There are two types of tuition fees: statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees.
What type of tuition fees do I have to pay?
You are eligible for the statutory tuition fees if you:
- Have the Dutch nationality, or are a national of another EU/EEA country, Switzerland or Suriname. Or you hold an eligible Dutch residence permit.
- Do not yet hold a Dutch Bachelor’s degree when enrolling in a Bachelor’s programme, or you do not yet hold a Dutch Master’s degree when enrolling in a Master’s programme.
If you do not meet both criteria, you will be charged the institutional tuition fees. Exceptions apply in three cases:
- You already hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree but are enrolling in a degree programme in a healthcare or education field for the first time.
- You started a second degree programme while still enrolled in the first, and are pursuing this second programme without interruption. Please find more information below.
- You are a non-EU/EEA student and you receive a UAF grant (for refugee students in the Netherlands).
If you’re enrolled in a pre-Master’s programme, you will not pay tuition fees; instead, you will need to pay a fee per study credit (ECTS).
Statutory tuition fees amount
Most students pay statutory tuition fees, which are set each year by the government and are the same for all government-funded higher education programmes in the Netherlands.
The statutory tuition fees for the 2023 - 2024 academic year are € 2,314 for a full-time study programme. When you first enrol in your Bachelor’s programme, you only need to pay half of the tuition fees for the first year. The academic year 2023 - 2024 is the last academic year for which this is the case.
The statutory tuition fees for the 2024 - 2025 academic year are € 2,530 for a full-time study programme.
Institutional tuition fees amount
The institutional tuition fees differ per programme. You can find the fees on each study programme page. Find your Bachelor’s or Master’s.
Exception for extra courses or a second study programme
During a Bachelor's or Master's programme, you’re free to take courses from another programme. Or do a complete second programme alongside. In that case, you only have to pay statutory tuition fees for your first Bachelor's or Master's programme, provided you hold no degree yet. After you have started your second study programme, you can still graduate for your first study programme. If you have started your second programme during your first programme and are following this second programme without interruption to your enrolment, you will only pay the statutory tuition fees.
Please note that specialisations can be part of the same Bachelor's or Master's programme as your first programme. Specialisations belonging to the same Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme as your first programme do not count as two different degree programmes. In this case, if you complete one programme and continue with the other, you pay the (higher) institutional tuition fees. You can check whether this applies to your study programmes by contacting your study advisor or the Central Student Desk.
Radboud University also makes an exception for Radboud University students who want to take a second Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Radboud University immediately after they have finished their first study programme. In this case, the institutional tuition fees that you officially need to pay for your second study programme are lowered to exactly the same amount as the statutory tuition fees. Please note: to this end, you will need to be continuously registered at the university. If you withdraw from a study programme before the end of the academic year, you will be required to pay the full amount of institutional tuition fees when you register again.
