Absorbing as this is, Planet Earth II chases viewers as assiduously and expertly as it chases the fauna, rewarding you with sharable stories rather than lingering lessons.

Believe us when we say that it's so beautiful it actually made us weep a little bit - and not just that, but it is genuinely thrilling, eye-opening and better than most of the action movies released this year.

It's gorgeous to look at, and you sit there in awe, marveling at how, exactly, those images can even exist. But it's more than just eye candy: The show's relationship with time gives viewers emotional stakes.
