Women steal dogs from Loranger home

The puppies were on their leashes last month in Loranger, getting a bathroom break in the backyard when two strangers slipped inside and stole them, authorities said.

Those accused puppy thieves were caught on home surveillance video, however, and turned themselves in on Thursday, Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputies said.

Sarah Folse, 31, and Deanna Witten, 52, both of Amite, were each booked into the parish jail on single counts of felony theft and trespassing, deputies said.

But the puppies, three German shepherds, remain missing, deputies said.

Ashley Rodrigue, spokeswoman for the Tangipahoa sheriff's office, said that the owner of the animals had been raising and selling the dogs for $350 each.

Two of the stolen animals already had deposits on them, she said.

Deputies said the thefts happened on June 22 at a home in the 17000 block of La. 40 in the Loranger area.

The two suspects drove up the home's driveway in a white vehicle and later left with the puppies, deputies said.

Since their arrest, Folse and Witten have not given detectives a motive for the alleged puppy theft or where the dogs might be, Rodrigue said.

Sheriff's detectives still need the public’s help to find the dogs, deputies said.

Sheriff Gerald Sticker encourages anyone with information about the location of the puppies to contact the Criminal Investigations Office at (985) 748-3335.
