It’s finally here. Time Out Market Barcelona has opened its doors on Barcelona’s Old Port, chefs are slinging out some serious dishes and the outdoor terraces are looking fabulous in the sunshine. What are you waiting for?

Time Out Market Barcelona showcases the cream of the city’s culinary scene all under one roof. After all, there’s a very vast array of food and drink options in Barcelona. From world-renowned high-end restaurants and cocktail bars to excellent, affordable tapas spots, our food scene is one of the things Barcelona is best known for. And now you can find the city’s finest food, all in one place.

From Catalan classics and rice dishes to haute cuisine, this gastronomic hub will also feature a comprehensive cultural program, with 14 kitchens, one full-service restaurant and four bars (two indoor and two outdoor), all curated by Time Out’s local editorial team.

Here’s everything you need to know about the market.

What is Time Out Market?

Ever read one of Time Out’s guides, like ‘The best restaurants in Barcelona’ or ‘the best bars’?

Time Out Market was conceived from these lists. We aimed to bring our dining guides to life, and the result is a very exciting culinary journey, as diverse as it is delicious.

The first Time Out Market was in Portugal: Time Out Market Lisbon opened in 2014 and has since become a fixture of the city.

Since then, we’ve opened markets in New York, Cape Town, Boston, Chicago, Dubai, Montreal, and, in May 2024, Porto. Now, it’s Barcelona’s turn.

Where is Time Out Market Barcelona located?

Time Out Market Barcelona is situated at Port Vell (Barcelona’s historic port), specifically on the upper floors of the Maremagnum shopping centre. It’s directly accessible from the street via escalators and a lift.

The venue covers an enormous 5,250 square meters and features two terraces with 360° views of the sea, the port, and the city.

What will I find at the Market?

The market features 14 kitchens, one full-service restaurant and four bars (two indoors and two outdoors). Each kitchen has been meticulously selected by Time Out Barcelona’s editorial team, and all have received at least a four-star rating from our critics.

Offerings range from street food favourites to Michelin-starred dishes, all prepared by local chefs and restaurants.

Beyond the restaurants and bars, the space will also host events and live performances. There’s also a podcasting studio, but you’ll have to wait and see what we’ve got in store for that.

What’s the vibe?

At Time Out Market Barcelona, large, communal tables are designed to enable sampling from all 14 kitchens in a single meal, served with proper crockery and cutlery. Fancy proper table service? No problem. Head to Casa Amàlia, the Market’s standalone restaurant with its own dedicated tables and service.

Which chefs and restaurants will be there?

Where do we begin? There’s 14 restaurants and four bars at the market, cheffing up everything from fine dining to classic tapas. From chefs with two Michelin stars to a world-renowned cocktail bar, and sushi, burgers, pizza and tacos, the Market has it all. You can find the full list with all the details down below. We hope you’re hungry!

He and his brother Joaquim opened Xerta in Barcelona in 2006, where he earned his second Michelin star in 2016. At the heart of Monster Sushi are many years of training in Japan, California and Barcelona. By combining local ingredients with refined Japanese techniques, Monster Sushi offers an explosion of flavours and textures in an extensive menu. To start, there are hot dishes, where the yakisoba stands out as some of the best you can eat in the city, available as vegetarian with prawns or chicken, or with tender and succulent strips of beef tenderloin. There’s also a bluefin Balfegó tuna tataki if you want to start strong.

  • Mexican
  • El Gòtic

Xuba Tacos is one of the best taquerias in Barcelona, and no wonder – it’s the project of two-Michelin star chef Antonio Sáez, along with his Mexican friend and partner Raúl Salcido, and is a dedicated, authentic celebration of their love for Mexican cuisine. ‘Xuba’ translates to corn in the Zapotec indigenous language and the menu magnifies the essence of this legendary street food, featuring classic takes like tacos al pastor or cochinita pibil, and original creations like the taco de solomillo rossini, with beef tenderloin, grilled foie gras, and truffle sauce. They use blue corn tortillas – neutral in flavour to enhance high-quality ingredients – filled with sumptuous slow-cooked fillings.

Inaugurated in 1899, Casa Guinart reinvented itself a few years back and is now one of the reference points for Catalan cuisine in the city. Located between La Rambla and the Boqueria Market, this spot is very popular with everyone from market vendors to locals and tourists. David Moya, together with chef Ã’scar Manresa, a great connoisseur of the Boqueria, brings his best products and unique vision of Catalan cuisine to the Market.

Their excellent presentation, with perfect precision and a great harmony of flavours, sets La Real Hamburguesería apart from those trendy oversized burgers that simply stack ingredients. Nuri and her husband Jordi opened Bar Núria in Poblenou back in 1962, after learning to cook the recipes from her mother and grandmother. More than 60 years and three generations later, the Nuri family reopened Bar Nuri on the Rambla de Poblenou in 2022, and within four days they became the neighbourhood's favourite local spot – and we’re hardly surprised. At Nuri you’ll find all the iconic, traditional tapas you expect from your local bar – what they call ‘flagship tapas’ – cooked with the house’s signature skills: top-tier croquettes, fresh and well-fried Andalusian-style calamari and Russian salad prepared just right. You’ll want to try it all.
