I'm proud to say I sure didn't vote for ANY of this, but the parallels are there. The one big difference is that in the movie they found a good and decent person to substitute for the incapacitated president. In our present catastrophe there is nothing but worse and worser in the cabal wielding presidential power, a group of people who set out in 2009 to "fundamentally transform" the United States of America into a hellscape that even George Orwell couldn't have imagined. Biden's incapacity has simply lent urgency to their rampage of destruction.
The only faint hope is that the Democrats' current panic suggests that they are not entirely confident that this time they will be able to cheat enough to magically win in November.

In the movie, evil Republicans were being thwarted. Here it's the other guys. Maybe they have it coming, after trying to litigate their way to re-election. I'm comforted that their strategy has largely failed.
I forgot about "Dave"! Terrific movie. Perfect? No. Oversimplified? Yes. Really funny? You bet. Completely horrifying now that it has sprung to life? Yep. Yep yep yep.
If only we had a VP with the character of Ben Kingsley's Vice-President Nance. Alas...
The huge difference between Biden and Dave-the-Doppleganger is that Biden is going out there as the real Biden and the press STILL played along—until they finally couldn't.
We watched "Dave" last night. The Frank Langella character (Bob Alexander) makes the point for us 30+ years later. Charles Colson made the point in his book Born Again that the circle of deceit will break apart as soon as one or more sense serious threat to themselves. (BTW Colson saw a connection to the refusal to recant of Jesus' disciples. Their willingness to die to stand for the truth.)
In Dave, other characters were not willing to go down with the Frank Langella ship... and the ship was saved. Now, in our time, Individual "threat assessments" are being made in the D.C. quagmire. We'll see what happens.
After all the criticism that the mainstream media is just a Democrat propaganda outlet, I find it refreshing that they're now admitting the President is a figurehead and all the decisions are taken by a shadow group of Deep State operatives.
Either an elected president with advanced dementia or a bunch of unknown but super-capable staffers running the country. Nothing but good choices for the American people.
The irony of Dave is that the plot includes the stand-in president's wonky accountant (played by the sublime Charles Grodin) paring back federal expenditures, a la Trump-supporter Vivek Ramaswamy. Somehow, I don't see that happening in this sequel.

My mom loves that movie. The way Jill treats Joe reminds me of another movie. “Any Given Sunday”. Dennis Quaid plays an aging quarterback that gets injured playing football. After rehab and returning to the field, he’s so traumatized that he wants to quit. His wife is having none of that. She is so used to her lifestyle and the status that she has, because of him, that she slaps the piss out of him and gives him a stern ultimatum. I can picture “Dr.” Jill doing the same thing to Joe.
I saw that movie when it came out, thought it was silly, and harmless at the time. Then I watched clips from Biden's debate and thought immediately of "Dave," as a chill ran down my spine.
There’s so much hand ringing going on about the possibility of another Trump presidency. I don’t like the guy either but I think our forefathers would be shocked that their idea of limited executive power is being interpreted as no executive power. And if the president isn’t actually capable of doing much without congress, well then Trump can just blow all the hot air he wants, right? It goes both ways.
We’ve held on for 250 years with good presidents, mediocre presidents and bad presidents. It’s not pretty right now but we will get through this.
The 2024 Trump derangement syndrome is causing liberals to believe the sky will actually fall this time. So now they’re willing to prop it up will with an old man who wanders off in front of world leaders? He will have to actually show his face at some point.
