Not much to do in Libertyville so this helped fill an evening. We took a quick mile walk around, saw a few chipmunks, took a few pics. We live in the country so this was nothing special to us. Saw a few people fishing, running and some rollerbladers. Would be a good place to take younger kids to run off some energy! Well kept and nice easy paths to stroll around. We went in the late evening so the paddle boats weren’t open but would be fun to do with kids.

Worst band ever….left early and very disappointed. July 25, 2023. Really pay more and get some quality bands. This was worse than a high school garage band.

This place is a public space that is really designed for everyone. Full of walking and biking trails, seats, picnic tables, lakes and boats and a Beer Garden!! Families love it, they keep the grounds immaculate and for us, NO DOGS. It is nice not to have to worry about dogs and dog messes. One of the best in this county and this county is truly remarkable in is public spaces. Go for a walk then have a beer.

When I went there it's huge and it's the most visited Forest Preserve in Lake County, IL and it's huge and you can't cover it in one day.

This extraordinary forest preserve is worth a visit any time of the year.

Becuase of this season's heavy snowfalls, not all of the paths had been cleared. You could tell from tracks in the snow that this did not stop visitors with appropriate footwear from striking out across the terrain.

During this particular visit, ice skating was forbidden, but ice fishing was going on. I couldn't resist taking photos of groups of fisherpeople scattered across the lake -- some drilling holes as I watched. The thaw is coming.

Because this property is so large and has so much parking, it is very easy to social distance during your visit.

See earlier reviews for more details (May 9, 2020; July 18, 2017; and September 4, 2016).

This time we did the Overlook Trail -- a little more than two and half miles along the periphery of the park.
.
In addition to the beautiful scenery, we saw two sets of goslings -- one clustered on land, and one lined up between their parents as they floated on the lake.

There is plenty of parking and room on the trails to observe safe social distancing.

See my earlier September 4, 2016 and July 18, 2017 reviews for more details.

Been there many times, this is a great asset for Lake County. The trails are great, there is so much to do and it is so pretty there.

Very nice place but dogs are not allowed here. Not even on a leash. What a pity! You can bike here and play volleyball in the summer but no dogs.

Just had a wedding and reception here. The grounds are beautiful, wonderful place for a fall wedding. The event coordinator was awful. Nasty, sarcastic, just all around mean. The food was mostly awful. Lots of it was inedible, the things that were edible ran out quickly since other things were so terrible. When I called the day after the wedding to express my disappointment I talked to a gentleman who spent 35 minutes talking me in circles, interrupting me and double talking. Not once did he apologize for the terrible experiences, just kept saying to read the reviews, that they were all wonderful, stellar, fantastic. He said that he has never had a complaint about this event coordinator and blamed the bride, groom, bridal party and myself for the problems.
Well, here you go dude, a review that is not wonderful, fantastic or stellar.
Not only won't I ever have anything to do with Independence Grove again but I will now go out of my way to make sure people know about the treatment and lack of hospitality that we received.
