Our testing philosophy
We strive to follow the scientific method as closely as possible in our reviewing and testing. This includes extensive documentation, reducing variables, and gathering measurable evidence using objectives repeatable procedures.
As time passes, technology advances, and new reviewers join our team, our labs and processes remain consistent.
Transparency and equal access to information are important. Our open-door policy allows brands to visit and ask questions about our processes. But we'll never share info with brands that we don't share with our readers.
The Reviewed Lab
Based in the heart of Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Reviewed labs are some of the finest you'll find in any editorial organization. Here, we're able to trap light, isolate sound, and control ambient temperature and humidity. Did you know that when we test vacuums we make our own dirt to ensure the right granularity? We're that kind of serious.
Awards
Reviewed’s staff of scientists and experts test hundreds of products every year, and we’ve been doing so since 1997. After using, reviewing, and judging these products, we honor our favorites by crowning them with one of several prestigious awards in our portfolio. Not only do these awards indicate that these products are special (while recognizing that there’s no such thing as a "perfect product" for everyone), but they instill trust between consumers and the Reviewed brand.
Editors' Choice
Editor’s Choice awards are given to products we test that are the top performing in their categories, excel in their class, and offer consumers the best value on the market. When friends and family ask us for recommendations, the Editors’ Choice winners shortlist is our go-to.

Our Recommended awards are earned by consumer products that perform well and offer great value, despite a flaw or two. Performance and user experience rate high, and consumers will be happy with their investment.

Reviewed Best of Year awards pay homage to the absolute top-performing tested product in any given product category during a calendar year. The winning products have been assessed by experts, our chief scientist, and our editors—they are truly the best of the best in every category we cover.
Sustainability Award
These awards are given annually to eco-conscious brands that put sustainability at the forefront of their missions, whether through manufacturing or resource efficiencies. Remember, we test these brands in a lab to get real data that our scientist assesses. We don’t get fooled by greenwashing.
