We did part of this trail, on maps it's called 'Discover our Wild Side' Trail which is just the part at te back of the town. We wanted a short-ish walk to enjoy the surroundings of this lovely town. Whether we were naive to the surrounding area believing being close enough to town was enough OR lack of information in our accommodation OR failings in our research of the area - take bear spray - we did not and came face-to-face with a Grizzly Bear. (Luckily it didn't see us and was not interested). We were lulled into a false sense of security from the sheer number of cyclists and runners on the trail. Most terrifying experience of our lives.

The trail we did prior to this near-death experience was lovely though. Next time we visit (with bear spray) we will do the rest of the trail.

In Jasper National Park, there are many trails. But not so many in the Jasper town area. But there is one that’s nice, The Discovery Trail. This is a long trail that encircles the town. Branching off of the trail are other trails that go off into the forest for varying distances. The Discovery Trail begins just off the back of the Hotel parking lot. We took it. Actually it was better than I anticipated. I thought it would be a rather flat trail just off various parking lots. Nope. The Trail went further back into the hillside than I anticipated. Actually in places out of sight of town. And there was more elevation change (both up and down) than expected. A really nice trail.

Beautiful nature encounter; started with the Discovery trail around Jasper and ended doing Mina Lakes. Right in bear land (did not encounter any!), but saw dear and just enjoyed this beauty around town trails

A big part of this trail is on the side of a hill that backs onto the parking lots of hotels and the backyards of townhouses - not very scenic. A lot of the interpretive panels are missing, so I didn’t “discover” that much. I wish I would have used my limited time in Jasper to do a real hike outside of town.

The Jasper Trails were a great way to hike in and around forests without venturing to far away from town. We particularly enjoyed the trail that took you towards pyramid mountain. The paths were relatively flat and we had no trouble walking on them without crampons in winter.

Easy walk circumnavigates the small town of Jasper, taking in the natural woodlands, meadows and railway as you go. Evidence of wildlife is more obvious than the animals themselves - 'droppings' of deer and elk all around; ground flora of creeping dogwood and bearberry very pretty. information boards excellent, though several had been defaced, sadly.

This a walk of about six miles or so which starts with a sidewalk pathway through the main street and then crosses to follow a meandering pathway past teh backs of houses and then into forest. While it has so quite steep slopes in the forests section it is worth the effort for the 'helicopter' views of the town and the landscape beyond.

Although there are parts of this trail that are fairly urban, in its approximately 5 miles it does meander through woodland above the town, offering good views over the town to the Rockies.
I experienced plenty of elk, squirrels, and a variety of birds (but fortunately no bears!).
The trail is clearly marked and definitely worth using a spare 2-3 hours for anyone who may be hesitant, or not have time for, trekking further afield.

We strolled around the on the Jasper Discovery, a very gentle trail around the entire the town about 8km with lots of information points, great views and always the chance of seeing some wildlife.
Simply follow the Bear signs. You can do as much or as little as you want, there are always options to shorten the trail by dropping down into the town, so a trail that is suitable for all abilities and ages.

Very peaceful easy walk that takes you around the lovely fast flowing abathasca river. We saw an elk and lots of squirrels. Walked for approximately 2 hours. Nice way to end the day.
