We purchased the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle so our reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for the full product review.

Gooseneck kettles are beloved by pour-over coffee fans for their ability to control the flow of water. These types of kettles are not only great for coffee lovers, but they're also appealing to tea drinkers because of their stylish design and convenient features that make the simple task of heating water all the more enjoyable. I tested the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle and evaluated its design, ease of use, price, setup, and extra features. Read on to see what I thought.

Design: Sleek and intuitive

Though the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle is small in size (12.2 x 9.3 x 7.8 inches), it boasts a sleek design. The kettle, lid, and base are all black with a matte finish (excluding the buttons). I found that the solid color choice was simple, yet sophisticated. The buttons located on the electric base are silver with white text above them. Each button corresponds to one of five temperature presets: green tea, oolong tea, black tea, coffee, and boil. I found that this layout was easy to read, which made using the kettle equally as easy. When the kettle is on, the buttons will illuminate with a blue light, which I found to be aesthetically pleasing.

There's a max fill line engraved on the inside of the kettle. A bonus with this is that the engraving is also visible from the exterior of the kettle, although it does read backward from this view. I liked this feature, intentional or not because I could easily find the label marker. Sometimes, looking for the max line on the inside of the kettle can be quite difficult to find.

The Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle is a great buy, especially for those who love to make tea.

The Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle is designed with a few extra features that make this kettle more enjoyable to use. The non-slip handle is comfortable to hold and doesn’t take on the heat of the kettle. There's also a spot for the user’s thumb to rest at the top of the handle. Another clever feature is the cord storage area, which is located at the bottom of the base. I really liked that I could hide the ugly cord when it wasn’t in use.

Material: 100-percent stainless steel construction

The Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle is made of 100 percent food-grade stainless steel. This includes the kettle’s housing, lid, and spout. I found that overall, the kettle felt sturdy and well-made with this construction.

One downside is that the kettle does get rather hot because there's no insulation on the kettle’s surface. I had to be careful not to touch the housing or lid when in use since the kettle gets dangerously hot.

Setup: Quick and easy

To get started with the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle, I added water (up to the max line) and brought it to a boil. I discarded the heated water and rinsed out the kettle’s interior a few times. It was then ready to be used as normal.

To use the kettle, I added water. I put the lid on and placed it on the electric base. I turned the kettle on with the “on/off” button and selected a temperature. The kettle will immediately start to heat the water. Once it has reached the set temperature, it will beep three times to indicate that it's done. If the hold button (located on the front panel) has been pressed, the kettle will maintain the set temperature for up to one hour.

Performance: Easy to use, best for tea

This electric kettle excels in heating water quickly. It only took about four to five minutes for it to boil water when filled to the max capacity. One downside is that it has a low water capacity of about 27 ounces. However, I only live in a two-person household, so it worked fine for me.

Each button corresponds to one of five temperature presets: green tea, oolong tea, black tea, coffee, and boil. I found that this layout was easy to read, which made using the kettle equally as easy.

In testing the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle, I used it to make pour-over coffee and tea. I quickly discovered that this kettle isn’t the best for pour-over coffee. Though the gooseneck pour spout was much better than using a normal tea kettle for making pour-over coffee, I felt that the gooseneck lacked total control. As a result, I had a hard time pouring the water out evenly over the grounds and found that the water would flow out way too quickly. Due to the spout issue, I ended up not using this kettle for pour-over coffee after trying it several times.

As mentioned above, I also used this kettle to make tea. I found that it worked best for this purpose. The buttons on the base correspond to three different tea temperature settings. Having the buttons labeled with the tea type’s ideal temperature was a lovely convenience. I also liked the hold setting, so that I could keep the water hot if I wanted to make additional cups of tea for up to an hour. Also, the gooseneck pour spout was not a problem when making tea. I actually liked that the water poured out quickly from the spout.

Cleaning: Just wipe and dry

Taking care of the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle is low maintenance. All it requires is a wipe down with a damp cloth both on the inside and outside of the kettle after use. It should also be dried by hand. If the kettle is used frequently, it should undergo a descaling weekly—a process which is detailed in the manufacturer’s user manual

Price: Reasonable

The Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle retails for around $70, which is a fair price considering its sleek design, temperature presets, quick heating capabilities, and hold function.

CosoriI Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle vs. Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Kettle

Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Kettle: The Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Kettle is very similar to the Cosori in terms of aesthetic and material makeup. Both have a gooseneck pour spout, are small in size, and are made of stainless steel. The main difference between the two is that the Fellow is designed with several more convenient features that make it better for making pour-over coffee. It has the ability to control the water’s temperature to single-degree digits. It also has a stopwatch and an incredibly precise pour spout, allowing for ultimate control when pouring water for pour-over coffee.

Ultimately, it comes down to what type of beverage you plan on using your kettle for most often. For the tea drinker and occasional coffee drinker, the Cosori has many of the same features that the Fellow has at a lower price (the Fellow retails around $149). However, for the pour-over coffee fan, the Fellow has features specifically designed for making excellent pour-over coffee.

Final Verdict

A great kettle for tea lovers.

Besides its elegant design, the Cosori Original Electric Gooseneck Kettle offers a number of convenient features that make it easy to use and excellent for making tea.
