We spent 3 nights at the Star, and the reivews are correct - both the negative and positive. On the positive the hotel is spotless, looks like it was recently totally renovated, rooms are very comfortable and well furnished. The breakfast provides cold selections (hardboiled eggs, cheese, vegetables, yogurt) breads, cereals and canned fruits The breakfast area comes across as "aseptic" almost hospital-like, but scrupulously clean. Car rental was very easy with hotel drop off and I would highly recommend to take advantage of all of the island's sights, as the hotel is only close to Megalochori (which has a couple of amazing restaurants). Unfortunately, hot water was only luke warm, fairly low pressure. What was most frustrating was that Internet was spotty at best (unless you sat in the lobby/breakfast area). The son is trying his best with the remote, extended WiFi system, but in 3 days it only worked for minutes 3 times. It was April and still fairly cool, so pool bar was not open, no towels by the pool if you wanted to sit out, and pool washroom had no paper towels or anything to dry hands. All of these things are very unfortunate and easily fixable, hopefully they will. So a comfortable stay, but not without frustrations that could be easily avoided. We contrasted the feeling we had at the Star (things were ok, not great) with our stays in Mykonos and Athens where hotel staff clearly were focused on the customers' needs and making you feel comfortable.
We hope the Star will continue to rise......and one day be a real bright Star in Santorini.

We stayed at Star Hotel for a few nights when visiting friends in Santorini. The hotel founder and manager Mr Vangelis is an outstanding professional, sweet and polite, willing to accommodate all your needs. This is a family business hotel which gives it an extra special feeling of authenticity and hospitality. The hotel rooms were all newly renovated, the beds & mattresses were fantastic and comfortable, bedding was high quality and of course there was air-conditioning in every room. The hotel has a good sized outdoor swimming pool and a breakfast area. There is also free parking throughout the courtyard if you are driving. The hotel is located very close to Megalochori and is pretty close to most towns around Santorini. Totally recommended and will be coming back soon. Thank you.

We visited this hotel for our Honeymoon to Santorini and was very pleased with everything. The hotel was clean and very peaceful. The staff are very respectful and ready to help to provide us with the best time while at their family owned hotel. They were always smiling and asking if we are having a good time.
The cleaning and cooking staff are always helping by getting your morning coffee and anything else you need.
This location is middle of island and great for going either way. Also there is a small village minutes walk behind hotel where you can eat at 3 restaurants or go to the market.
We would recommend this hotel as a place to stay in Santorini.
Very enjoyable Honeymoon

We were booked 3 nights in the Hotel Star Santorini through a tour operator. Upon arrival the owner was standing on the stairs outside the hotel barking at people as to where to put their luggage and where to line up. As we worked our way into the lobby the woman ahead of us needed to pay 9 euros for her room tax. She handed the owner her credit card. He curtly said “cash only.” She handed him a 20 euro bill. He threw it back and said “smaller.” When it was our turn we walked up to the counter and he said “you need to smile, you’re on vacation.” Based on what I had seen so far there was nothing to smile about. After we got our keys he told us that if we needed anything during our stay such as taxis, rental cars or tours we needed to go through him. He provided no map of the area, bus schedule, etc. We went to our room and as another reviewer stated, it felt like a hostel. The room was old and smelled strong of cleaner. Our view out the window was nothing but a dusty field. We decided to look around outside and see if there was anything around that could make this stay any better. The pool area has chairs and very limited umbrellas that are chained down so they can’t be moved. The hotel is located 4 long miles from downtown Fira, which is why we came to Santorini in the first place. There was a bus stop with a reader board that stated there were no buses scheduled. For as far as we could see there were no decent restaurants or stores. We called an Uber and went into downtown Fira. In 30 minutes we found an affordable hotel overlooking the bay where the operators provided the warm and kind service we had come to expect throughout the rest of our vacation in Greece. We went back to the Hotel Star, got our luggage, turned in our keys and never looked back. Fira is beautiful and 3 days barely scratched the surface of all there was to see and do. Please do yourself a favor and carefully read the negative reviews of this property. The positive reviews don’t fit with anything we experienced. If you truly want to enjoy the Santorini you see in all the photos the Hotel Star is not the place to stay.

I am going to preface that we were given this hotel on our tour therefore we had no choice. We are four adult professional females here on holiday.

Initially, we checked in and my friend who is African-American was ignored. My other friend was acknowledged. This small hotel is family run and operated. Which in other cases would be OK except for they close the main area for any type of dining other than breakfast. The staff is all family and can barely speak English and are not attentive. There are kids running around.

The rooms itself are absolutely tiny. My friend and I constantly hit our knees on the beds. The bathrooms are ridiculous. While you are sitting on the toilet your foot is half in the shower.

The Wi-Fi only works in the lobby which is literally a bench that you can sit on. Because everything else is closed. And even that is terrible.

The breakfast was hard-boiled eggs that were cold, a few beets, a few tomatoes, and some hard bread. They wouldn’t even fry an egg for us.

The other horrible thing is that it is in the middle of nowhere and in Santorini you can’t grab a taxi for less than €40.

Overall this hotel ruined our Santorini experience and I hope no one else has to go through this. Please pick anything but this place!

We stayed in this property twice before. We stayed 26 years when the owner was basically starting his hospitality journey. There was basically nothing much in the area then but slowly the area developed and the family expended the accommodation offerings to a reasonable 3 star hotel with a pool etc. we revisited about 8 years ago and we had developed a “friendship” with the owner.this time we came with the rest of the family and booked two rooms .The Thomas Suite and a double room. The two bedroom suite had a double bed and a sofa bed that became a double. The aircon was in one of the rooms so there was no ventilation to the second area which was rather uncomfortable. The front door lock was difficult to lock and unlock as the actual fitting was loose. The second room had a broken small fridge which was switch on by a pair of pliers as the knob was broken. This indicates that this property has failed to keep their maintenance to the minimum expected level.
The breakfast was very spartan with vey very basic offerings which did not meet the minimum of Santorinian hospitality.
In addition what made our stay rather uncomfortable was our interaction with the family’s car rental service which is part of their business structure and is run by the owner’s daughter and son in law Thomas. They gave us an unroadworthy vehicle which they claimed it was the “star” of their fleet! The break lights were not working and the actual vehicle’s suspension was undesirable thus putting everyone at risk including other drivers on the road. When I raised it with Thomas his response was “ I did not know the lights were not working and you do not expect me to check these things before I hand the keys over but I am willing to to give another car”
Their attitude was the problem of our unhappiness basically lack of hospitality professionalism and customer service in an island that has so much beauty to offer.
The only positive in our experience was Lukas who should step up and take over the running of the business yo bring it to the 21st century.

It was the third time we chose hotel Star for our vacations, the service was excellent as always..Mr. Vangelis and Lucas were there for everything we needed
Opposite the hotel you will find a place which belongs to the hotel where you can see the sunset and enjoy the unique view of the caldera.
Very near to the hotel you can find bus stop to go anywhere you like otherwise you can rent a car at the reception.
The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were clean as always!!

I highly recommend it!!!!!!!

As some other reviewers, this hotel was part of package for me too, from Air Canada Vacations. So, I cannot talk about price and value about it because I don't know the price was booked for. But, I would have never had booked this hotel myself. The hotel is clean and with a modern touch. Must be very new, judging by the conditions. But, without wanting to offend anybody personally, the owners are extremely cheap. You can feel that everywhere and every time you need something. The breakfast was a joke and the worst I had in all my trip (5 other hotels I stayed as part of this trip). No accessories in bathroom. Towels are placed on a stool and no place to put the shower soap/shampoo. You need to pay 50cents for pool towels for day and they are so overused. The owner behaves very badly with the cleaning staff. Don't read 5 star reviews for this hotel. There is no way someone would give them 5 star.

This was a very nice hotel. We were greeted with fresh juice after walking from the bus stop which was very much appreciated. The room was spacious and had a very good view from the multiple balconies. It was very dark in the shower. The pool is nice and has a few umbrellas to offer some shade.

We stayed at the Star Hôtel and we really enjoyed our vacation. Lukas, his father and their staff are all very nice people especially Lukas, he is amaizing with his client. He takes time with each of them and gave us very good information, directions and suggestions. The hôtel is well situated near restaurants and bus stops and you just have to cross the street to see the sunset and take beautiful pictures. The hôtel is very clean but the regular rooms would need renovation. We were upgraded to a superior room without asking and the experience was totally different, those rooms are very very nice, confortable and modern. Thank you all for such a nice stay.

There is a bus stop 5 mins walk away from the hotel but it's not a very noticeable bus stop. Depending on season the bus frequency runs about every 10-30 mins. Summer has more buses. It's operated by ktel and Fira is the main stop, so to get to Oia you need to take from hotel - Fira and then board the Fira- Oia bus at the terminal. THe bus is operated by ktel so you can search ktel santorini for the timetable. As said the bus stop was not very visible and the buses are big coaches not very clearly marked, so we missed the first bus, it was also not a major stop so the bus didn't slow down enough for us to see the sign. Frankly if I could go again, I would stay Fira as it's very convenient to catch the buses to other destinations.
