We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Arc of Avalon B&B. The owner, Shirley, is is very gracious and helpful. She cooked an amazing full hot breakfast (no need for lunch that day). The B&B area is an addition to the main house with its own private entry. A lovely room with access to a well appointed sitting and dining room. It’s immaculately clean and comfortable. Everything you could need. We highly recommend this B&B.

We have stayed at the Arc of Avalon twice now and both times have been a great experience. Shirley is the perfect hostess and we will certainly stay again any time we go to Ferryland.

It's not hard to tell where Shirley came from, she is simply a genuine, kind and warm Newfoundlander. We loved staying with her, the bed was clean and comfy, the breakfast was awesome (try the bakeapple jam!!) and we would definitely call her up if we ended up back in beautiful Ferryland again. We found this place by accident and it is a gem.

Arc of Avalon will fulfill all your needs for a comfortable and pleasant stay in Ferryland. The hostess Shirley, was most helpful and knowledgeable advising what the area had to offer. I would recommend this B & B to all friends.

My mother and I and my two adult children wanted a night in Ferryland to go to the dinner theatre and have a road trip together. After doing some research I decided to call Arc of Avalon and inquire about staying there. Just having a conversation with Shirley on the phone I booked our night and having met her and stayed there, I will definitely be going again. The B&B is absolutely perfect. Clean beautiful comfortable beds, rooms and excellent bathroom facilities. You have a lovely livingroom area with coffee, tea, fridge and snacks available to you. We happened on lovely warm evening and sat outside till 1 am at cafe table and chairs enjoying each other's company and having glass of wine. The outside property is as fabulous as the inside. To top it off we were served a full hot homemade breakfast in the morning. Toast, eggs, bacon, beans, ham etc. Shirley is the friendliest host and can't do enough for you to make your stay the best. She even drove us to the dinner theatre and picked us up after. Loved our visit and will visit again.

I travel with a friend and we needed a room with two beds, not easy to find in a B&B. Luckily, Ark of Avalon was able to accommodate us and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and comfortable with its own bathroom down the hall and just off a cheery common room, all separate from the family's home area which was nice. Shirley served a wonderful breakfast that lasted us until late afternoon. She made us feel very welcome and offered lots of advice about what we should see and do. It was a great first experience with B&B and if I ever return to Ferryland, I would love to stay there again!

I stayed one night and felt at home. Super friendly owner even shuttled me around and helped me with laundry, went above and beyond my hopes and expectations. Of course the room was good and clean as were the common areas. Dont expect posh, expect a good nights sleep and wonderful views checking out the area. Definitely enjoyed staying here.

On our forth vacation to Newfoundland we had made arrangements to stay in B&Bs in several locations. On April 18, 2018 I contacted Anne-Marie at Hagan’s Hospitality Home, in Aquaforte about our reservation for June 13 & 14. She reconfirmed our reservation saying she looked forward to seeing us.
When we arrived on the afternoon of June 13 we found the sign stating that this was the location of the B&B. However the only thing available was a hole in the ground, no building. A check with the neighbours and the town hall revealed that the house had burned to the ground sometime shortly after April 18th. Anne-Marie had lost all her records and couldn’t notify us of her loss and our non-availability of accommodation.
Without a place to stay for the night we were a little concerned and we started to check the local area. The lady in the town office gave us the locations of a couple of B&Bs in the area. No one home at the first and the second was full, but as I have found in the past, the B&B community is pretty close knit group. “Just a moment,” we were told, “I’ll check out another B&B down the road”.
This time the B&B had a room, and the Arc of Avalon could accommodate us. After getting directions we drove the short distance to Ferryland, and the Ark of Avalon. Shirley Maher welcomed us at the door. We had marvelous stay with Shirley and couldn’t be happier with our accommodation for the night.
Later I emailed the address I had for Anne-Marie and she replied that she was sorry she could not advise us. She had lost all her records in th fire, but she apparently contacted Shirley saying she had someone booked for the 13-14 of June but had no information as to who they were. And she couldn’t contact us.
Being as this was on short notice, we were very happy with the accommodation. Breakfast was really good and as we have come to expect, the breakfast’s are not continental, but quality food. Our room was more than satisfactory and we had a good night’s sleep after our shortened stay in St John’s.
This tale is not about how disappointed we were that Hagan’s Hospitality Home was not available or how much we appreciated visiting the Ark of Avalon. This is about the community accommodation available through the B&B network. This is again a reflection of the people of Newfoundland and how they handle us “come from away” folks.
Thank you for being you, we’ll be back to enjoy this wonderful province.
