I believe when two (or more) people sit down together in a trusting and mutually respectful relationship, struggles become less burdensome, problems have the potential to be resolved, relationships can be mended and persons can heal and grow.
Having spent over 30 years in the human relations field, I bring a wealth of experience to my therapeutic work. I am a skilled psychotherapist who has worked in a not-for-profit agency setting in downtown Toronto, as an EAP counsellor and as an educator in a psychotherapy training program. I have spent thousands of hours with patients with a wide range of conditions, concerns, challenges and problems. I have been privileged to help patients work on their personal growth and healing in the context of a trusting psychotherapeutic relationship.

Finding a safe space to share what is really on our mind can be tough. Perhaps the closest relationships around us feel tense, and we could use a gentle place to work through our own feelings of pain, hurt, and overwhelm. Maybe you are hoping to better understand your own experience, to improve the way you show up in different parts of your life. I offer a holistic, trauma-informed approach, and recognize resilience and creativity. I work with teens and adults trying to take care of themselves while working through tough family and relationship issues, and provide a compassionate, nonjudgemental space.

I focus heavily on your individual values and helping you discover a meaning-centered life. I believe that therapies and the therapeutic relationship are as unique as the individual, while one style may suit you, it may not suit others. I am mindful of each individual who walks through the door.

In my work with clients, my goal is to help you explore and process the ways you feel stuck in your life and far from your goals. Are there stories you are holding about your life that are no longer serving you and are hard to let go of? I hope to help clients discover stuck narratives and choose the path that allows for a different kind of relationship with self and others. Whether it is a pattern of conflict you wish to approach differently, a topic you struggle to get perspective on or a challenge in the relationship you need help exploring thoughtfully, I hope to help create a space where change is possible.

I have worked extensively with teens, individuals and couples as they navigate various challenges including anxiety, depression, suicidality/self harm, relationship and interpersonal stressors, as well as complex trauma and PTSD. Some individuals are very aware of where they are struggling, which helps us to align quickly and start working together. Whereas others might be new to counselling and really want a trained clinician to help them to understand and make sense of their world and experiences in a safe, warm and supportive space. I offer a client centered approach and will meet you where you are at, wherever that might be.

At some points, we can all experience difficult times and need support to guide us through. Experiences that have caused anxiety, pain, grief, loss, lack of connection, or shame can feel overwhelming if left unrecognized. I have found that through the creation of a safe, supportive, client-therapist relationship healing and change can happen. Authenticity, trust & respect are the guideline principles of my practice.

While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
