The Westin St. John Resort Villas is often admired for its well-maintained and beautiful grounds, as well as its well-appointed amenities, though service improvements have been suggested. While the resort's atmosphere can be lively with music around the pool, this sometimes detracts from the serenity. The location presents a mix of views, appreciated for its proximity to hiking yet sometimes criticized for convenience. Room opinions vary, with some guests enjoying the spaciousness and others finding issues with upkeep. Travelers consistently note the high cost, especially for dining and services, impacting the overall value.

Pool area loud with obnoxious shouting of bingo, music requests and other nonsense. Music way to loud. We had to go to the beach for quiet reading and relaxation- but, alas, no beach service. Super stingy on towels- you can only bring them from your room and trade them in- no extras even with rom keys.

Our AC was broken the first night leaving our room at 64 degrees all night! When we complained, they asked why we did t call in the middles of the night. When we asked for complimentary drinks as a little apology, no one returned the call on the request.

Pretty beach area and lovely setting!

The resort was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful and accommodating. They resort is townhouse condo style and the rooms were equipped with everything you would need, coffee maker, pots, pans, dish soap, dishwasher, washer dryer and cleaning products for them. Pool is excellent and beach is good but not white sand. They also provided beach towels for use on every adventure. Restaurant food was good and the Rum Punch was the best! The only downside was due to the size of the property the signage could be better especially at night. The lighting isn't very good to see the directional signs but they had free golf cart shuttles to take you anywhere you wanted to go on property along with a taxi stand to take you anywhere on the island for a minimal cash price ( $10/pp for shopping, $8pp for beaches etc) Oh and most is cashless transactions so be prepared to have it all charged to your room.

My daughter and I have stayed at the Westin over holiday weekends this past summer and into fall so I wanted to extend my sincere appreciation to the extraordinary staff here and comment on the gorgeous property and delicious food. The staff makes memorable experiences possible, not just one day but all the time, every day, in each moment, consistently.
So friendly so kind so generous and genuine. It makes all the difference.

My favorite part of staying here is that we feel at home not just as another guest, as they say in Cabaret, "Je suis enchanté...Happy to see you ...Willkomen BIenvenue Welcome."

The staff at the front desk, pool and recreation, restaurant, transportation, engineers, and the concierge bring this fantastic property to life in such a magical way. They have a joy and a sense of fun which is truly contagious. We always feel taken care of with their personal attention. My daughter calls this resort "Fantasy Island."

The sanitation and cleanliness made us feel quite relaxed. From the hand sanitizes around the grounds, the hospital-grade disinfectants, masks available and and fastidious attention to rigorous standards of cleanliness (remote controls in the rooms sealed off to indicate they have been sanitized, disinfectant wipes, to go bags for take out) are remarkable and Westin has swiftly responded to the current climate with thoughtfulness, thoroughness, professionalism and responsibility.

This property and the lovely team will not meet or exceed your expectations. Guaranteed. Magnetic team and stunning grounds, out of this world pool, tennis, health club, and beach front to boot make for an experience not to miss. If you seek an action packed adventure, relaxation, a romantic getaway, or simply want to reconnect with family, this place has it you covered.

We spent the week of Christmas at the Westin St John resort this year. We love St John and enjoyed our vacation but would not recommend the Westin St John because of its very poor customer service.

I am a very loyal Westin customer and choose their properties for both business and personal travel. I am a Bonvoy Platinum Elite member and like the Westin brand in most locations.

This property is a time share location and if you’re not a member, you get subpar service. The hotel cancelled all housekeeping services while we were here “due to COVID” but didn’t inform us of that policy until a week before our arrival date and well after the cancellation period. They didn’t make any rate adjustments and likely created the policy to cut expenses, not out of concern for their employees.

In contrast, the Ritz Carlton St Thomas residences where we are staying the second week of our vacation has not cancelled housekeeping services.

A dat before departure,I requested a two hour late check out which I am guaranteed as a Platinum Elite member. I was told yes by one staff member, and then told no several an hour later. The front desk staff member suggested I was lying about the conversation I had one hour earlier @ the front desk in person, confirming a noon checkout.

I was this called back on my cell phone several
hours later, by someone who said she was the Front Desk manager, offering me an 11:00 check out, which I accepted. This morning, I went back to the room after exercising at 9:58 and they had shut off our keys to the room, and proceeded to call multiple times to nag us about leaving early.

As an aside, checkout at this property is 10:00 AM but the ferry service at the hotel has no ferry departing until 11:30 - poor scheduling as everyone has to gather outside waiting and makes social distancing challenging.

I complained to the concierge about this entire situation and received no call from the general manager and no follow up to discuss my complaints. They did try to get me to sit through one of their timeshare sales presentations, which I found very ironic given the terrible customer service experience.

I would highly recommend a different property like the Ritz Carlton if you want an excellent customer experience and value for the price. The two hotels charge the same rate for these two weeks and the value at the Westin is far lower.

We spent 7 days here with our 1 year old and six year old. We stayed in a two bedroom with pool views and I have to say this would be the only way to do it for us. The room was perfect, the washer and dryer were so needed, and after the kids went to sleep we enjoyed the balcony. Westin was so accommodating, we got a roll away crib to use and the towels and items in the room were plenty. The pool bar and restaurant snorkels had good hours but we quickly got tired of the food. We visited the market (walkable) to get breakfast and lunch items and snacks. You can rent a car but we took a taxi on the few days we visited other beaches or restaurants for dinner ($5 per person per way). Unless you plan on leaving every day, this seemed to be more economical (taxi). The beach at Westin has so much to offer though, and free paddle boards and kayaks. Everything was very COVID mindful and all staff wore masks and were strict about guests when at the bar. Overall it was lovely and perfect for kids. If we were with a group of adults we would consider renting a villa instead of a resort, but the convenience with kids is hard to pass up (and it was just the four of us). Would return!

As I write this I am still shaking from a recent interaction with the Westin security staff member.

An unprofessional and belligerent member of security created an Emirates our amount of stress and anxiety for our family over an issue that never should have escalated.

After confirming a 12pm late checkout with reception earlier in the morning members of staff knocked on our door several times to clean the room. At each interaction we told them that the front desk had okayed their 12pm checkout. My husband had a conference call going on in the room, the reason we requested the late checkout, and the security member continued to bang on the door, refused to shut the door and screamed at us to get out of the room.

We’ve been coming to this island for 13 years straight, 4th stay at the Westin, and I’ve never been treated so poorly. The front desk forgot to update our late checkout - an oversight that happens, but shouldn’t result in guests feeling threatened and treated like liars. So unnecessary and the reason why I’m writing this review is hoping they work on proper training.

Mamaanna, thank you for this valuable feedback. We welcome both constructive and positive feedback. As we are looking into customer service training for our associates, it is important you know that we always have open ears to anything that we can improve upon. Our General Manager says it best, "The good, the bad, the happy and the sad!" We know there are opportunities as we strive to bring the property to be even better than pre-hurricane conditions.

We just returned from an 8 night stay. The Westin ferry, while pricey, made the check in process simple, as you check in at the airport and are taken immediately to your villa upon arrival at the resort.
The first 5 nights were spent in a luxury 2 bedroom poolview villa in building 11 (1 bedroom w/ a king bed and the second bedroom w/ two doubles). This unit also had 2 bathrooms, washer/dryer, balcony facing the pool/beach, and a full kitchen. There were gas grills at each building (with grilling utensils in the unit).
The last three nights were in a lofted 2 bedroom villa that offered a view of the ocean from the balcony.
Due to COVID there wasn't daily housekeeping, but that wasn't an issue at all.
Snorkels grill located poolside was open daily for lunch till 6 pm, and on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner into the evening.
Golf carts run the property constantly, and there is a shuttle phone on the ground level to call for a ride.
There are floats, kayaks, paddle boards, and hobie cats (sailing experience required) offered free of charge for use in the ocean.
For a quick snack or grocery items (salads, breakfast sandwiches @ $10, bagels, etc) you can walk up to the Mango deli located on site. The offsite market is less expensive (take a shuttle to the entrance and then walk to the left about a block). Alcohol is cheap and grocery items are about double of what I'd normally pay.
This resort is absolutely beautiful. Go now... you will not regret it.

We spent over $5,000 on a week stay and I wished we had picked another location. The island and grounds of the hotel are beautiful but I would not recommend traveling here during COVID. They do not clean the rooms, do not have maid service, and and we had to call over and over daily just to get towels and soap. Don’t get a ground floor room because there will be people above you and you won’t sleep due to the noise. Even ever after calling security nightly because the people above us would arrive home about 2 am and then party until 4:30 am or worse they would not move us and continued to tell us they were full. I didn’t sleep the entire trip due to the noise and their own staff even told us never to get a ground floor room. We booked this hotel because it advertises as handy cap accessible and you are supposed to be able to get golf carts all over the property but it was very difficult and there were long waits or they just didn’t come at all when we called. We almost missed the ferry for our flight due to the wait. There is no room service for meal options and the restaurants were mediocre. I am such a fan of Westins and have been a loyal Marriott-Bonvoy customer with platinum status and wished we had gone to a different location for our honeymoon. It was very disappointing and difficult for a handicapped person to get around the grounds of the hotel due to the golf carts not coming when called. The staff we did encounter were kind but just kept telling us because we booked online through bonvoy there was nothing they could do about moving rooms so we did not sleep the entire trip. I would not recommend this for couples just for families that can afford the larger upstairs rooms to avoid the noise.

This was our second trip to the beautiful Westin St. John. Just as was the case last time, we had a wonderful stay. I would say that our stay this time was even better. Some of our general thoughts:

The resort is beautiful. They continue to maintain it so well, and we loved all of the lush gardens and grounds throughout. Like staying in paradise.

Everyone is SO FRIENDLY. Last time we were here, it was more hit or miss, but literally I cannot think of a single associate we came in contact with who didn't smile or say hello. It seems as if they're really making this a focus, and it shows!

Even though we had a room in building 34 (the farthest of the far from the main resort) it was still no problem to catch a golf-cart shuttle anytime. We never waited more than 2-3 minutes for a friendly driver to pull up and give us a ride. While I was initially disappointed in how far away we were, it really didn't matter with all of the great transportation services available.

The beach was well tended and we never had to fight for a chair, umbrella, or anything else. Even though the resort was busy, it never felt that way, and there were plenty of amenities for all.

They have scaled back housekeeping service due to COVID, so there is no daily service. By the end of the week, we were ready for some new linen, but they always said it would be available if we asked, so no biggie. I certainly understand the restriction, which is in line what pretty much all hotels in the industry are doing right now.

As has been mentioned many times, it is unfortunately that still the only food and beverage offering is Snorkels. While we found the food tasty and the service friendly, you can only eat there so many times in a week. For a resort of this size, it would REALLY be nice if they would open a second option as I understand they used to have prior to the hurricane that devastated the island. I really hope at some point they open a second offering.

Finally, not a criticism but more an observation. At the top of the hill where the taxis pick you up there is a pergola and nice chairs, but absolutely no shade or shelter from the hot sun or occasional rain shower. It seems like it wouldn't be too costly to construct a covered breezeway up there that would at least allow guests to escape the sun or rain when waiting for a taxi.

All in all, a tremendous stay. Kudos to the entire staff. We cannot wait to return!!!

The staff was friendly, the grounds were clean and beautiful. So helpful having a small market/deli and Cruz Bay water sports on site. The rooms were quiet- you didn’t hear your neighbors. Great balcony view. Open air taxis were always ready and waiting to take you wherever you asked for $5/person/ride. The showers/bathrooms in the room could have been cleaner, and the water barely got warm. Little things, nothing major. I’d stay there again.

The Virgin Grand are 3 bedroom condos with a private pool. There are 5 different condominium complexes at the Westin. There is a large public pool and hot tub near the bar, restaurant and beach. The elevated complexes also offer a pool for the guests. There are occasional golf cart rides driven by the staff. Please tip these people. You can look at a Westin map and see the locations of the different complexes. There are two complexes that are elevated above the rest of the resort. Great resort, suggest renting a car, OConnor right at the property with reasonable rates. Note well: driving is on the left with narrow roads with posted speed of 20mph. Have fun.
