I utilize DBT skills as a foundation to my approach.

Are you looking to begin to address issues that are making your life unmanageable or are you looking to continue to work through issues that are more complicated than you expected? I am an independently licensed therapist that specializes in working with individuals who feel imbalanced, lost and disconnected. Since practicing for 22+ years, I am trained in most of the therapy abbreviations: IFS, EMDR, DBT, ACT, EFT, Gottman Method, Sex therapy, Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy & others.
Your ability to seek out resources amidst the pain is a magnificent part of you, and I want to speak to that part. It is important that you remember that growth and healing is not about fixing what is “wrong” with you because you are not broken. Instead of fixing, our time together will be an exploration of all parts of you, one of curiosity and compassion, designed to unearth and liberate the wisdom that already exists inside of you. Going to therapy doesn’t mean that you can’t handle life’s challenges on our own. Rather, it’s a gift that you give yourself to stay mentally and emotionally fit.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and solution focused therapeutic approaches.
Are you struggling with stress? Life’s daily hassles? Confidence/Self-Esteem? Mood instability? Anxiety? At the end of the day struggles and challenges are a part of life, but it is HOW we manage when struggles and challenges arise that make the difference. In addition to a few other “secret weapons,” I have garnered much experience supporting and helping adults and teens challenged with symptoms of depression, anxiety, addiction, stress, and other psychiatric illnesses to manage their symptoms by utilizing tools, coping skills, and practicing behavioral interventions.

I am also trained in DBT and EMDR and have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings.
You may have landed on this professional profile because you are taking stock of your life and realize that the life you have is not the one you envisioned for yourself. Whether you are bored or in a lot of pain, you may be seeking growth and change, possibly a sense of aliveness. Counseling can be a safe, nurturing setting to slow down and listen to your soul and your body. As you become aware of yourself, you begin to understand how you got to where you are, why you do what you do, and what new paths are possible to you. As a trained therapist from a relational-psychodynamic perspective, I see therapy as a collaborative process.

I use CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused work, using mindfulness, breathing techniques, visualization, and goal setting to help clients reach their short and long-term goals.
My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerned as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

I am trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and use dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and other therapeutic modalities – but no matter the technique, the quality of the therapeutic relationship we create is what facilitates true healing.
Society’s rigid rules produce trauma not only when we experience disaster, but also when denied the opportunity to develop our identities. Whether LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, racial minority, or living with trauma or disease, we stumble through the world, learning to anticipate constant challenge and new ways to be hurt. When others speak of fond memories, we recall the effort we put into masking through it. When memories are too painful, we try to forget them – but they stay with us, hiding below our conscious mind where they wreak havoc on our bodies, creating chronic pain, addiction, mental illness and disease.

My integrative approach to counseling utilizes techniques from person-centered, DBT, CBT, EMDR, Gottman, and mindfulness.
“The more you understand how worthy you are, the more likely you’ll find your strength again.” - Tabitha Brown. It is essential to understand our own worth and to learn who we are as individuals. Unfortunately through various life events, we may lose sight of who we are or never learn who we are at all. When we don’t have an understanding of our own worth, it is difficult to find our inner strength and to understand what we deserve out of life and relationships. Due to feelings of unworthiness and/or low self-esteem, we may end up making decisions, choosing relationships, and reacting to life in ways that do not serve us well.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
