After an exhausting trip across all of Alberta and bc all the way to the island we stumbled across the falcons nest in Duncan bc . They happily accomodated our family of 6 , two adults and 4 kids ages 5 and under. The hotel is older. But the family suite is huge kitchen, bathtub and showers, outside entrances, place was clean, new managers were super friendly, and even gave us 70$ off our room maybe was the exhausted look on my face or they are just nice. Either way place is legit and not a crack motel. Super happy, they even on no notice hook my dad up with a cheap deal on a single so he could come visit his grandmonsters. I would totally recomend the falcons nest. I would not recomend travelling with 4 kids 5 years and under, haha. But this place is the best stop we have had

I recently had to find a hotel for a friend who we had to put up until he got a bed up in Nanaimo. He ended up with 3 ambulance calls in a row at the motel, only to get discharged until the last call where they found an abscess on his brain. Doug was extremely empathetic and kind, instead of kicking him out because brain patients wander, etc. He was worried more about my friend (who ended up having emergency brain surgery last Friday) than his hotel or business. He said to me when I thanked him that he was a humanitarian. It’s clean and simple, but sweet and has a lovely pool. I can’t thank Doug and his family enough because they had to help my friend quite a bit as I found out. Above and beyond. I highly recommend this hotel if you just want a simple clean and well priced place

If this is your only hotel option, change your travel date or cancel your trip.

We made a last minute choice to take a trip to Vancouver Island, not realizing at first that it was a holiday weekend. This was our only option left in Duncan proper, so we booked it.

This was a mistake.

The woman who greeted us at the front desk was very nice. That is the only positive I can name about this motel. The stairs to the second floor were in disrepair and close to unsafe. The wood on the second floor walkway had spots of serious rot that were unsafe.

The room itself…wow. Not clean (floor hadn’t been swept). Missing lightbulbs. Some kind of self-adhesive vinyl flooring had been DIY installed, leaving massive gaps and holes. The bathroom was barely functional and extremely worn.

In retrospect we should have had the common sense of another reviewer and asked to see the room before registering and paying. We didn’t. Do not spend money to stay here.

We recently stayed for 1 night while in town for my son' s baseball game. 3 families stayed here.

The staff is super helpful and friendly & the rooms are clean.

The hotel is old, run down and some of the outside areas are dirty with soiled towels and lots of cigarette butts. The clientele is also somewhat sketchy as it is a low budget hotel.

There is a drug house to the rear of the hotel and my kids witnessed a person puking out the window. They also witnessed two drug deals in the Mc Donald's parking lot next door.

I would not recommend this hotel or location for families as the previous reviews are somewhat misleading.

I had to stay over in Duncan, BC, for 5 nights at end of July (2012) because of a medical issue that kept me from driving temporarily, and checked into this motel. The good news was the affordable rate of $55. a night plus tax and the good WiFi reception in my room (#26). But that's about all the praise I can express for this motel.

The swimming pool has been closed now for 3 yeasr I was told by the couple who manage the place for this and the owners of the other least expensive motel in town just down the highway.

The stained, dirty carpet, broken toilet seat, tumbling window screen, and mal functioning lights in my room made me wonder how the motel can still hang out the official BC Approved Accommodation sign until the couple managing the place told me laughingly that the person who verifies for this Approval only stipulated one thing: they had to have the right number of coat hangers to be allowed to display the Approval sign!

My room was never cleaned for the entire time I stayed at the motel. I had to ask to even have my garbage can emptied. (No recycling bins in sight either.) The manager said he could do little about the window screen falling out because he could not get a certain part for it. He came around a day later and taped it after I suggested he might try to do that, concerned as I was about security. (The motel has a sign stating they are not responsible for any theft or loss of personal belongings.)

The couple who managed the Falcons Nest had to be contacted in person repeatedly for the most basic services. A broken toilet seat was replaced but equally difficult to use because it was never correctly installed. Management never followed up. No one picked up when I called the front desk so I had to see the couple in person for even a change of towels. After my 3rd visit to the office I was told that no one "complained" like me and what did I expect paying so little to stay at a motel.... (I tried to make the couple feel better by letting them know I was not blaming them personally and that they should not feel guilty or embarrassed, but then reflected how unsuitable they seemed for this type of work and how unprofessionally they responded. On the other hand, the couple seemed to mean well, even advising me on what I could do to treat the sciatica issue that immobilized me.)

The location is convenient in that there are several fast food places within a short walk of the place as well as the magnificent Cowichan Aquatic Centre. Although right on the Trans Canada Highway, I heard little traffic noise.

I liked that I could make free local phone calls from my room.

I would only recommend this place for someone unable to spend more on a motel room. It's clearly neglected and in great need of a make-over!

I made reservations here on a recent trip but ended up having car trouble and not making it. When I notified them they were very good about everything. They were a pleasure to deal with and I will be stopping by hopefully very soon. When we passed by the next day it seemed to be very central to shopping ect. It seemed to be older but clean from the outside. I would look into staying there again if I'm in Duncan.

You get what you pay for, nothing fancy. Room was relatively clean. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and excellent WiFi. Very central location. Had a deluxe room with a kitchen, not very well equipped if planning to cook.
