Costs of living and studying abroad

Learn how to budget and understand the costs of living and studying abroad.

Making a budget

Numbeo is a great place to start researching the average cost of living in different countries. It provides up-to-date information on expenses such as housing, groceries, and transport, helping you create a realistic budget for your study abroad experience.

Tuition fees

Full academic year - students studying abroad or on a work placement pay a reduced tuition fee.

Single term - your tuition fee will be the same as if you completed the full year at NTU.

Host university - there is no tuition fee to pay to the host university (for exchange programmes only).

Fees and funding

You're entitled to funding if you're studying abroad as part of your course. It will come from your national student finance service. You'll pay a reduced tuition fee of £1,385 for your year of studying abroad. If you usually use student finance to pay for your course fees, you can receive a tuition fee loan to cover this.

If you apply for your funding through Student Finance England, you may also be eligible for:

  • a higher Maintenance Loan to help cover some of the extra living costs that you could incur,
  • Travel Grant to help pay towards travel costs, visas, and travel insurance.

Grants are subject to availability and the amount will depend on your household income. Please be aware that you'll always have to pay some of your travel costs yourself.

If you're from Northern IrelandScotland, or Wales, your funding package may be different. Please check your national student finance service’s website for more information.
