Last weekend I stayed at a cabin at the Hillcrest View Inn in Pugwash. It was a charming cabin with lots of space, two bedrooms, modern bathroom and open kitchen living room. Everything you would need. Cupboards were well stocked with dishes, coffee pot, microwave and fridge.
Thanks to the owners and staff for being so attentive to cleanliness and helpful.

Elaine is a superhost. She and her staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay here was perfect everytime. I've stayed here multiple times on business as well as for family vacation. The rooms are very well kept, cozy and clean. The property sits only minutes from all the beautiful beaches on the Northumberland Straight. With great food, golf and attractions close by. I would highly recommend this property to anyone that wants to relax in a nice quiet little town.

I am very familiar with the Hillcrest View Inn. There are some positives: it had a full renovation ending late 2010 that brought the dingy rooms, and restaurant to an acceptable and more modern level. The restaurant had their menu revamped professionally and their staff trained to acceptable levels. The problems are: the rooms are still way overpriced (why pay $100 bucks a night here when you can drive 30 minutes to Amherst stay in a new Super 8 with a pool and a hot tub for the same), the motel has zero amenities (no fitness room, no business center, no pool, no suites, no vending.... etc ad nauseum) the food is way overpriced with smaller portions then one would like. The staff is completely inconsitent and fall back on poor service far too often. This place suffers from inconsistent seasonal clientele and thus cannot sustain itself..... they had a great re-opening then the standards kept dropping through the low season .... now when I stop in (when open May to September, talking about restaurant) all that remains is an overpriced menu, poor service, in a freshly renovated dining room. Lastly, they renovated the washrooms but they didn't improve them as they are still way to small and cramped.

I feel badly because I know they gave it the college try but in the end the market is much too thin for this place to ever succeed ergo they slip into there backwoods, low service, overpriced ways.

Just had dinner last night at the Hillcrest View Restaurant. Modern dining room that is tastefully decorated, with warm friendly staff. Great choices of food and wine from the area makes it especially appealing. Thank goodness for the prompt service because I kept changing my mind on what to order! Settled on the lobster-haddock bake which was "lick your plate delicious!", with the garlic mashed potatoes and cole-slaw (although the fries that I stole of my partner's plate were top-notched too). Restaurant was full of people from adults to seniors so obviously there is something for everyone. Well done Hillcrest!

Wonderfully fresh fish and other locally-sourced foods prepared with a light, creative touch. Great homemade desserts, like the brownie with local raspberries and whipped cream--yum!! The freshest haddock we've eaten in Nova Scotia, and the most generous servings of local wines. The A fantastic place to stop for lunch or dinner. Its beige-siding exterior and the fact that there aren't many places to eat in this area made its excellence all the more a delicious surprise. Great service, great prices, great honest food. A gem.

We were in the area for a sporting event with our daughter and needed a room for one night, and possibly a second depending if our team won or lost on the first day. The staff there informed us to just let us know by noon on the following day if we required the second night. Our team lost, we stayed the first night and told them first thing the next morning that we would not be requiring a second night. We were told that we were required to pay for the second night regardless as we did not give them ample notice of cancellation and would be charged for the second night on our credit card either way. The owner was contacted, an argument ensued in which the owner acted VERY unprofessional. The staff member then denied ever telling us it would be alright to cancel the second night before noon. Just a horrible experience and a horrible owner with employees that lie. A terrible way to handle business. Will never stay there again.

We stopped here for lunch at the recommendation of a friend and found a nice little restaurant with quick friendly service and good food. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was fresh with a nice crispy batter and the fries were, according to our 14 year old - "good, really good". Thanks to the generous portions, there was plenty to share. Two thumbs up!

Just returned to the UK from a holiday in NS including 2 nights in Pugwash. This little motel is very good. Clean rooms with 2 double beds, flat screen tv, microwave, small fridge, hairdryer, air con. The attached restaurant was also good with lovely staff. The owner, Elaine, was very attentive and friendly and always on call. I would recommend this place if you are travelling through Pugwash or staying a few days.

We've actually been to this motel/inn twice and have had a great experience both times. The first time was right after the renovations in 2013 and the second time in the summer of 2015. Both times the rooms were very clean and the service very friendly. This inn is a great option if you're looking for a place to stay the night on your way to Halifax, Fundy, PEI,....

If you stay here, definitely plan to have a meal in their restaurant: the food is absolutely delicious! Most ingredients are local and and the prices are great! One of the people in our group in 2013 still claims it's the best burger she ever had.

If you have some time before or after your stay, go and visit the Jost winery nearby (we discovered them the first time around when we tasted their pinot grigio at the restaurant), taste some local beer at the Tatamagouche brewery or visit one of their pretty beaches. Ask the staff for recommendations, they will gladly point you in the right direction, as they did us both times we were here.
