Simpson Bay Resort, Marina & Spa is frequently commended for its exemplary cleanliness and array of amenities, including pools and on-site dining, although guests have pointed out some shortcomings in shuttle service and additional costs. While service quality appears to fluctuate, the spacious and well-kept rooms are a consistent highlight. Despite critiques on value and dated aspects of the decor, the resort's prime location near beaches and local attractions often receives high marks from visitors, as does the vibrant atmosphere of the Piano Bar.

We really like the location of this resort. We like to walk to restaurants and there are many within walking distance. The resort was very serious about mask use and sanitizing hands at any indoor area, restaurant, lobby etc. our room was cleaned one during the stay and all employees had masks on all of the time in spite of the heat.
Our room was really nice, well decorated and comfortable.
The only negatives would be the lack of helpfulness from desk employees—but not all and the noise.
We asked to get a higher room after the second night of being awakened by the people above us who seemed to want to move the furniture about at 3 am—and consistently did this every night of our stay—but were told there were no higher rooms with no one above us. As a result we have ahead a pretty miserable nights sleep here all week and are kind of looking forward to getting home so we can sleep!
The resort itself is nice and in a great location.

Spend New Year’s Eve at this lovely ocean front villa with spectacular views and excellent location.
The updated bathroom and rooms were much appreciated as well as the well stocked kitchen I totally enjoyed the ocean front patio with its amazing views of the marina and the peaceful ocean front.
Loved the pool service and El patron restaurant with it’s awesome service and meals.

We had a great week but I want to start with the important info for Canadians who need Covid tests. The Covid Test on-site are only antigen. We did not realize this and had a stressful night trying to organize a test last minute for our family. If you need a PCR test - we recommend Medworks which is within walking distance or the shuttle will take you. However try to prebook an appointment, if you just show up they will take appointments before you and you can wait until they have a break. They also take credit card. People were lined up when we arrived 20 mins before they even open. You can book online.

Simpson Bay Clinic is also in walking distance but only takes cash and you have to get the sample to the lab yourself which isn’t ideal if you don’t have a car.

The property itself is huge and well kept. The room had some wear but overall it was well equipped and perfect for our family of 4. The kids loved the Murphy beds and we appreciated they each had their own.

We traded through Interval and were pleasantly surprised to get an ocean view room in the Marina building. We loved watching the yachts and sailboats. The only downside of this room is that Roxxy nightclub is across the bay and there was very loud thumping music on two nights of our stay.

The hotel has a small grocery store which has prices on par with the larger grocery store at the end of the road. If you have a car it’s best to find a store away from the tourist area. Wine and beer were cheaper in this store than duty free.

The resort shuttle is great and will take you offsite as long as the traffic isn’t backed up. We used Stephen Harry for airport transfers and he was reliable and waited for us even after a long customs back up.

If you do rent a car from the on-site rental make sure they will have it there for you in the morning. We lost an hour of day having to drive to the airport to get our rental. Not the hotels fault but a heads up.

One disappointment for us was that things like tennis racquets and snorkel gear cost money to rent. They had three courts that we didn’t see used once but it was going to cost us $26usd to rent racquets for one day and buy balls. Next time we will bring our own gear.

Overall it was a great location especially if you are a fan of big boats. The beaches on site are gorgeous and never a problem getting a chair or a cold drink. Can’t wait to go back.

So we made the mistake of staying here and it is non refundable. As nice as the staff is and how nice everything looks that is it. By far the loudest hotel I have ever stayed in. We even changed rooms so we are not beside the room with young children that funnelled the sound through the door attaching the two rooms. Every chair movement within a 3 room radius above or below sounds like it is 4 inches away. The cleaning staff has carts with wheels that echo through the resort like a thunder. Ever heard or rubber wheels? And my favorite is how much the cleaning staff yells talking to each other 4 rooms away. Additionally and this is minor but just a cherry on top. They have a nice coffee maker with no coffee but they added a small card to tell you where you can purchase a fresh cup off coffee. That was really helpful this morning. It only allows you to upload a photo not a sound file wish I could the DB level app I downloaded measured it at 86 which is insane

We just returned from a 7 day stay from the SBR and have nothing but great things to say about this resort.

The room we chose was the two person room specifically room B209 and it was very well appointed. Room was very clean, bed was comfortable and our sitting area outside our door was private for having your coffee and breakfast in the morning.

There was a fully functional kitchen complete with all things you need to enjoy your stay.

The bathroom is a good size with a walk in shower.

The property has several pools throughout and BBQ's for your use and are cleaned spotless by the staff daily. There is a small four seat table near the BBQ to enjoy your meal.

The beach was very nice and there is a beach bar with happy hour 3pm to 5pm. There is a towel exchange and washrooms at the beach as well that are cleaned regularly.

This was the first non all inclusive we've stayed at and found it a pleasant change from being on a schedule for eating throughout the day.

There are several restaurants throughout the resort as well as a full casino and a small well equipped convenience store the Peli-Deli.

Throughout the day the staff work maintaining the rooms, pools and grounds, everything is very clean.

There is a very good grocery store not far from the resort and is in the same parking lot as the Burger King.

Off the resort there are many places to eat, we ate at Toppers Rhum one night and at Pineapple Pete's another night...both were very good.

The resort has a shuttle and will run you to various locations/restaurants and come back to get you including the grocery store.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking to return in late November for 10 days.

My extended family stayed at Simpson Bay to celebrate a graduation. Overall the hotel is nice, the food mediocre, the proximity to restaurants and activities- very good, and the views are spectacular.

We had two rooms at the top of the hill. The hill is steep to walk and away from the beach front (there is a very nice pool up there though). I do not recommend rooms at the top of the hill for people who have trouble walking. However, the hotel shuttle is reliable. You can call for pick up/ drop off.

The rooms are pretty. We had two deluxe singles. I’m glad we did because there’s only one bathroom. My husband and I shared one, our sons the other. Two rooms gave us the privacy we wanted. Rooms had a full kitchen including a dishwasher and blender (nice for smoothies). The rooms were large enough with enough chairs for a family gathering of nine.

Two advantages of hilltop room: it seems our internet reception was better on 4th floor (versus 2nd where our sons were) and the view was spirit renewing (that is a full rainbow in the picture).

Food at the restaurants, of which there are several, was ‘meh’. Go off site for food, a lot is in walking distance.

Also, we were able to COVID test on site (for travel), as well as rent cars. The front desk staff was overwhelmed yet polite and helpful as possible.

The island is beautiful. We had a great time.

I am here now with friends. We LOVE our room. We stayed in one of the villa rooms. We got a two bedroom, which is actually a one bedroom and a suite with a connecting door. Everything in the room seemed new and lovely. The kitchen has all you can ask for. The rooms are spacious and the balcony overlooking the pool is nice.

Today we are spending time at the beach and were a bit taken a back by the service. The guy who got the chairs seemed downright annoyed that we asked for chairs. He took forever to even get started and then slapped them down and left us to get them organized around the table. The lady who took our food orders was fine, not friendly but fine. When she came to get the payment I asked her to take the boxes with the finished food (as waitresses do). She said and I quote "I'm not going that way...You can go take it over there and throw it away yourself".

The resort is nice, but the interaction with the beach staff is not what you expect at a vacation resort... Or really anywhere that you pay for service.

We stayed at this resort in a studio through our timeshare. The resort is located in a great location right in Simpson Bay. It is close to many restaurants and shops within walking distance. It is one of the largest resorts we ever stayed at in Sint. Maarten.
The resort has many pools a few of them were really big. We prefer the beaches and the beach was within a 3 minute walk from our room. Beach chairs and umbrellas are free, but give the guys a tip, for they are always there to assist in any way. Sint. Maarten can be a very windy place, and this beach is well sheltered from the wind.
If you are located up the hill from the main lobby, it is a good walk uphill. Luckily we had rented a car and parking was free everywhere in the resort.
Check in went smoothly with great help from Jerome. He had answers to all our questions.
Room was more than adequate with a fully upgraded kitchen with dishwasher. A/C was excellent and very quiet. Wifi coverage was brutal. It was hit and miss if you got any coverage at all. They offered high speed coverage at the front desk for a fee, in my opinion totally unacceptable. For the cost at staying at this resort, there should not be an extra charge for a good wifi signal.
You have a great view of all the planes taking off and landing at the airport. They have a coded safe in every room, which was helpful.
They have a piano bar located on the resort, which I recommend everyone stop and have a listen to, the entertainment was awesome. They also have a beach bar nearby called Buccaneers. They have happy hours every day with all you can eat chicken\ribs on Monday and Tuesday evenings. They have great bands playing the evenings on the weekends as well, well worth dropping by for.
Overall, the convenience of being close to restaurants and beaches makes this resort a great place to stay at. You probably do not want to spend the entire week at this resort, which makes a car rental to explore the whole island is well worth the investment.

This resort has so much potential, but need much improvement. When inquiring about upgrade, front desk couldn't assist with this request, had to call management. After a long wait for the manager, upgrade was granted with a charge that was much higher than the difference if booked rooms separately. Unfriendly and unprofessional resort staff: asking for a bar of soap was met with inquisition, housekeeping staff would enter the room without knocking or permission to enter the room, inquiring about getting the beach chair was met with annoynance and reluctance. The dresser in the room had such rancid and musty odor that made me nauseous.

We really enjoyed most everything about this resort except for the steep hill to get to our room. We requested a room closer to the ocean and were told there was nothing available. They did have a shuttle which you could call for pick up and drop off which was nice. Staff was very friendly and they did an excellent job of cleaning and sanitizing. Everywhere you went they made sure there was hand sanitizer & thermometer’s for taking your temp. Nice beach, nice room & overall good experience. Just didn’t like that big hill.

The Villa’s are the newest addition to the resort. I personally have not been in the rooms there but it’s all on preference. The resort side is the older part of the resort the rooms are very nice and updated. I’ve found most members I know are from the resort side and a few folks we have met that was staying in the Villa’s preferred to come hang out at the pool and beach side staying the folks are nicer… meaning other visitors from the Villa’s. Again it’s personal preference.

The Villas are ocean front and the elevators are in the Villas. The other buildings have elevators but I never used as I prefer stairs. Parking is free and you would be there after slow season so everything should be open. Air conditioners work great. I have stayed in the Villas and two other B buildings and never had any issues. I think the Villas is five floors and the B buildings are three and four stories.
