same man screaming from the balcony at us saying "DID YOU NOT HEAR ME, I SAID MOVE". In shock, and realizing this man was being serious, my friend had told him that we did move. He started yelling again, and at that time I bit back and said we couldn't hear him while he was yelling at us.

A moment later he threw a full tall can of beer at our heads. I can only imagine that had it hit us from the top of the balcony it would have caused serious injuries. My friend and I were so frightened by his aggression we started to cry. I ran inside immediately to phone the police.

The woman who claims she's the manager was very hesitant to give me the phone to call the police, she repeatedly denied by request to call until I relentlessly demanded it. Finally she handed me the phone and asked what the issue was. I told informed her about the man and she ran upstairs to talk to him. I ran outside to phone the police.

Moments later, as I'm on the phone with dispatch, the manager comes running out screaming at me to hand her the phone. She tries to grab it from my hand as my friend tries to shield me from her grabbing. The woman on dispatch instructed me to ignore her screaming and walk away from her.

As my friend is sobbing, the manager is yelling at her saying it's our fault he threw the beer, that we shouldn't have been smoking cannabis and that we interrupted his family BBQ. I couldn't believe my ears. Her tone turned assertive ands she demanded my friend not to leave her a bad review on Booking.com. She very assertively gave us two choices, to leave or sleep in our vehicle. My friend pleaded with her that we have two small children with us. She said we could stay if we stayed in our rooms. All of this happening while I am on the phone with the police.

As I continued on the phone with the police, the man who threw the beer can from the balcony ran out to pick up the can he threw earlier. He began to circle my friend and I trying to intimidate us. Well it worked.

I told my friend to go with her children and I would sit at the picnic table and wait for the police. While sitting a the table with another couple, the manager proceeds to scream at me as I walk past, following me all the way down to the corner of the lawn to a picnic table, where she continues to harass me. She berated me with names, “bitch” and “dumb blonde”, telling me that I put a dent in her 13 hour work day. She asked why I was crying and advised that “I need to grow a backbone and stop telling the couple my sob story”. I asked her to stop talking to me multiple times, but she continued to taunt me.

The police finally showed up after what seemed like forever dealing with the cruel punishment from the manger. I had told him everything and I was advised there was nothing they could do because the beer didn't physically hit either of us. The manager tried to approach us as I was speaking with the officer and he was very stern with her and told her to back away.

What we thought was going to be a vacation of a lifetime turned into an absolute nightmare. My friend and I were so scared we laid in the same bed all night and stayed awake – knowing the location was not properly secure.

Below are some photos of the establishment. You will see they have a problem with not only management, but rodents and general cleanliness. Yes that is a dirty woman’s sanitary napkin in our room - one of the children found it.

When we phoned the hostel after our stay, the manager denied any can being thrown and said we were intoxicated and made it up. We hadn't been drinking and shared a puff each of cannabis. Not enough to be under the influence.

This is an acceptable hostel, but nothing more.
Pros:
- good location: near the beaches, bike rentals, good food nearby
- lots of parking

Cons:
- NO security: the front door is always unlocked, and there are no keys for the dorm-style rooms. They're not even apologetic about this. Luckily I had a car so kept everything locked in my car.
- It's not dirty exactly, but it's not exactly sparkling-clean.
- The "breakfast" provided is toast and oatmeal. I highly recommend going to PEI Preserve Co. for breakfast instead.

This was fine for what I needed, but not great. I'd HIGHLY recommend the HI Charlottetown Backpacker's Hostel instead of this.

We biked over from Pictou NS and were looking for an affordable place to stay overnight on the island. We booked one night on the dorms and were very impressed by the experience. This was my first hostel experience and it exceeded my expectations. The room, showers and bathrooms are every clean. Vanessa and Kegen who work the front desk both have great customer service skills and even made room for us to store our bikes in their shed. Breakfasts is included but it is only toast so be prepared for that and bring some eggs with that you. There is a full service kitchen and BBQ which makes life easy.
