There are a range of reasons why intimacy might feel out of reach or we feel disconnected from ourselves (or our partner.) Perhaps it’s all of the “stuff” you were taught about who you “should” be as a sexual being, or what intimacy is supposed to look like in a relationship. Maybe it’s because unrealistic body standards have invited themselves into the bedroom and are getting in the way of feeling present and pleasure. Or perhaps you and your partner have been at odds with your differing levels of sexual desire and needs, and are feeling defeated in finding a system that “works" for both of you.

Relationships, sex, communication, and intimacy are all topics that can feel isolating, and scary. But, with the right supportive partner, it can feel freeing. As a culturally sensitive Couple and Family Therapist, I can help you navigate these struggles, and support you through the process. I understand that embarking on a journey of therapy can seem daunting, which is why I am here to take the drive with you. During your therapy journey, you will have control of the steering wheel but will have the full support of myself in the passenger seat beside you. Together we can embark on a journey that can create a healthier you.

The therapeutic environment offers a unique opportunity to share, confront, and enhance parts of ourselves while exploring and discovering deeper traits and skills that we may possess. As a therapist, I believe in empowering the individual through therapeutic experiences that foster a lasting change outside of the therapy setting. I cherish the opportunity to engage in this relationship and commit myself to doing the work with you and supporting your exploration. I value modeling transparency, care, boundaries, and healthy support systems. I believe that challenging dialogue in a safe environment leads to internal growth.

Shame and stigma can permeate every aspect of our lives and make pleasure, love and work challenging, painful and sometimes impossible. Shame and stigma often mask something special and remarkable about a person; talents, identities, ways of living or loving that are unappreciated, misunderstood and even repudiated. Deviance and difference should not be requisites for pain and failure; those qualities can be empowering and liberating. Often, it is a dominant culture that pulls the veil of shame over our eyes and hearts. Our stories and ourselves are worthy of dignity and care, regardless of what we learn from the dominant discourse.

Hola! I am Monserrat Pulido, a Latina licensed clinical social worker at New Insights Behavioral Health Services. I am a skilled and bilingual therapist who has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I recognize the stigma that can sometimes be associated with mental health services, especially within the Latinx community. What many don't know is that taking care of your mental health is as important as taking care of your physical health. It's okay to not be okay but it's also okay to ask for help. Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or not, I invite you to embark on this healing journey together.

Loss can be a shattering experience. Whether it's the death of a beloved partner, family member, friend, or even a major medical diagnosis, relationship breakup, or job loss, you know your life will never be the same. You're not even sure how to pick up the pieces, let alone how to rebuild your life. Yet, much like kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, therapy can offer you a place to rebuild your shattered spirit in a transformational way. Working together, I aim to empower you to rebuild your life in line with what matters most to you using your own unique strengths, talents, and life experiences.

To me, therapy is a team sport. I'm there to help create a space and relationship where you feel safe exploring the things that are happening in your life. Maybe that thing is identity exploration, depression or anxiety that just won't quit, or figuring out how survive and then thrive after a big trauma. All of this is big stuff. I'm here to help you hold it and find a way through it. I have plenty of tools that I can bring to bear (questions, coping skills training, identifying patterns, and reframing situations), but ultimately, my approach centers around you and what you need to be successful, however you define success.

As a therapist and healer, I believe it is necessary to have an intersectional understanding of systemic oppression and all the harm it can bring to an individual. I work with adolescents and adults who want to expand their skills for communication, trust, and radical self-acceptance. Healing happens in community, and I work with my clients to help them locate themselves in a resourced community. I use decolonizing/re-indigenizing practices to help empower my clients to live authentically, joyfully, and with as much safety as possible in an oppressive society.

Most, if not all of us have a plan for our lives, but things do not always go according to that plan. We face detours or worse, having to reimagine that life all together. We aren’t always ready for these changes, and it can leave us feeling alone, depressed, anxious, stuck, unmotivated, or even scared. I use an integrative approach that utilizes psychoeducation and mindfulness in a safe and open space to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered to re-envision the plan you had for yourself.
