Dease assisted Sir John FRANKLIN on his second land expedition to the Arctic. Between 1837 and 1839 Dease and Thomas Simpson made 3 expeditions along the Arctic coast, leaving only a small part of the NORTHWEST PASSAGE unsurveyed. Dease retired to a farm near Montréal in 1841.
