Lawyer Carl (Paul Reiser) was there until past closing. Detective Dehling (John Goodman) got there once McCool's became a crime scene. Was it the dead body that tied these men together? Not as tightly as the live wire who was also there that night: the stunning young woman aptly named Jewel (Liv Tyler). A steamy story told from three very different points of view that ultimately become one. Read More Read Less

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Critics say this blend of film noir and screwball comedy seems to think itself more clever and hip than it actually is. Also, the crucial femme fatale role needs a better, more mature actress than Tyler.

Steve D Great cast and nothing else. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review ron m such a great movie, so funny. absolutely scarce. i don't understand why was it a box office fail Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/23 Full Review kevin c Liv Tyler plays the girl that everyone is dying to have in this dark comedy as she uses the men in her life to get exactly what she wants. Matt Dillon, Paul Reiser and John Goodman play the very different men that have fallen under her spell. Tyler is appropriately desirable in this. Michael Douglas is great in the small role he plays as well. Fun, sexy dark crime thriller. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review angel r Great movie, very funy and Liv looks so beautiful. Very underrated movie, it's pretty good! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review josé pedro m I found it enjoyable. I don't know if I should have felt that... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jordan m There were 3 main takeaways I got from this movie: 1) there's no replacing good, name-brand actors when it comes to improving a movie, and 2) this is what Whipped from the year prior could've been with a much, much better screenplay, and 3) comedies with a joke per minute are not always better than movies that build the entire movie toward a very funny third act. The music was excellent and I loved the cast. I would've preferred a little more comedy in the first half of the movie as it ended up feeling like a ton of exposition when I went into it expecting humor, but it ended up building toward the end very, very well.
