We had the BEST time with this excursion! Dolfos Stanley was our tour guide, and we could not be happier! We speak Spanish, but were pleasantly surprised to find out that he spoke fluent English, even without an accent. He explained that on the Island of Roatán the first language is English and the second is Spanish. He sounded more like he was from Jamaica. So don’t worry about a language barrier here! We were in a private van, just us and Dolfos! This was nice because we didn’t have to share the trip. The van had nice and cold air conditioning as well! He took us wherever we wanted to go. We held monkey and sloths first. I didn’t realize that where we were wasn’t the zoo, so please be aware that if you want to go to the zoo, be specific about that. If you just want to hold a monkey or a sloth, they have some in large cages you can pet and hold for $15 a person. After that, we went to the West End. We wanted to see the beaches and the recommended “nice end of town”. We also did a glass bottom boat trip. It was $35 per person. It was a boat that was half submerged underwater. The boat was air conditioned and we were out for about 45 minutes. We go to see the coral reef and different fish. My son loved it. The tour guide for the boat was very knowledgeable about the fish and the coral reef.
We had great conversation with Dolfos, and knowing our 18 month old loved watermelon, he stopped and got us one on his own. He let us try some other typical fruit such as a Cashew Fruit. Who knew a cashew nut is grown on top of a delicious fruit!?? We had a great lunch at a local restaurant as well. Overall, we had the best time and highly recommend this excursion. Especially if you just want to make up your day as you go. It was very relaxing and fun.
