There was apparently a change made to my reservation two days before our arrival, not initiated by me. I was told there were no rooms with two double beds available upon arrival, which was what my reservation was for. I was offered to upgrade to an efficiency suite for an additional charge, which I refused. I was then told that we would be put in a room and have the quoted rate. Upon entering the room, it was a room with two double beds, as originally requested, that I was told was not available upon arrival. So, if I had agreed to the more expensive upgrade to the "available" efficiency suite, our stay would have cost us more, for no reason. Disappointing.

Value was there but room was dirty-actually not cleaned 2 days out of the 8.ist time i have ever heard that "the hosusekeeper phoned in sick and we had no one to clean your room"?
Parking lot was dangerous and no sand was applied to the upper area until our 8th day. Very slippery.Would not stay at this hotel in future.

Appalling customer service, smelly, dim rooms, unprofessional staff & appearance of lobby & dining area. Free breakfast must have been a joke. Wifi was ridiculously slow, my television reception & channel selection was terrible in my room as well as the rooms of our friends. The bathroom was quite possibly the worst hotel bathroom I have ever seen. It took me 4 separate attempts & a manager to get a reservation & confirmation #. I would NEVER stay here again or recommend your hotel to anyone. The piles of scathing online reviews are, in a word, apt.

This is the worst place to stay in Halifax, I had rented the extended stay from October 2019, You never knew if you were going to have running water, if you had water you didn't have hot water. The excuses from the boiler, to leaks in room with the old pipes, in my whole time there, I honestly can't say that their was a week with full water, the water pressure was terrible when taking a shower, my curtain in the kitchen didn't close so needed to hold it together with a hair clip. it advised included AC, AC are to be in an available for use by the long weekend, nope never went in till June and we had already surpassed the most humid days, more excuses. I will say that the staff was friendly, however the owner is a real piece of cake and I am not sure why he has a GM onsite if he does not allow her to think and handle situations as they arise. Their word means nothing. The rooms are a disgrace , the property needs much work done to it. the Cleaning staff comes in and does a spit shine, when changing the beds, she throws the clean items on the floor, comforters are never washed. the room stank of smoke all the time even though you are not to smoke in the rooms, however I guess if you are staff and live onsite you can do anything you wish. I would not like to see anyone stay at this motel is what is should be called, in NO way is this anything fancy as an inn or suites. The owner needs to wake up and put some money into this building, instead of renting out his extended rooms for 1400.00 every 30 days and you get nothing for it, the last time the house keeper came in to clean was in December. The lock on the door freezes or something, you come home from a night out and your locked out of your room, need to call the night manager and hopefully they are on site or hear the phone. Just keep your money and peace of mind, spend more and stay somewhere nicer, the internet was so bad as well. Will never stay nor recommend this place to anyone

The room was terribly noisy. You could fit your arm in the room where the air conditioner was mounted in the window. I moved the dresser to put my computer on it and 6 pills in a baggie fell out from behind the dresser. 2 people were stabbed less than a block from the hotel the last night of our stay, we would have change hotels but the city was booked solid.

I traveled to Halifax, Sept.3 for a doctors appt the morning of Sept. 4. My accommodations were booked through an attorneys office. Besides having an air conditioner which couldn't air condition because it was behind a curtain which meant stay cool and have no privacy from foot traffic walking by or have privacy but sweat to death. The room was musty and dank. The tub had mildew on just about every grout line. The tile floor in bathroom was grout free on some tiles...nice way to stub a toe. The caulking around the sink was peeled open, there was a sign saying 'the mature plumbing hadn't gotten wiser with age' so no flushing things other than toilet paper, the front door literally had its key card mount moved down 2inches and the backside of this...in the room...had paper taper painted to cover the hole. It could have easily been punctures and the lock opened. Absolutely one of the surveyiest places I've ever seen. The tub and sink had no plugs, and the tub drain had hair in it. I mean come on!!! I will give it 1 star because it didn't require me sleeping in my car but in all honesty I'm still debating if that would have been a better option. I wish I could post pictures. If I figure it out I will do so.

To begin with, I booked online and requested an accessible room and was given a room up two flights of stairs. If stank is a word then that is what hit us when we opened the door.....Room 38...cheap, gross, dirty stank!! Carpets stained badly and full of mildew. What should have been a rusty/orange coloured pull out sofa had ripped threadbare upholstery that was a thick grimy greyish, certainly not anything you would want to sit on for fear of it touching your skin. I'm not being stuck up, this place was smelly and grungy. Of course I had to pull back the covers on the bed for fear of crawlers but was quickly able to see leftover pubic hairs from the previous nights guests......thanks but no thanks, we'll just keep on to somewhere that isn't disgusting. These old rooms should be condemned or at least renovated, remodelled or burned. The front desk clerk did offer us another room but it's hard to get the impression that another room would be any better. Don't stay here.

Response from HOJOBluenose, Manager at Bluenose Inn & Suites
Responded Jun 9, 2015
Thank you for your recent stay with us and for sharing your feedback. We are sincerely sorry that we were not able to meet your requests. Since our room inventory is very limited, all the efficiency suites require stairs. It’s unfortunate that this information wasn’t clearly provided at the time of your booking, so we could make the appropriate reservations. We do apologize about the unpleasant stay in your room and wish that we could have made your stay more comfortable. Be assured that your review will be passed along and proper actions taken.

The good news: The advertised suite had 2 queen beds; the bad news: one of the beds had been slept in and neither of us was guilty! I should have had my doubts when we walked into the room and were greeted by a stove from the 50's with coils and some conference chairs around a sad little Formica table with a bedraggled futon bed salvaged from some university student's furniture after the semester ended. Whoa.... The drapes were hanging off the hooks and some previous occupant had resorted to pins to get them to close. Hubby spent time using his multi-tool to fix them. I was ready to call the front desk at that point to get another room but we had already dragged our bags up AND down multiple stairways ----surprise this Howard Johnson must have been built before elevators! Finding that one of the beds had obviously been slept in was the last straw for hubby. Avoid this HoJo or be prepared.

I booked this hotel for more than two times. The first time i stayed for 7 days, there was no internet, it comes and goes, was too slow. i had to go to TimHortons to get free wifi. The room was not clean, smell so so bad, found spiders and ants, no proper/standard illumination. They said their break fast is free and included in the hotel price, however I had to pay for my breakfast during my stay on my second trip. The worst thing I have ever got there was when I wanted to take shower, the floor was so dirty, smell bad, and there was no water at all for two days. I called the guest service desk two or three times to fix those problem. The answer I got was, Sorry for today we will fix everything next time. When I booked for the second time, excactly the same problem happened and I let the manager know, Their service is so bad at all.
