In addition to working with children and teens, I love working with adults, couples, and families struggling with a variety of life challenges from trauma or anxiety to relationship issues.
Are you interested in learning more about a therapeutic journey where art, play, and creativity will become powerful tools for healing and growth? I'm here to guide you through a world where therapy isn't just about talking – it's about painting, sculpting, and imagining. As a therapist deeply passionate about working with children, I've discovered that art, expressive arts, and play therapy offer profound avenues for emotional expression and transformation. So, if you're ready to witness your child's potential unfold in a space where imagination knows no bounds, I would be so honored to be a part of your journey!

I work with a variety of issues including sexual trauma, relationship strife, depression, anxiety, and single parenthood.
“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path”- Buddhist quote . I am here to support you on this path. Feeling heard, respected, and validated when life feels overwhelming can be a great comfort. Are you are dealing with a past trauma that feels unbearable, hindering you from your authentic self? Maybe it's been difficult to create boundaries, leaving you feeling depleted and unable to incorporate self-care. Perhaps you and your partner are struggling to empathize with one another. My goal is to aid my clients to release from harmful patterns and process past pain that impair wellbeing.

I work with adults navigating major life transitions (post-college, relocation, career, relationship, new parent, marriage, retirement), anxiety disorders, relationship issues (including couples work), coping with cancer and other chronic illness (both patients and loved ones) and with healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, therapists).
Feeling overwhelmed, constantly unsettled or a persistent sadness that colors everything? Drained energy and mental exhaustion can leave us not knowing how to start the healing process. Seeking support is a courageous step to allow another person in and build a safe relationship in order to facilitate change. I provide a nonjudgemental supportive environment where we can work together to decrease feelings of depression, anxiety, confusion, and other uncomfortable states we often find ourselves in. I will empower and challenge you to increase self-awareness, develop insight, and learn healthy ways to cope with life's challenges.

I believe the most important relationship we will ever have is the relationship we have with ourselves. We live in our bodies and our minds 24/7 and are so often at odds with what is inside of us. We dislike, belittle, cajole, judge, and hold ourselves up to rigid standards...and all within our own private universe. How we relate to ourselves will determine how we relate to our partners, others, as well as to environmental issues, and, ultimately, will determine how happy we are.

I focus on the root of discomfort, exploring past wounds and relationship dynamics.
We mask emotional pain with people-pleasing, perfectionism, care-taking, workaholism, and controlling tendencies. Often, this leads to exhaustion and resentment towards ourselves and loved ones. If this sounds like a cycle you’re stuck in, I can help you get out of it. Together, we’ll identify behaviors and patterns which no longer serve you, cultivate a deeper and more compassionate understanding of yourself, and bring a sense of relief into your life. Our sessions will feel collaborative, empowering, challenging and decompressing.

If you are a person of color (POC), in the LGBTQ community, and/or are non-monogamous/poly, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse populations for over 15 years. In working with a culturally competent therapist like me, you can focus on what brought you to therapy in the first place and not on explaining or “teaching” the nuances of your culture and sexuality. My expertise is in helping those who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I’m trained in EMDR, an evidence-based therapy that treats trauma and other difficulties.

In my practice, I believe the therapeutic relationship is sacred and created in partnership with each client to foster safety, compassion, patience and a sense of curiosity. Together we can create an environment to explore your personal challenges, emotions, imagination, limiting beliefs, trauma and any other issues that come forward to be worked through. When a person actively engages the world in a new way it can lead to greater awareness, self confidence, joy, peace and the ability to bring a more authentic, accurate centered sense of self into their relationships.

I specialize in working with young adults who deal with self esteem, mood, and relationship issues.
In working with adolescents and young adults, I often see them struggle with unconscious pattern behaviors that relate to early experience. The unspoken or unprocessed trauma or negative experience can affect people for years. My role in therapy is to support clients in raising awareness of their feelings, thoughts, and needs, which can help them make healthier decisions and achieve self-actualization.

Whether you’re in a long-term relationship, or a new one, I love helping couples, which is why I trained in The Gottman Method.
I help couples find connection again, so that everything doesn’t have to be so hard. I want to help you communicate more effectively, so that you can locate your friendship and be able to hear, see and support each other. My hope is to create a space for you to have the difficult conversations you avoid the rest of the week. I've been married for over 30 years, and I know firsthand the ups and downs of partnerships.

My general practice includes counseling where finances are a significant trigger for self criticism or conflict in a relationship; also in families where either silence/withdrawal on the one hand or conflict on the other eat away at the fiber of the household or family business.
See my website rogerschwarz.com, including the video, about who I treat and how I work. I welcome you if you're at that point where you just don't want to continue feeling the same lousy way so much of the time. Usually that's caused by not being able to stop getting triggered no matter how much willpower you muster. It's hard to stay positive when the triggering constantly leads to predictable behavior that leads to predictable, hurtful results.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
