Clay, N.Y. — A man has been charged Friday with killing a woman in a hit-and-run in the town of Clay.

Authorities say after the vehicle hit the pedestrian Thursday night the man drove off and got into a second crash about a mile away on the same road. The woman’s body was discovered about seven hours later Friday morning.

Joshua Schiano, 23, of Clay, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal vehicle accident, Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, said Friday night.

Schiano is accused of driving a vehicle that hit the woman who was walking south on the shoulder of Oswego Road around 10:40 p.m. Thursday. The woman was hit near the Seneca Savings branch at 7799 Oswego Road.

The woman was identified as Madison Faltisco, 22, of Liverpool. Her body wasn’t discovered until 5 a.m. Friday. A 911 caller reported seeing an unconscious woman near the road.

About five minutes after the hit-and-run, officials said Schiano was involved in a crash at a Salvation Army thrift store about a mile south on the same road.

After that crash, a caller to the Onondaga County 911 Center reported a driver, possibly drunk, had struck poles holding up the thrift store’s sign around 10:45 p.m. Thursday at 7595 Oswego Road.

Ambulance crews reported the driver was disoriented when they arrived, according to dispatches. Deputies later said Schiano was taken to a hospital but he did not have serious injuries.

Faltisco, of Liverpool, graduated from the Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central in 2018, according to Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard archives.

Schiano was arraigned Friday night. A judge set bail at $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash, according to jail records.

Editors note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the crashes occurred at 10:20 p.m. and 10:25 p.m.
