I specialise in working with elderly patients and patients impacted by addiction specifically adult children of alcoholics.
Hi, welcome to my therapy profile! I completely get how nerve-wracking it can be to open up to someone new, especially a therapist. I also know the relief that comes when you connect with someone who understands. I believe people have the ability to make changes, my goal is to create an environment where you can feel heard, supported, explore your inner-world and make changes to live a more fulfilling life. I use a variety of therapeutic interventions rooted in Psychodynamic therapy, which emphasises exploring early relationships and experiences and making connections with patterns and behaviours in your life today.

In addition to treating individuals, I currently run a high-functioning, older adult psychotherapy group.
It is my responsibility to provide an environment where my patients feel comfortable so that I can figure out what they need to get better and together we can understand what gets in the way. Patients who have been in therapy with other therapists often tell me that they find our work together to be more helpful. They find that I am a good listener and therefore I respond in ways that patients find meaningful.

Much of my work is with mature adults as they face growing older.
When life feels difficult, talking to a friend or loved one may be helpful. But when life starts to feel overwhelming, or even senseless, talking to a sensitive, caring professional who is trained to listen and knows what to listen for can help understand our feelings and how to deal with them. I have years of experience with illness, loss and the need to find purpose. My emphasis is on two-way communication, not just through words, but through feelings and actions. I will work with you to help you gain insight into yourself and others, and live as satisfying and productive a life as possible--I know it's not easy.

I have over 30 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults and the elderly incorporating a combination of CBT and mindful techniques in order to help navigate through all aspects of life. My role as therapist is to help facilitate in the journey, perhaps beginning with a neuropsychological evaluation to help determine cognitive function, implement an individually based treatment plan to gain better understanding of and influence navigating the bumps in the road, and gain a better understanding of life's issues.

The goal in therapy is to become the best version of yourself. My clinical specialties include working with adult and older adult clients with anxiety, depression, intergenerational trauma, grief and loss, anger and stress management, relationship stress, and support for caregivers of loved ones with dementia. Our mind and body have a fascinating connection, and we would explore methods of healing from a number of techniques that pull from Western and Eastern medicine. Additionally, I am passionate about exploring and treating unique stressors associated with late-life to promote positive aging in our community.

Many times these symptoms are a result of difficult relationships both personal and professional, life changes resulting from job and career issues, marriage, divorce, birth, death, adult child estrangement and caring for the elderly.
For over 25 years I have helped individuals and couples resolve their problems resulting in leading more satisfying lives. As a certified psychotherapist/psychoanalyst , with a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology my treatment approach is psychodynamic. My ideal patient is one who desires a change in their own lives as well as how they relate to others. Often as a result of therapy I have seen individuals internalize their treatment by remembering what was said. Many leave with a sense of mastery and accomplishment in coping with adversity. As a member of psychotherapy and psychoanalytical institutes I train others in the field.

If you're affected by daily stresses of life, significant issues related to depression, anxiety or interpersonal relationships, I am a New York licensed psychologist and certified psychoanalyst that will help you resolve these problems. Clients gain insight into what's troubling them so that they can manage their issues more effectively. I work in an intimate setting, situated in a comfortable environment overlooking a private garden. It is a safe and confidential space. I work with people who are having difficulty developing and or maintaining significant relationships, experiencing depression, anxiety, low self esteem, feelings of being unlovable, or "just getting by" rather than thriving.

I see adolescents, adults, elderly, LGBTQ clients and couples.
Do you feel undeserving of your best life? Or carry a burden of shame from abuse as a child, and need help learning to love yourself? Therapy provides a healing path, and I will walk it with you. As kids we learn reading and math yet not how to handle troubling feelings of fear, sadness, anger, and shame. Psychotherapy teaches you how to love yourself. Relief comes as you drop harsh self-judgments that block moving from where you are now to where you want to be. You learn to discriminate between destructive self-criticism and positive self-correction.

I work with men and women ranging from adolescents to older adults facing issues including relationship struggles, identity exploration, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.
My goal in therapy is to help you have more satisfying and effective relationships, find a greater sense of stability and empowerment, and discover a greater sense of meaning to your life. Though the work sometimes takes great courage, requires significant hope, commitment, and strength, in my experience it’s well worth it. From the start, I work towards establishing a trusting relationship, communicating clearly and collaborating with you to make sure you are getting what you need.

I offer therapy for individuals, couples and elderly.
I approach therapy with the understanding that our mind and body are not separated but aspects of a unified whole. Our emotions and life history are held and manifest in the body and change begins when we acknowledge and work with our full being. Through a process that goes beyond talk, I help my clients bring attention to how their concerns effect how they breathe, feel, move, think and express themselves, as I support them in gradually exploring the underlying emotional terrain.

Geriatric and Seniors Therapists

Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?

Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, dementia, and physical mobility challenges.

How can geriatric therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?

Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

How is counseling for elderly different from counseling for other age groups?

Many aspects of geriatric counseling are similar to counseling in younger age groups; in general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. However, therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

Can geriatric counseling help people who suffer from dementia?

Counseling can be highly effective for aging adults with dementia. While some therapists specializing in dementia may work with clients solely on topics surrounding memory loss, they can also assist clients with conditions that may co-occur at old age, such as anxiety or depression. Counselors specializing in working with older adults can also offer an objective assessment of a client’s functioning or disease progression to caregivers, and they may be particularly knowledgeable about community resources that may benefit dementia clients and their families. Therapists specializing in dementia may also be trained in specialized forms of therapy for memory-loss|memory loss, such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)—which can help mentally stimulate dementia clients to preserve cognitive functioning.
