About
Keemala harnesses the history of fictitious ancient Phuket settlers and incorporates the story of four different clans within the resort. Keemala’s style blends the indigenous stories of the clans with the decadence of an upscale resort. The architecture is a stark contrast to most hotel accommodation. Keemala’s fantastic cottages, tree houses and pool villas are designed around the unique topographical conditions. Set into the hillside and making use of slopes offering sea views, streams, waterfalls and indigenous trees.
A significant part of the Keemala ethos is to celebrate and cultivate Thai culture. This is strongly perceived in the spa. Treatments and wellness programs are being meticulously designed to utilize bygone techniques, natural herbs used as medicinal remedies in conjunction with old-fashioned pampering. The eight treatment rooms will offer a haven of renewal and the spa will also offer a Thai massage pavilion, steam and sauna rooms along with a fitness room with views of the sea and lush topography, yoga and meditation spaces making Keemala an ideal destination for retreats.
As an extension of the wholesome spirit of Keemala, cuisine offered will also be organic and locally sourced and grown where possible. The menus will incorporate healthy, nutritious and above all delicious meals. Keemala will offer three outlets for dining, the main restaurant, a pool bar, a smaller wine cellar ideal for small parties and meetings and destination dining will be offered to those guests who would like to enjoy the ambience of somewhere distinct, perhaps beside the waterfall, in a separate sala in the grounds or in the comfort of the villa or cottage.

The hotel we would definitely go back for, the town being the state its in? probably not.
Our Tree house room was large and very comfortable set over two floors, the lower leading out to our private pool, the upper leading out on to a balcony, which only had a large double hanging seat rather than loungers to relax on.
The main pool area is lovely and relaxing with a waterfall cascading into it.
There are a few negatives about this resort, you can't walk around as it is built on a steep hill you need to call for a buggy.
The resort is not as secluded as possibly the photos implied and the people from room 307 could see us in our pool should they wish. We could also see into the outside shower of the room below us. You are also looking over the town of Kamala and the bay.
Overall an excellent stay but having stayed in more exclusive resorts previously we feel that Keemala didn't quite live up to our expectations and possibly over-priced. Would we recommend a stay here ? Yes 2/3 night is sufficient.
We ate in the restaurant on the first evening and the food was fantastic, breakfast was always a feast too. We used the shuttle service to the beach, this was quick and easy and stress free. We used the pool and pretty much had it to ourselves. October is still the off season so the hotel was quiet. We enjoyed happy hour lounging next to the pool and were sad we weren't there on a Wednesday when the drinks are free!
Overall we loved Keemala, we couldn't fault it. Hopefully it won't be long before we can go back!
All in all would not recommend this “not in the jungle” hotel and expensive with no atmosphere. Save your money.
On arrival we were taken up to reception by a eclectic buggy. Check in was on a platform out of the main reception area. We arrived late morning and the room was not ready so we had drinks and a light lunch outside looking over to the sea, great view.
After that we were taken to the "room". It was a Clay Pool Cottage. This has a large bedroom with a large bathroom and a lobby area. Because of the hilly location there are steps down to the room and the room is on several different levels. Something to remember in the middle of the night.
There was also a balcony, although the view from it was obdured by vegetation, although one can hardly moan too much about "greenery". There was also a pool, c. 9 meters by 4 meters so a lot bigger than many although it was shaded so quite cool but ok.
As mentioned the terrain is hilly and you have to be reasonably fit to walk around the place. There are electric buggies to take you around if needed.
It is a very green place with lots of trees and vegetation.
We chose to have our evening meal in side due to the last 3 evening meals in Thailand being subject to heavy rain and thunder. However this was not an issue here as it turned out.
Very nice meal, with wine and friendly service. Like everywhere we stayed in Thailand the staff were just great and a lesson in service for the rest of the world to note.
I see comments have been made about how good the breakfast was but I cannot comment as we left too early to have this.
This review is based on a one night experience. Given my personal preferences I would think 3 nights would be all I would want, but I am sure it would be very satisfactory to many who might want to stay longer
We thought our experience was fantastic! Was is pricey - yes. Was it worth it? Also yes. Its not just the stunning views and accommodation but all the little added extras. When we arrived we were greeted with flower garlands and during check in received a lemon tea and Thai snack. When we arrived at our clay pool cottage I fell in love immediately. The bed with all the pillows we pre-selected (yes you can pre-select your pillow type), the coffee facilities, the (not so mini) bar with free soft drinks, our terrace with infinity pool and a bath that was to die for along with an outdoor (and indoor) shower. All the products supplied were first class (again you can request extras e.g shaving kit) and my favourite was the complimentary mosquito repellent (I went through 3 bottles of this). The villa was immaculate, bed comfortable, shower and bath perfect.
The resort is also amazing. The scenery is just beautiful. The common area pool was quiet and we had the pool bar to ourselves (allowing plenty pics at the waterfall). The bar does happy hour where drinks are 2for1 which is a great deal and the quality of the drinks was fantastic. We enjoyed walking around but you can call for a buggy any time and they are pretty quick getting to you.
The restaurant is also fantastic. Breakfast is wonderful with a buffet of continental foods, including every flavour or jam, and you can order anything you like from the menu.
Dinner was also fantastic. We had roses laid on our table (nice surprise) and service was excellent. We had scallops, beef, and the indian set. All were great. We had it included so had set menus. This also meant we were not bothered by price. It would be expensive to eat here every night. However you can walk into the local town in 10/15 minutes (although it is hilly) and get local food there.
At check out, reception helped sort a taxi (bolt) as there was a landslide so transport was a bit tricky. Overall, yes this place is very expensive (especially for thailand) but if you can get a deal or go out of season (or just have plenty money to spend) I would reccomend staying here for at least 2 nights (longer if you can). Particularly if you have a special occasion.
The staff brought a snack for us every night and we couldn't wait to see what the snack of the day was when we got back from being out. The towels and bits in the bathroom were changed daily.
The food was amazing and I looked forward to eating here everyday breakfast was lovely and dinner was amazing, including the service. I can't wait to come back
