We all would like our lives to be deeply satisfying, with good relationships, a sense of belonging, and a feeling like we are contributing members of society. However, sometimes we lose our way. We experience a loss of connection to ourselves or with others, we maintain beliefs and behaviors that were once helpful but now no longer serve us, or we get stuck in relationships that lack mutuality and intimacy. As a clinical psychologist with over fifteen years experience, I use a variety of techniques as we journey together help you:

My goal is to help each client I work with feel empowered to be an active part of their own healing. I believe that my job is to create a safe space for clients to explore how to use many of their own strengths to get back on track when life has become overwhelming. I focus on teaching skills to bring some immediate relief while also addressing the underlying issues that are contributing to unhelpful patterns that have become part of the problem. I have a practical style that incorporates much warmth and compassion for each person's journey.

I believe clients begin therapy with many of the tools they need to live fulfilled lives. Sometimes these abilities can become obscured by the challenges life presents us. The goal of therapy is to help connect clients to their potentials and give them the confidence they need to live the lives they want, the lives they deserve. Therapy is collaborative. Therapist and client work as a team towards the goal of change. Incredible things can come from the smallest change. Subtle changes in the way a person thinks and acts can have a profound impact on their quality of life.

Have you been having a difficult time lately? Are you feeling anxious, sad, overwhelmed, or struggling with relationships? You are not alone. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and life transitions. Some struggle with relationships. My job is to listen, help clients develop healthier coping strategies, and learn how to improve relationships. Sometimes that happens by learning or improving skills and being accountable for our actions. Sometimes we need a bit more.

Anxiety and stress impact all of us. When things in your life feel unmanageable, it's time to get some support. It can feel vulnerable reaching out but typically people feel better once they take the first step.

I believe we are not meant to go alone through life's challenges. Loss, grief, and unexpected changes; sense of purpose or meaning; questions of identity, gender, or sexuality; aging or illness; the role of spirituality in our lives - all of these can feel too overwhelming to sort through alone. In my practice, I offer space and support to bring fears and questions out of the darkness and into a shared, safe environment where they can be faced. I work with adults, teens, and youth ten and older, with a client-centered, strengths-based approach to help you find your best path forward.

“I know what I need to do to feel better”, “How is talking about my problems going to do anything”,...these are just a couple of the reasons why people can be apprehensive about therapy. Let’s talk about what therapy can do for you instead. By working collaboratively we can work together to decrease anxiety and depression, increase self esteem, enhance insight and better understanding of self, as well as to identify patterns of behaviors and thinking just to name a few benefits. Therapy isn’t a magic wand, and you aren’t going to be happy every day, or never experience stress again.

Each of us have the capacity to reach our fullest potentials. However, we often find ourselves stuck in negative patterns of thinking and being, unable to see other possibilities. Therapy allows us as individuals and family units to create meaning out of the various life experiences that we have encountered and can help to open up new ways of thinking, feeling, and being. I provide individual and family counseling in a comfortable and confidential setting. I treat those who experience issues related to trauma, anger management, self-injury, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, identity issues, and self-esteem challenges.

In life, all of us can use help along the way. There are many reasons to start therapy but ultimately, we all want to feel better and live happier lives! At any point, we can all struggle with stress, anxiety, sadness or have a difficult time managing certain aspects of our lives. We can also feel stuck in patterns or behaviors that make it hard to live the life we want to live and it can feel overwhelming to figure out what to do next. Whether you are searching for yourself or your child, therapy can help.

We all find ourselves feeling stuck sometimes. I believe that we develop ways of handling things from past experiences and when those things stop working, we struggle to find another way to handle the situation. I work with clients to identify where we learned our behaviors and how to adjust our mindset and actions so that we get the outcome we want. I work with clients through life transitions and help to build self confidence in our ability to live the life we want to be living. Everyone should be able to live the life they want to live, I want to help you figure out exactly what that is and how to get there.

We are, first and foremost, scientist practitioners. Our practice is guided by the most current research available. The treatments we utilize have been shown to be most effective in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life among patients with anxiety, mood and related disorders. We focus on what works. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an umbrella term for methods that share a focus on thoughts and behaviors that maintain symptoms, willingness to try new behaviors, and patterns of relating to our experiences. Between-session practice of these strategies serves to consolidate gains achieved in treatment sessions.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
