Ooike hotel is over 50 years old, but recent renovations make it looks like new. Conveniently located near the Kawaguchiko lake, at walking distance from a Bus-stop. Take from there the sightseeing bus that goes around the lake and you will be able experience most of the sightseeing places in a convenient way. Staff at the hotel is very friendly. We stayed two nights in a traditional room, sleeping on tatami and futon blankets. It's really an experience that i can recommend. Slept very well. The hotspring batch is rather simple but traditionally Japanese and just like it should be. Clean and efficient. Worth to mention is the astonishing view of mount Fuji from the hotspring bath as well as from the room. Breakfast is sufficient and elaborate. There is nothing negative to mention at all about this hotel. Great value for money. Our stay was excellent.

We came here for only one night. The staff were nice, there was a beautiful relaxing lounge we stayed in until check in where they served free juices and coffee and snacks. It’s about 5 minute drive from Kawaguchiko station, and 20 minute walk. There are Fuji views but unfortunately the day we went it was very cloudy so we could not see. The rooms we chose were the ryokan style rooms. They were lovely, clean and very comfortable. They provided kimonos and slippers in the room. We booked in with the private onsen which was so beautiful and relaxing. After we also booked a massage which was with an elderly couple in our private room, but I would not recommend. The onsen though was beautiful. This was all for an extra charge. Breakfast was nice with a mix of Japanese and western. It’s right beside Lawson convenience store which on a clear day has an amazing view of Mt Fuji.

I lost my t-shirt at the hotel but when I noticed and tried to get it back, the front desk told me it was not found. I don’t know why they lied to me because I know for sure it was hang in the closet. And it’s just normal standard to keep customers lost belongings for a few days.

I am sure many travellers who booked this hotel was after their Mount Fuji view inside their rooms. I, too, was chasing after this spectecular view and I deliberately spent more to reqeust and booked a room on the 4/F (Annex Building / Western Style) to ensure the best view of Mount Fuji. However, upon checking into the room (I was assigned room 471) , I discovered the window is not exactly clear, it has crisscross paterns imprinted into the glass. This was never mentioned on both Agoda or the official hotel website. I have checked and re-checked again when I sat dumbfounded inside the room and I was 100% sure none of this was mentioned. I messaged my friend who recommended me this hotel and she stayed on the same floor as I did and her room was without obstruction. I felt that this was extremely unfair becuase we paid the same price for the hotel, and that this was not mentioned in any fine print of small prints. All of my photos from the room was obstrctured by the patterned glass and despite the fact that we were lucky to see a beautiful Mount Fuji under nice weather, the photos taken from the room were all hardly presentable. I felt like I was decieved. If I was told during booking and payment of this hotel that the windows had some sort of patterned glass and will obstruct the view of the landscape I wouldnt have booked this hotel in the first place. The price I paid for this hotel was nowhere near worthy with the obstructed view. Please, if you were to book this hotel, please write to them and ensure that you were given a room without obstructed views, otherwise, do not bother spending your money here, I was so disappointed and really regretted my choice.

The hotel was a disappointment but overall okay.
The room SMELLED really BAD of cigarettes!!
The view to the mountain is okay if you get above 2nd floor - still with a view to electrical wires and a parking lot though! (...we had paid to get a mountain view and got a room on the 2nd floor at first!)
Note that the public bath doesn't have a view.

From the time we received no assistance in bringing our luggage to our rooms when we checked in to zero prescience at the front door when we checked out encapsulate how poor this so called Ryokan is. No-one came to our room to make welcome tea. Basically no welcome!. Very un-Japanese in trying to squeeze every cent they can while we were there. Asked for extra pillows and reply was there was a charge for extra pillows. Each person limited to one. Food was below average. When we purchased food items as gifts for friends, no extra bags were given so that we can present the gifts to our friends, and when asked for extra bags, the shop assistant basically threw the bags at us. Horrible ryokan. Avoid if you can. Never made to feel more unwelcome and unappreciated in a ryokan as this one. Have stayed in more than 10 ryokans over the years. First bad experience.

Have had a two-night-stay in one of the most expensive suites in the hotel which cost me over 100000yen for two nights.

However the attitude of the staff and the strictness of their service doesn't worth it.

Have been delayed by air flight, I can only be managed to arrive there after 7. However at 720 they called my mobile, after they heard where our location were, they told us no dinner could be provided. We ride two and a half hour full speed to the hotel just to catch the dinner however they just simply ask us to eat outside on the phone.

I enquired as the food can be packed to a box as a dinner box but they refused, they even told me that they do not allow any food inside the room, which is completely ridiculous. I have been travelling in japan for over 30 times in the past few years and have been staying and different hot spring hotel, this excuse is not acceptable!

We basically can accept and continue driving. After arrival, we enquired if the food charge can be waive as no food is provided, they simply say no. They just charged you for service that you do not received.

We then ask for the ways to the nearest restaurants, one young male staff with short hair shouted out rudely and point one direction and ask us to walk for 10 mins without giving a map. Me and my wife were shocked, this is the first time I met such a rude staff in my life in the whole world. another young female staff immediate hand us a map as we looked angry. How can you expected a foreign guest to know where to go for a restaurant in darkness without a map? It's just nonsense.

The second night we finally get to have the dinner in the hotel but the quality is poor. If you expected fine hot spring meal, please don't choose this hotel.

Otherwise the hardware of the hotel is ok. Just some of the people sucks and destroy the whole experience...

Loved this hotel. Staff were very helpful, room was great, and the thermal baths were awesome. Main reason why I booked in this hotel was first because of the reviews on Tripadvisor, and second because you could book a private bath. You see, my wife and I have tattoos, especially all over our backs. Obviously this represents a problem in japan, so i thought at least if we can have access to a provate bath then we can still experience the japanese onsen. When we checked in we asked the staff if we could still access the public areas despite our tattoos, and they said to just not say anything and act normal. Well guess what, we were able to enjoy all the public areas even if there were a lot of older folks,a nd none of them seems bothered with our tattoos ( obviously we were veey respectful and not showing them in their face!!) only once a lady stared at my wife, but that's all. Big plus, their foot massage machines and ice cream machines right next!!! Wowwwww.... Food in the hotel is very expensive, but plenty cheap and excellent restaurants nearby. Also. Ie the rooms have a fridge, so bring your own booze. Shuttles to train/bus station very nice too, and free.

Very expensive for the offer. The onset is good, but on a cloudy day nothing special. Apparently you need a reservation for breakfast, which I didn't know so I had to get breakfast outside. After reading the many articles about hospitality in Japan, this was a great disappointment. Room was clean.

We have travelled to different parts of Japan and enjoyed stays at ryokans from Kyoto and Hakone's famous ryokans to small ryokans and always enjoyed them.
This hotel is very ordinary, somewhat dismal.
Unimpressive food and basic service.
I'm here only because I forgot to cancel on time through the online booking website and managed to cancel other hotels.
The only points saving them from the bottom score are: rooms do not reek of cigarette smoke (a problem in many Japanese hotels) and , free wifi in room that actually works (also a problem in many ryokans/hotels).
