What really happened to Zac Efron's face as he faces plastic surgery rumors
Over the years, fans have taken notice of Zac's dramatic face transformation as he has continued to face plastic surgery allegations.
As the Hollywood hunk's changing looks became a hot topic, the actor finally put the rumors to rest as he revealed that he never had cosmetic surgery done but was recovering from a nasty fall that impacted his jaw. In an interview with Men's Health in 2022, Zac revealed that his face shape changed after he took a painful tumble in his home.
As he was sliding around his house in his socks, the actor accidentally slipped and fell, smacking his face against the granite corner of a fountain. After the incident, Zac was knocked out cold. When he came back to consciousness, he explained that "his chin bone was hanging off his face."
After the jaw injury, Zac began physical therapy with a specialist to keep the muscles of his face and jaw from overcompensating. But his face became very swollen after his "masseters" doubled in size when he took a break. Zac explained that the muscles "got really, really big" which was when many took notice and sparked the plastic surgery rumors.

After snaps of him circulated on social media, many were curious if he had gone under a knife and admitted that even his own mom called to check in. After clarifying that it was solely because of the jaw injury, Zac explained that he took a hiatus from social media to stay away from hurtful comments regarding his looks. In the interview, he said: "If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do I definitely wouldn't be able to do this work."
Recently, the 36-year-old actor shared a behind-the-scenes clip from the movie, dozens of fans took to the comments raising concerns over the star's changed appearance. One user wrote: "WTF !!!! What happened to your face Zac," While another said: "Plastic surgery and aging .. oh but smoking probably. They can’t fool us." And a third added: "Why do you look like exactly Kyle Jenner? Only your mouth moves."
But others came to his defense, with one fan writing: "The world is so full of hatred now. He's still gorgeous and last I checked, it matters on what's on the inside, not the outside. We all feel the stress of looking older, only Zac has millions of people watching him age. Good lord people, do better. Be better."
