The resort is understated, surrounded by lush greenery. Took a nice refreshing morning swim at the small pool, before heading out to the shops for some shopping. Thereafter, we headed directly to the beach which is a 3-5 minutes walk. It's an enjoyable walk along the quaint quiet roads, where you can see restaurants and bars that become alive evening onwards. The staff can smile more. There are huge mossies but they are not the vicious blood sucking type. Be sure to have mossie repellent.

Nice location, close to beach and a short walk to the main road where most of the restaurants are.
The bungalow we had was fine apart from the bathroom which was poorly designed, old and dirty. It was also hit and miss as to whether hot water was available.
The A/C and wifi were good, the pool area was nice and the gardens well maintained. There was an abundance of mosquitos which is fair enough as there were a lot of plants.
Communicating with the staff was quite difficult at times but we muddled through.
Breakfast was a poor affair with many items not being re-stocked. Eggs were cooked to order which was nice. The coffee was undrinkable.

Tanny is by far one of the nicest and most helpful front of service staff we have ever come across. We would go back again for her alone! Amazing value for money and the perfect distance from the beach. What more could you ask for?

Really huge bungalow in a nice garden for a very fair price, beautiful bathroom. I slept like a baby. Breakfast didn't have many vegetarian options and they were tasteless. Staff was helpful. In total I missed the usual familial atmosphere of other places in Vietnam.

This was meant to be the most relaxing part of our trip in Asia, after just coming from Cambodia where we encountered multiple scams and cons, (which we avoided), we were looking forward to our stay at La Mer.
We couldn't have been more disappointed.
From the moment we checked in, the girl at the front desk told us that she would be keeping our passports for the duration of our stay.
Be warned, this is a common scam in Asia. They keep your passports and ask you to pay an extra $100 or so to get them back.
After many arguments, she finally (and reluctantly) agreed to keep the photocopies we had made of our passports rather than the originals.
From that moment on the service was rubbish.

We were let into a room that was full of mosquitos (hello Malaria!), and later discovered that a hive of GIANT bees had made their nest in the bathroom terrace.
After asking multiple times to be moved to another room, she still refused and instead ended up getting someone to put a tarp up covering the bathroom which actually resulted in the bees being trapped inside the bathroom with us, and no way to escape.
After this, she got a staff member to try and kill them with insect spray and still refused to move us to another room.

There were rats in the roof as well, and don't expect to sleep in on your holiday. Nope, you'll be woken bright and early at 7 am by the family and children who live there who don't bother to keep their voices down.

The breakfast was mediocre. I ordered "fried bread with butter and jam" the first morning (expecting something like french toast) and ended up having two slices of white bread and a small bowl of jam put in front of me.

The staff don't speak a word of English too, so bring Google translator if you want to be understood.

In the end, it was a complete disaster.

Dear LAURA M, Thank you very much for choosing La Mer Resort your preferred resort while visiting Phu Quoc Island. I totally agree that your stay with us was highly affected and negatively influenced by insects in the bathroom and do not understand each different language. Please accept one more time my sincere and utmost apologies. I chose this hotel as a decent looking midrange place, close to (note, not on) the beach in a little cluster of accommodation close to a couple of beach-side restaurants and low-key bars. The bungalow rooms were lovely, modern, clean and spacious, the gardens pretty and the pool great (although sun-loungers all facing NE is an error in my mind!). The breakfast was pretty poor, although I appreciated the omelettes and pancakes that were made to order, the western choice of 'bread', 'bacon', 'sausage' etc. was all pretty rank and the Asian food, although probably delicious, was cold so I never risked it. The staff, although lacking in English, were perfectly pleasant as long as you aren't embarrassed communicating a bit in gestures!

HOWEVER my big complaint comes when on my penultimate day I return to my room to find sewage bubbling up my toilet... the duty manager comes to investigate, apologises and explains that repairs on the adjacent bungalow which shares pipes with mine has caused the problem. He tells me this work is now finished and fixes the issue. But then when I ask for the toilet and bathroom area to be cleaned, it is as though I am acting like a total princess, and when I asked for it to be cleaned with actual disinfectant, I have to go into the cleaning cupboard to find some soap - apparently only the 'big hotels' have such things he tells me! When I finally think our little argument is over, he casually mentions that the work will be beginning again at 6am. I ask to change rooms, again met with the idea that I am being hysterical and ridiculous. To cut a long story short, I had to kick up a major fuss to get moved, which created a horrible atmosphere on my last day, and annoyed me particularly as I had spent a little more to avoid things like this which I have experienced with your typically backpacker beach bungalows.

This is a terrific place to stay. The breakfast is excellent, the rooms and beds are comfortable, the pool is a delight and the staff are incredible. Tanh (Tanny) is especially an asset to La Mer, a delightful person who understands hospitality. Likewise, the gardens at La Mer are an outstanding feature, someone here has a green thumb. The neighbourhood contains many bars and small restaurants within easy walking distance and its no distance at all to the beach. You can hire a scooter across the street and the resort even has a small library. Most of the guests are Finns and Swedes, some British and Russian, probably more suited to an older or family crowd. The wifi worked well during our stay and, until last week at least, you could drink cocktails round the pool from 4pm. We liked it here so much that we have stayed twice, both bungalow and standard room: the standard rooms are the best value for money, many complain about the 'outdoor' bungalow toilet, perhaps with good reason if you have a bug or gekko-phobia, but the bungalows are more expensive, and its hard to see the value proposition. There are many mosquitos here so its advisable to sleep with the mosquito net provided. The only downside is that the pool is so attractive that it often hard to find a sun-bed (12 are available).

The setting of this resort is beautiful. It's like a little village with all the little bungalows and loads of plans and a pond. The rooms are spacious, very simple but lovely. The outdoor bathroom is great as well. The way the bungalows are set out really make you feel like you have your own private space.
The pool area is really nice. Gets the sun all day pretty much and they provide towels for you to use at the pool or take to the beach.
The breakfast is included and there was plenty of choice every morning. Very nice.
The resort is only a 5 min walk from the beach.
I would definitely recommend staying here. Excellent value for money and a very homely relaxing stay.

We had booked at La Mer 5 month in advance (we were told to hurry because of the festive season,..).
The first thing to know is that once your booking is paid, there is no way, for any reason, to get reimbursed in case of problem.
Other point, if you like to be quiet, mainly in the morning, avoid bungalow #01. It is located next to the open air restaurant and breakfast starts at 7am,...
Otherwise, you will find a reasonable cleanliness in the large bedrooms and some hot water all the day long, which is quite important in such place. You'll also enjoy a nice garden as well as a nice swimming pool for those who wouldn't like to swim in the sea,...
To finish, wifi is "So So" but, we were on holidays,... and, finally, we enjoyed.

This hotel was booked for us via another hotel in Hanoi, we had no idea , the professional pictures in all booking sites were very promissing. We arrived midday the reception was a small desk,it was hard communicating with the staff at reception nobody to help us with our luggage, the room was relativly clean, the bathroom was somehow outside the room and its roof was covered / made of bamboo and plastics, but it was clean too. The breakfast was very average. It is a good 2 star hotel, we may go back there again if the room rate is around 750,000 VnD and 1,350,000 (what we paid) for one night per room. However the garden is nice and relaxing.
