Spain vs. France final score: Euro 2024 semifinal result as Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo fire La Roja into final

Spain reached the 2024 European Championship final as they eliminated Kylian Mbappe's France with a 2-1 semifinal victory.

Sixteen-year-old Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo found the back of the net within four minutes and nine seconds of each other to take the lead after initially falling behind early.

The match began with France on the front foot and it didn't take long for them to break the deadlock. In the eighth minute, Randal Kolo Muani scored the fastest goal in the knockout stages of the tournament, with Mbappe providing the assist from the left.

Mbappe picked him out well at the far post and the Paris Saint-Germain attacker headed past Unai Simon with ease. It was Kolo Muani's first goal at the tournament and his fifth goal for France, four of which have come in games he's started. He was named in the lineup ahead of Antoine Griezmann, a decision by Didier Deschamps that raised eyebrows ahead of kickoff but was soon justified. It was France's 87th non-penalty attempt at goal and finally resulted in their first goal from open play in the tournament.

Spain responded perfectly and they were back level thanks to an incredible strike from Lamine Yamal, assisted by Alvaro Morata. His long-distance effort made the Barcelona forward the youngest-ever goal scorer at a major international tournament, breaking the previous record held by Brazil's Pele since the 1958 World Cup.

Olmo's individual brilliance then saw Spain take the lead as he took one touch to beat Aurelien Tchouameni, another to set himself and then fired an attempt goalwards. Jules Kounde could only get a foot to it on the line but ended up putting it into the back of his own net. The shot was on target and therefore the goal was awarded to Olmo rather than it going down as an own goal.

France had opportunities to level the score in the second half but their best fell to the wrong man as Theo Hernandez hooked an effort over the bar. Deschamps made tactical changes as he brought Griezmann on and Mbappe moved to the central striker role as Muani was replaced by Bradley Barcola. It proved in vain.

57 mins: A change for Spain as Navas appears to have an injury and is replaced by Dani Vivian. Nacho moves over to right-back to deal with Mbappe. 

49 mins: Well that was close! Maignan comes racing out to win the ball and he does but it may have come at a cost as he's clutching his hamstring.

40 mins: France have a free-kick but it's blocked by the wall and Spain clear. They go up the other end and earn themselves a corner but it's a poor one. 

36 mins: Hernandez is the latest to bring down Lamine Yamal and the Spanish players weren't too happy about it. 

30 mins: Confidence is flowing through Spain's attack now as this time it's Nico Williams who dribbles into the box before laying it off to Morata but he gets the ball stuck under his feet. 

25 mins: GOALLLLL! Spain lead! Olmo takes a sublime touch past Tchouameni and rockets it goalwards and Kounde knocks it into his own goal. It may have been going in either way.

9 mins: GOALLLLL! France lead! It's Mbappe who lifts the cross in from the left and picks out Muani who has a free header into the back of the net.

7 mins: Mbappe is picked out in behind but Navas recovers brilliantly and clears the danger. You get the feeling he's going to be busy this evening, the Spaniard. 

3 mins: Mask off. Mbappe ditches the protection for the first time since he suffered the injury.

45 mins before kickoff: The biggest surprise has to be Griezmann's exclusion from the starting lineup as it’s the first time since the 2014 World Cup he has not started a knockout game for France. Sure, he may not have had the impact he'd have hoped for but it's a big call to leave a guy with 134 caps on the bench. 

1 hour before kickoff: Team news is in! Spain make three changes: Navas and Nacho replace the suspended Carvajal and Le Normand, and Olmo takes Pedri’s place as he's out injured. Olmo’s form has been promising, but Navas, nearly 39, faces a tough test against Kylian Mbappe. 

France make changes up top once again as Antoine Griezmann is the latest to miss out and is replaced by Randal Kolo Muani.

This Euro 2024 semifinal kicks off from the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, July 9 at 9 p.m. local time in Munich.

After overturning a 1-0 deficit to defeat resilient Georgia in the Round of 16, Group B winners Spain fielded an unchanged side to take on Germany, with Nacho Fernandez and Ayoze Perez both fit for the bench after returning from respective knocks. But head coach Luis de La Fuente finds his options more limited for this semifinal.

Pedri is expected to miss the remainder of the tournament after hobbling off in Stuttgart after being on the receiving end of a strong tackle from Toni Kroos. RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo stepped in for the Barcelona playmaker and does so again following his crucial goal and assist against the Germans.

However, Spain also face challenges at the back, with two starting defenders, Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand, out due to suspension.

Le Normand, banned for yellow-card accumulation after being booked in the first half against Germany, was substituted for Nacho in that game, who starts next to Aymeric Laporte. 38-year-old Jesus Navas has been handed a start at right-back in place of the suspended Carvajal, who was sent off in the dying moments against Germany. 

It was thought that Alvaro Morata would be suspended after apparently being booked while celebrating Merino's winner against Germany, but UEFA later confirmed the Spain captain was not shown a yellow card, so he is free to play in the semifinal and starts with Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.

Deschamps has a strong defensive unit that doesn't need any tinkering, but France's problem has been at the other end of the pitch in this tournament.

While Kylian Mbappe might have come off late against Portugal last weekend after suffering from fatigue following his short spell out with a broken nose, Real Madrid's new superstar will spearhead Les Bleus' attack in Munich and look to notch a second goal at the European Championship.

The other attackers have all shown flashes of brilliance during games but they have lacked that clinical edge at clutch moments. Ousmane Dembele starts after a great performance off the bench against Portugal.

After serving his suspension, Adrien Rabiot comes back into the engine room alongside Aurelien Tchouameni, with Eduardo Camavinga sat on the bench. Forming what has been a rock-solid partnership at the back, Arsenal defensive sensation William Saliba will partner Bayern Munich's Dayot Upamecano.
