Tulum has become synonymous with idyllic, tropical luxury — think sun-bleached beaches, crystal clear water, toes in the sand, and a drink from a freshly cut coconut. So it's no surprise this beachfront destination is one of Mexico's most popular, with a plethora of hotels to choose from.

But when you think of Tulum, the last thing that comes to mind is an all-inclusive resort, given that its reputation has long been boutique, earthy, and off-the-beaten-path. Still, believe it or not, Tulum and the surrounding area have quite a few all-inclusive resorts to choose from, each offering something a little different.

I've been covering Mexico since 2009, visiting hundreds of resorts in destinations all over the country. Whether you're looking for a family-friendly resort with amenities or a jungle-shrouded private villa retreat perched directly on a pristine beach, Tulum has an all-inclusive experience perfect for your next vacation.

Here are the best all-inclusive resorts in Tulum, depending on what vibe your next beachy getaway calls for.

Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • Families will love this resort for the kid-friendly activities, like a water park and climbing wall.

What to Consider
  • You'll need to splurge on Preferred Club to access some exclusive benefits.

A very pretty stretch of white-sand beach sets the scene for Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. The aesthetic here is evocative of a traditional hacienda, offering 432 rooms with colonial-style decor. Rooms are spacious and feature outdoor terraces or balconies.

We recommend upgrading to the Preferred Club for its access to the private lounge, personalized check-in, and a private Preferred Club beach area. Families are drawn to this resort thanks to its two pools, a robust kids club, and a comprehensive spa. Facilities include six restaurants and five bars, though guests do note that the food can be hit or miss.

Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • A stunning beach club offers lots of activities and a beautiful oceanfront pool.

What to Consider
  • The resort is not on the beach, but shuttles run frequently to take guests to the beach club.

Located in the quiet, residential Aldea Zama section of Tulum, the Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club is one of the high-end all-inclusive options in Tulum. The romantic adults-only resort is tucked back in jungle foliage for a forested aesthetic, but the resort is not located on the beach — a negative for many travelers who are looking for the powdery beaches of Tulum. However, frequent shuttles take guests to the dedicated beach club, arguably one of Tulum's best.

The resort has 300 suites and one luxury beachfront villa. All first-floor suites have swim-out pools, but guests can find four secluded courtyard pools around the property, two rooftop pools overlooking the jungle, and one oceanfront pool at the beach club. Ten dining options serve everything from lightly grilled cuisine to decadent steaks and seafood.

Kore Tulum Retreat & Spa Resort

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • This boutique all-inclusive resort has a dual-level infinity pool and a separate hot tub area.

What to Consider
  • The beach here can be pretty rocky, so guests prefer the pools.

With fewer than 100 rooms, this is one of the most intimately sized all-inclusive resorts you can book in Mexico — and that's just how guests of Kore Tulum like it. Kore sits right at the crossroads of the bustling Tulum town and the beachy Hotel Zone, making it ideally suited for visitors who want to explore a little bit of both.

Rooms are chic and modern, with high ceilings and separate living areas. The larger rooms are complete with hot tubs and outdoor spaces. The resort's focal point is the central pool: a bi-level infinity pool with plenty of chaise lounges for relaxing. Kore does boast a beachfront location, but the beach directly in front of the resort can be rocky. Wellness is one of the key pillars, and guests will find a beautiful wellness center with 10 treatment rooms and hydrotherapy facilities.

Playaakun

Also available to book at Tripadvisor.com.

What We Like
  • The intimate vibe of the resort makes guests feel like they’ve checked into their own private residence.

What to Consider
  • It is a very small boutique experience with no typical lengthy list of restaurants and bars.

Tulum may be busier than in the past, but if you want a taste of what old Tulum used to be, Playaakun delivers beautifully. Minimalist in design but with that quintessential boho-chic Tulum aesthetic, Playaakun is a collection of eco-luxury rooms perched right on the sand. The carbon-neutral property sits teetering on the edge of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve but within easy reach of the restaurants and activity of Tulum's Hotel Zone.

This all-inclusive luxury villa would be ideal for groups of friends or a family that want their own private retreat, as the villa can sleep up to 14 people. However, rooms can also be booked individually. The rate includes a personal concierge, housekeeper, security guard, and chef who will prepare three meals a day and two snacks for guests. The staff can also stock the villa's fridge before arrival or arrange for massages, tours, and shuttle services for an extra fee.

Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal

Pool area of Grand Bahia Tulum

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • The spacious pool deck, with multiple different pools, is a highlight of this resort.

What to Consider
  • While it operates as its own hotel, it is part of a massive resort complex with multiple other hotels.

Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal may be part of a sprawling four-resort complex, but this resort, in particular, is the crown jewel of the bunch. With a stellar beachfront location and decidedly luxe services and amenities, Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal is, without a doubt, worth the splurge if you're deciding between the other resorts within the compound.

Guests of this resort have the bonus of access to the other resorts' restaurants, activities, and amenities. These include the Riviera Maya Golf Club, an on-site cenote, a kids-only waterpark, and a live music section. The best feature here is the exclusive beachfront, with fine white sand and enviable views of the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The main dining area at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal is a sprawling buffet that is wow-worthy, while smaller a la carte restaurants serve international cuisines.

UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • Most rooms have a partial ocean view and a soaking tub on the terrace or swim-up access.

What to Consider
  • Restaurants require reservations.

UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya is one of Tulum's few all-inclusive, adults-only resorts, and it excels on every level. Forever one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts in the Mexican Caribbean, this hotel has a little bit of everything — for couples who want to steal away to the quiet sanctuaries of their sprawling suites and soak in their balcony bathtub, as well as couples who wish to sip strong margaritas poolside while a DJ keeps the party going.

Dining at UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya is impressive, to say the least, with delectably fresh poolside cuisine to fine dining experiences at their Mexican, Italian, steakhouse, and pan-Asian restaurants. Fitness fans will love the comprehensive gym, while wellness seekers can unplug at the spacious, sparkling spa. Plus, UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya sits on a tranquil stretch of beautiful beach with that eye-popping turquoise water quintessential to the Tulum experience.

Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort

Victor Elias/Hilton

Also available to book at Booking.com.

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • Thirteen different dining venues offer a ton of culinary variety.

What to Consider
  • Restaurants require reservations, and you need to book them in advance.

In 2022, Hilton welcomed its very first all-inclusive resort in Tulum — a bold move for a destination that typically draws a boutique crowd. But open they did, and with 735 rooms, it is the largest Hilton in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Guests check into a sprawling open-air lobby facing the Caribbean Sea's turquoise waters. The theme is undeniably framed under eco-chic, as is the reputation of Tulum's aesthetic. The color palette is all about earth tones, beiges, and whites, along with artwork sourced from local artists.

The resort is packed with juicy amenities, from the eight oceanfront pools to the massive gym and posh spa (located at the sister resort, Conrad Tulum). While the resort is family-friendly, adults should know that the Family Zone is at the far end of the resort, so couples looking for peace and quiet will feel safe, and families can feel free to let loose.

It's difficult for any large, all-inclusive resort to feel natural in a place like Tulum, but Hilton has managed to give their Tulum resort a distinct sense of place.

Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa

Also available to book at Hotels.com.

What We Like
  • A large selection of pools creates many different atmospheres, including two adults-only pools, a natural saltwater rock pool, and several hot tubs.

What to Consider
  • The property is massive and requires a shuttle service to get around.

Like other resorts in the surrounding area, Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa is one of a few in a mega Palladium complex. The 264-room resort is the second-smallest in the five-resort compound, allowing for heightened attention to detail and personalization for guests. Still, Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa guests have access to many of the restaurants and facilities at the other resorts on the property. The lobby of White Sand is spacious and open-air, surrounded by a lovely little lagoon.

Suites are bright and airy, and guests can choose from adults-only room blocks or family-friendly ones, which is a nice touch and adds a bit of separation. The Romance Bungalow by the Lake is the best room for couples. With access to restaurants at most other resorts, guests will be positively spoiled for choice when it comes to dining. Meanwhile, the Zentropia Palladium Spa & Wellness is one of the best in the area for its sauna, Turkish baths, health bar, and a lengthy list of treatments.

TRS Yucatan

Private plunge pool at TRS Yucatan

Also available to book at Tripadvisor.com.

What We Like
  • This is the adults-only, higher-end counterpart of the family-friendly Grand Palladium.

What to Consider
  • Guests have beach access, but the best beach is not in front of the resort.

Of all the Grand Palladium complex resorts, the TRS Yucatan Hotel jumps to the top of my list. The smallest and most luxurious of the five resorts, TRS Yucatan Hotel is reserved exclusively for adults. Moreover, guests have full access to the facilities and restaurants at the other hotels and resorts, but no other resorts can use their facilities, which keeps it extra exclusive.

The suites are the loveliest out of all the resorts. Junior and Royal Suites have two-person hot tubs on the balconies, while Mayan Suites overlook the lagoon and feature outdoor showers. All of the resorts in the complex have a stretch of sugary white sand. However, the section in front of TRS Yucatan is the rockiest, so beach lovers may have to take a shuttle to enjoy the best beach. That said, the free-form, two-tiered oceanfront pool at TRS Yucatan Hotel is a show-stopper.

Know Before You Go

Tulum is not known for its all-inclusive resorts.

For years, Tulum was the antithesis of an all-inclusive destination as visitors to Tulum preferred the eco-chic, bohemian, smaller boutique hotels. But times are changing, particularly with the new airport and the Tren Maya. All-inclusive hotels are going to follow. Currently, most all-inclusives in Tulum are outside Tulum proper — but within a 30-minute drive.

Brace yourself for wind.

While brilliantly beautiful, Tulum's beaches are some of the windiest in the Mexican Caribbean. This is excellent news for kitesurfers coming to Tulum for the ideal weather — but for beachgoers, this can sometimes mean strong gusts and choppy water.

Flying into the Tulum airport saves considerable time.

This year, the Tulum airport began accepting international flights, cutting travel time to hotels and attractions to an hour or less. Before this, travelers had to fly into Cancun, which could be more than a two-hour drive to most of the resorts around Tulum.

How We Chose These Hotels

Selecting the best all-inclusive resorts in Tulum can be challenging because it's a destination not typically known for its all-inclusive resorts. These hotels made the list because of the few in the area, these rank among the best in terms of location, service, and amenities. In addition to these internationally recognized properties, the author of this article, Meagan Drillinger, contributed her expertise. She has been covering Mexico since 2009, visiting hundreds of resorts in destinations nationwide. She focused on her personal experiences, which evaluated the quality of guest experience, design, amenities, and location. She has also pored over hundreds of hotel reviews to help decide which made the cut. As with all of our articles, we adhered to our Hotel Values when helping choose the best all-inclusive resorts in Tulum.
