After an utterly dominant campaign last year, Max Verstappen picked up where he left off as he claimed victory in Bahrain to kickstart the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Jeddah then saw Verstappen qualify in pole position for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and largely dominated from start to finish despite a brief spell in first for Lando Norris behind a safety car. Sergio Perez secured second after an early battle with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

There was a shake-up in Melbourne, though, with Verstappen and Hamilton retiring early. Sainz went on to win, securing a Ferrari one-two alongside Charles Leclerc. Norris rounded out the podium.

However, Verstappen returned to the top of the podium in Japan, winning from pole for the 30th time in his career, before claiming back-to-back wins in China.

Looking for a third-straight win of the season, Verstappen couldn't continue his dominance as he was beaten by Norris in Miami when the McLaren driver won his first Formula One race of his career. Then, at Monaco, Charles Leclerc finally tasted victory at his home grand prix, closing the gap at the top of the drivers' standings.

Verstappen got back to winning ways in Canada, while there were also positive signs for Mercedes in that race, as they claimed the first podium of the year.

The Dutchman appeared on track for another victory, but a late collision with Norris saw George Russell win his first race of the season and the second of his F1 career.

Lewis Hamilton then went and won the Silverstone Grand Prix as he pipped Verstappen and Norris in the versatile conditions and his first win since the penultimate race of the 2021 season.

Oscar Piastri became the newest F1 race winner, securing his debut victory in Hungary, finishing ahead of his teammate in controversial circumstances.

The Sporting News will keep you updated this season with the standings for both the Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships.
