This was my sixth visit to Jibacoa, however, it has been 10 years since my last visit and thankfully this resort has changed very little. Many of the same employees from the distant past are still working.
You know a resort is well managed when the General Manager and selected staff will come up to you and ask "Is Everything alright?"
There are items that cannot be addressed by staff, such as the odd missing tile around the pool or the dated vanity in the bathroom, however, the primary achievement is the outstanding customer service.
I travelled alone and decided to try the Diamond Club, with the primary benefit being an extra 2 hours to vacate my room on the final day. The other benefits such as early entry into your room (wasn't available), assigned beach area, lobster beach dinner (turned out to be fish) and exclusive dining area for lunch and breakfast had no value to me. Unless you are a couple looking for exclusive treatment in confined areas, I wouldn't recommend the Diamond Club.
The existing food, beach, location, scenery, Cuban Music playing by live bands throughout the day and the amazing staff who work tirelessly without regard for gratuities are some of the reasons why I will return to this resort again.
One final note!
Bring your own pillow!!!!
The bed and mattress are great, but the pillow is hard and uncomfortable. I had taken my down-filled personal pillow with me and I slept like a baby!

We were overall very happy with our stay at Memories Jibacoa. We have stayed at other resorts in the Varadero area, and for us two things stood out:
(1)The location is amazing, especially if you enjoy snorkeling and scuba. The reefs and fish variety are better than anywhere I have seen – including Hawaii. And you can swim out to the reefs from the resort beach. We were lucky the weather and ocean conditions were perfect for 6 of 7 days … In addition to the snorkeling, we hiked the hill behind the hotel – a steep climb but otherwise safe – and once on top you can either head to a stunning natural lookout, or follow another trail that leads behind the hill into the Cuban countryside. Something you will never see on the Varadero strip.
(2)The entertainment was excellent – better than anything I have seen in Cuba. The opera evening - while sparsely attended – was fantastic. Management please bring these singers back again – just don’t schedule them the night after New Year’s Eve when everyone is hungover and tired. The New Years celebration itself was great – both the dinner and shows.
Also positive on the a la carte restaurants, the made to order breakfast omelets, the beach restaurant for lunch (great grilled fish!), and the small bands that played Cuban music in the lobby – very talented in style of Buena Vista Social Club.
Some people have commented on the property and rooms feeling ‘old’. I really don’t agree – the place is well kept. It’s also a relatively smaller resort and in a minute or so, you can walk to the beach, pool, lobby or a la cartes.
There were a few minor annoyances not worth getting into (except for one – make sure all the balcony sliding doors can be closed/locked properly!) But these annoyances didn’t take away from the overall great experience at Memories Jibacoa, and we would go back again.

We stayed the week of Jan 11 - 18/2020. This was our first time in Cuba and we had such a great time at this adults only resort. It’s small so we didn’t have to wait in line and very easy to walk and only takes minutes to get to any of the restaurants or bars. The food was so good. Our favourite was the ala carte Italian Restaurant. We booked diamond and were 1 building away from the beach and a 2 minute walk to the pool. It was very quiet. The service was wonderful, staff is very friendly and go out of their way for you. Management is very hands on. Entertainment is good, Cuban day is Friday and they have entertainment and authentic food, it’s a lot of fun. The resort is older but kept very clean. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The reef off of the beach was one of the reasons that we chose that location. Unfortunately the jelly fish were bad that week so we couldn’t do much snorkelling. The weather was quite warm but windy. The beach is beautiful and there are lots of activities. We didn’t get the lobster dinner for the diamond club night so that was the only negative as I don’t eat fish but you can request something different when you RSVP ( we had read that it was lobster so didn’t check to ensure).
We booked a day trip to Havana with a private car and driver which was very nice, cost was $90 CUC for the car and $10 CUC for the guide. We enjoyed it and had lunch at a local spot.
We went to a restaurant off site called The Tower. It had beautiful views and the food was incredible! We had a lobster dinner with choice of meat for $15 CUC and they pick you up at the resort and it’s included with your meal.
We loved our vacation but found it to be more expensive than we thought it would be. Food and drinks at the airport was very expensive.
If your looking for a quiet resort closer to Havana this is a terrific spot. It was an hour to Havana and 90 minutes to Varadero. The ride from and to the airport is about 45 minutes.

After visiting cuba a few times and experienced the cuisine this hotel does not deliver on its food, the management obviously devise a menu which is targeted at the Canadian or European guests and it is not great, most can cook better than this at home. The cleaners work extremely hard however in my room and other people's I spoke to there was a rusty bath and shower so this is impossible to sanitize. The bed was clean and had a firm mattress and there was fresh water each day. It is disappointing to have an un clean bathroom which needs replacing desperately . The pool is not to health standards either , even though we saw a person testing the water some the tiles on the bottom are missing so this cannot be hygienic. The staff are the best thing about this hotel very polite. Better hotels are in Cuba for the same money which my wife and I payed ( over £4000) Granted this is including a flight but for the same money we have stayed at better quality hotels. The restaurant had two evenings where it was decorated with canadian flags all over ,which as an Englush couple we felt as though the Canadian population of the hotel were most welcome and it was all about them, this is not only unprofessional it made european guests seem isolated which given the fact we are a world now which is supposed to be harmonised it is wrong by the management on every level. We will return to Cuba as the country has beautiful scenery and culture but not to this hotel.

This was our first visit to MJ (we have been to Cuba at least 15 times) and we will go back because the pace was wonderfully relaxed: plenty of palapas, wonderful staff, adults only and the a la cartes restaurants were great. We opted for the Diamond Club and enjoyed the lobster dinner at The Ranchon along with the late check out, the Italian restaurant for breakfasts and some lunches. Also, we went to The Tower for dinner. Yendris from DC made the reservation. The owner picks you up at the hotel - he cooks with his chefs, serves your table, sings with his 2 musicians and drives you back...fun night for 15CUC. We also went to El Cacique up the road, also very good for 20CUC. Across from this restaurant, there is a couple who makes hats - she measures your head and your hat will be ready the next day. Her husband has very limited eye sight so he does the weaving (5CUC). What I really enjoyed at Memories was the nightly music in the lobby. The musicians did not play at your table (same at the a la cartes) but of course, you can make a donation. The piano bar and staff was our choice location for "one for the road". Oraylis is one of the bar tenders who sings, whistles and seems to have as much fun as the guests. Also, Yendris from Diamond Club was great to solve a few issues very quickly. The only thing I could suggest is to add more hand soap during the day to the bathrooms closest to the beach. We had hot water every morning, clean room, cold beer and a good time.

This was our fourth time visiting Memories Jibacoa and we were welcomed by our family. As soon as we got out of the van, we were welcomed by Jose the bell boy. It was great seeing him again. Check in was a breeze as always. We got ourselves a drink and off we went to see all of our friends starting with Juan Miguel and Roger at the buffet then we went to see Yoel, Edgar and Cenia at the beach bar. It was Lewis' day off when we arrived so we saw him at the beach the following day. It was also nice to see Rana and Mario at the beach.
David the manager is an awesome guy, he is hands on and we see him all day long walking the resort, picking up trash on the beach and interacting with guests of the resort. We spoke to him at least once everyday during our 7 day stay. Miguel, food and bev manager is as nice as always great to talk with and an all around nice guy. It was great seeing Gentry again with the entertainment staff, he is a great guy and loves his job. To bad that Victor also in entertainment was on sick leave while we were there. For the first time, we did the mountain hike with Michael it was awesome and Michael knows what he's talking about. Great view from the mountain top.
We were in room 2223 and loved the area, did run out of hot water on our last 2 days but we managed to shower anyways. The food in the buffet, Gourmet and Italian was very good and so was lunch at the beach restaurant. We had a great time and we are already booked for April 1st, that how much we love that place.
The only disappointment was that Karina at the piano bar was on vacation so we didn't get the chance to see her again. Jorge the piano player was not back from China yet and our great friend and great guitar player, "CRAZY" only plays once a week in the Italian restaurant and once in the piano bar. It would be nice to hear him play more often. We only got to see Kki a couple of days because he was gone for meetings, but when he arrived we felt his presence. What an asset to the resort.

This hotel complex is between Havana and Varadero nicely tucked between the hills away from the heavier tourist resorts. It is kept spotlessly clean and the rooms are spacey with balconies and decent size bathrooms. Each room is in a block only two stories high and the blocks are located all over the gardens, poolside or are beach fronted. The food is of a local nature and there is plenty of it and there will be something for everyone. There are three other restaurants serving different styles of food and the one on the beach serves as a lunchtime provider of chicken and chips plus burgers etc. Games are held on the beach and in the large pool and taking part is up to you with no hassle. There is nightly entertainment and a nightclub (disco). One can eat anytime over 24 hours as somewhere will be open. Similarly a bar is open all night. The piano bar is popular until 1.30am and the pool bar closing at around 10.30pm. All the staff are friendly. helpful and very likeable. The reps for the various tour companies all seemed to be always available with the TUI rep, Bill, extremely visible and helpful. Some shops are onsight but it is perfectly safe to go off premises and mix with the friendly locals. There are many sunbeds and shade on the long beach and the sea has a reef not far off shore. We stayed a fortnight until the 20th March and heartbrakingly the hotel was having to temporary close as no one could leave there country due to the coronavirus. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as we had a great time.

As of 2020, I have visited Jibacoa 8 times. Laid back but very good. The tennis program, beach volleyball, and other organized activities allow you to be as active as you choose, depending upon how active your fellow guests of the time might be. On-site tennis pro, Alberto, is top-notch, university trained, skilled in technique and strategy, with a very personable and effective instructional style. (Check him out by searching Alberto Tennis Jibacoa on YouTube.) Musical entertainment is good. Frequently appearing is an excellent acoustic group called Akarey that plays a wide portfolio of traditional Cuban music and international classics. The "beauty" and "uniqueness" stem from its location, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean on the north and two large hills to the south. Unlike many tourist areas in Cuba, the resort is not isolated from the Cuban residents. Memories Jibacoa is set in a rural countryside. The beach is excellent with snorkelling to a coral (albeit a little tired) reef, right off the shore. Scuba diving and other nautical activities are also available. Like all Cuban staff members that I've encountered in about 30 visits to Cuba, they are genuinely personable and warm. Like all Cuban resorts that I've visited (7) the food is 'okay', (You don't go to Cuba for the food.) After visiting Cuba so often, I've settled on only two resorts for return trips. This is one of them. I'm sure there are other worthy resorts but I think the uniqueness of this one sets it apart.

Not the usual place my partner and myself would stay in but after a tour of Cuba, we felt it would be a way of unwinding and relaxing. Not disappointed. Adults only, and dare I say it - adults of a certain age and the entertainment staff had their work cut out for the evening shift. All inclusive with food and drink available at various places throughout most of the day and night. Accommodation was clean, with a very large king size bed, TV and coffee making machine. The young lady who cleaned the room was always cheerful and spoke when she saw us, perhaps with half a mind on the tip. The grounds were well tended, the beach was just a few minutes walk away, with plenty of sun beds and shade. Jellyfish meant swimming was off the agenda on one day, but the sea was crystal clear and perfect for snorkling. Very good way to end and excellent tour of Cuba.

Just returned from another visit to Memories Jibacoa and have to share that this was one of our best visits EVER!
Yes, there were supply issues with the food, 95% of the stores/museums were closed in Havana, COVID test results did not arrive as expected, the restaurants in the resort were not running as normal due to the very low occupancy, the Piano Bar/Disco was closed, swimming/snorkeling in the ocean was sparse due to Tropical Storm Eta, the Dive centre was closed, excursions were difficult to figure out, Diamond Club did not have all the items as outlined on the website, and we could not give our friends a hug.
That said, we went with the expectation that all that and many other things would be different, so we had little to no expectations, had to be patient, and very flexible.
One thing we did see from the moment we arrived was the attention to detail regarding the safety protocols. There was hand sanitizer everywhere, luggage was sprayed, masks are worn by ALL staff, and physical distancing was not a challenge due to the low occupancy. We felt safer than going to our local big box stores.
There have been some improvements around the resort including a new bridge to the beach, new concrete on the outdoor entertainment area, new mattresses in some rooms, new washrooms by the pool/entertainment area, the Lobby area was redecorated, and a coat of paint on many surfaces. Many parts of this 20+ year-old resort still need some attention, but that did not bother us.
What did make this extraordinary time truly amazing was the STAFF! Everyone did their absolute best to make our stay a memorable one. From the Reception team to the gardeners, cleaning staff, entertainment team, kitchen staff, maintenance, musicians, singers, dancers, bartenders, security, and others, we appreciated their every effort to show that they wanted us to be happy. A big Thank You to all!
One person we do want to acknowledge for all their efforts is Interim General Manager. From the warm greeting on arrival to the daily check-ins, and finally the departure, she made us feel like valued repeat guests. She made us want to come back again and the entire team had her back. Hopefully, we can make it sooner than later and so can many others.
