Families in poverty face a real challenge

Paying for austerity | Spike Milligan | BBC’s tune | Tennis togs | Eco-warriors

It might be more illuminating if you feature three families for whom a day not spending anything is not a challenge (‘I must have saved at least £100!’, 2 July), but a necessity. There are plenty of them to choose from after 14 years of Tory austerity. Or get your three writers to exist for a week on items from their local food bank.

An example of Milliganesque behaviour (Letters, 2 July) is if a boy writes to you to ask for a singed photograph, and you burn the edges, sign it and send it back, apologising that it got accidentally signed.

The BBC theme “song” was not played at Glastonbury as your report claimed in the version in your print edition (3 July), because it’s not a song. There are no vocals.

When will the men get a chance to comment on their tennis togs, please (Female tennis stars push boundaries with outfits at Wimbledon, 3 July)? It is, after all, the 21st century.

“Eco-warrior” equals “saboteur” (Quick crossword, 3 July)? Really? Who is compiling this stuff?
Ann Jay
Bangor Teifi, Ceredigion

Perhaps, as a clue for “saboteur”, you could have had: “Person who recklessly trashes the economy in pursuit of a narrow political agenda.”

Ashburton, Devon
