Perhaps you have tried talk therapy, understand your past and still feel a sense of disconnection, anxiety or depression? If this is the case, you have come to the right place. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, who will help you learn how to regulate your nervous system and move through your life with greater presence, ease and vitality. Although we all need to be heard, retelling your story over and over will not provide resolution. Unresolved trauma healing requires a wholistic approach in order to build resilience. If your goal is to gain mastery over your life, I can help you.

If you find yourself today experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, struggling with loneliness, finances, or relational or physical boundaries. I believe these emotions can be your body sounding off the alarm bells, letting you know that something, someone, or some circumstance does not feel safe. The goal is not just about coping with life challenges; it’s about increasing awareness of circumstances causing discomfort or pain and developing new patterns to replace non-serving ones.

That saying, "What doesn't kill me makes me stronger" -- I think it should be "What doesn't kill me makes me suffer." So many people feel unheard, disconnected, tired, worthless, fearful, sad, anxious and forgettable. They need the skills to nurture their resilience, to discern their incredible value. There's a loneliness in struggling. But I'm here to help you heal yourself with a new, creative perspective and find resources you didn't know you possessed.

As a Counselor and Coach in long term recovery from both substance and process addictions, I've received support from some very special humans who've lit the way for me to peer into the areas of my path that were either blind spots or I just couldn't see from an objective perspective (yet). After a career in corporate marketing, I'm grateful to have transitioned to providing the work that's helped me come to terms with life and my place in it; work that feeds my soul and shines the light on those dark places so many of us are afraid to venture into alone. Together, we can explore and make meaning of what's happened to you.

I believe that people have the innate capacity for change. In life we are often dealt circumstances that are beyond our understanding and personal control. Many of these experiences distort our perception of who we truly are. My role is to collaborate with you to explore your past and reconnect you to your authentic self. People are natural storytellers. In our work together we will identify which parts of your story add value to your life and which can be altered to improve the way you understand yourself and the circumstances in your life.

Far too often individuals deny themselves the benefit of therapy because they believe that doing so would be acknowledging their own personal faults or weaknesses. As a masters prepared clinician, I provide a nurturing environment whereby individuals feel safe to explore solutions to their current life challenges without fear of judgement. Building a strong, trusting, therapeutic relationship is the foundation for the collaborative work that will take place during sessions. Individuals will feel supported and empowered to address their current challenges, and reclaim their life.

My therapeutic style can best be described as warm, straight forward, and humorous. I have a strong belief that my clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences. I view that my job as a therapist is to assist my clients in finding their own meaning, purpose, and direction in life. To do this, I challenge my clients to live their lives authentically and according to their own moral compass. I have a non-judgmental, person-centered therapeutic approach. I work with my clients on taming that inner critic, which I like to refer to as their gremlin, and ever so politely showing it the door.

My work is influenced by the thought of existentialist philosophers and psychologists who speak compassionately to a profound and uniquely human dilemma—the quest for meaning in the face of suffering. Psychotherapy provides a safe and intimate space in which we might expand our capacity to bear suffering and to find meaning within and through it. Depth psychology proposes that the psyche consists of both conscious and unconscious thoughts, impulses, fantasies, and ideas. Symptoms (of depression, anxiety, addictions, etc.) are more than painful indicators of psychopathology.

I see couples and individuals aged 16 and older working with betrayal trauma, sexual compulsivity, and building healthy relationships. I have a compassionate, attachment-based approach, but I am direct with my clients in an attempt to uncover barriers they have around connection and growth. I am a certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT), and also have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). So that I can be the best couple's therapist, I am also currently training as a certified sex therapist.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Arizona?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
