Whether you shut down, avoid things you know will help or act out in anger or avoidance, there is likely a longing in your heart to feel valued, understood and cared for.
Worries, relationship difficulties, sadness are all welcome here. You are tired of feeling irritable. Your feelings about your yourself have begun to dominate your thoughts. Your ability to focus may be suffering. When your phone rings, you don't want to answer. You are feeling like you don't know how to get out of your own way. You know you mean well and are capable, but things are not coming together. You promise yourself things will change, you will get a handle on things this time. However, change remains elusive.

I am now accepting new clients as of 7/10/24! I have many years experience working with individuals and couples, teaching them how to be more resilient, deal better with life changes, be more relational, have healthier boundaries improve self esteem, while helping them build their character. I also have several years of experience, teaching couples therapy how to be more relational. I also have thoughts and resources for men regarding masculinity and how to use that as a strength both personally and professionally. I enjoy working with men and seeing them grow.

Cognitive Therapy is a model of psychotherapy whose objective is to help people identify inaccurate thought patterns and assumptions that cause anxiety or depression, and that may even affect functioning. It can be challenging to pinpoint and correct these thoughts. Nonetheless, the process of acquiring healthier, reality-based ways of perceiving and actually trying out new solutions to old problems can improve symptoms and mood considerably. In cognitive therapy, I work collaboratively with patients to help them identify and understand how perceptions can interfere with their mood and decision-making, and we work together on a plan to achieve better balance for their life.

CBT really works! Especially when you are working with a trained and experienced therapist. I hold advanced certification in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and use this approach exclusively. Together we will work to improve your insight, mood and motivation. You will learn what influences your mood and decision-making, and how ways of thinking and doing can lead to feeling stuck and hopeless. In addition to CBT, I can teach you powerful skills to improve distress tolerance and emotional regulation. These are skills you will learn to use now, and can rely on in the future.

I know how difficult it is to make that phone call and admit that you need help. Because of my personality, education and experience, I am able to make people feel comfortable to finally open up to someone and to let me help them. The quality of the therapeutic relationship is more important than any theoretical approach and it is this relationship that I focus on nurturing and it is this relationship that keeps clients coming back through the years, when they encounter hardships.

Hi I’m Victoria! I’m so glad you’re here! I hope this is the first step in your personal growth journey. Mental Health is such an important part of our lives, and I feel it is the ultimate “self care” as it often leads to more insight, self awareness, and positive changes. The goal is to live with more intention and kindness towards others and most importantly ourselves. There are many reasons why someone may be interested in therapy - all of them are valid.

I treat a range of diagnostic presentations and specialize in working with anger challenges, self-harming issues, learning/executive function challenges, and college transition issues.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults who have often had unsuccessful prior treatment experiences. They feel that my knowledge and holistic approach to treatment will provide them with a healthier pathway forward in their life. Although I have a depth of experience to share with my patients I value learning from them on a daily basis. To facilitate change I employ a range of focused DBT and CBT strategies that I also teach to younger clinicians who train with my practice. I have maintained a professional home for 30 years at Harvard Medical School where I serve as a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry.

My specialty areas include, but are not limited to, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, life transitions, and interpersonal stress.
It can be so difficult to ask for help and it takes courage to take this first step in starting therapy. I recognize that it can be daunting to talk about the challenges you are facing and make the changes you are looking for. I believe that every person has the ability to grow given the proper tools and support. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist that provides services to adults (ages 18 and older) and I honor diversity in my practice. My aim is to partner with you to create a space where you will feel empowered to reach your goals in treatment and improve your overall well-being.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
