The performance and battery life are pulling all the weight for the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition, and that spark comes from Qualcomm. I wanted to love the Surface Laptop, but too many cons started stacking on one another. The monitor ghosting is assuredly the last chip to get me to fold. If you’re looking for a premium laptop that can do almost everything you need, go with the Apple MacBook Pro 14 (M3, 2023). Longer battery life and a cheaper price will comfort you. The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition is not a bad laptop, but a disappointment considering it comes from the biggest name in tech and the company with the leading PC operating system.

Now is an exciting time in the world of laptops and the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 is in the vanguard. It’s big, beautifully made, has better battery life than a MacBook Air, is plenty powerful and impressively easy to repair and upgrade. It’s a higher-class computer than the Asus Vivobook and it has advantages over the MacBook Air 15in as well. Even the price, which is higher than the Vivobook, is still low enough to undercut Apple’s rival machines. In short, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 is an easy machine to recommend – it’s a fantastic premium laptop that’s a dream to use.

Regardless of how well it performs or how much better its app compatibility is, we still don't see an ironclad reason to run out and buy a Copilot+ PC just yet. The Snapdragon X Elite is a quick processor, and kudos are definitely due to Qualcomm for making the laptop-chip market a three-player game now. And most applications we use run without issue. But Intel's and AMD’s Copilot-ready chips are close behind, and x86 will obviate compatibility issues altogether. We’ve seen long-lasting Intel Core Ultra laptops already, and Lunar Lake, in particular, promises lots of speed, too, so waiting may be worthwhile. This isn’t to take away from the new Surface Laptop itself.

While I've always found touchscreen functionality to be more beneficial on larger screens, using the smaller 13.8-inch Surface Laptop feels more like a 2-in-1 tablet. When my typing space is confined, like on a bus, plane, or crowded café, being able to simply reach over and tap, swipe, and drag elements on the screen is very helpful and intuitive.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 ($999 to start) is the first Surface Laptop to ship with a Qualcomm CPU inside, and Microsoft is making a meal of this upgrade. That's because the Surface Laptop 7 — or as Microsoft brands it, the Surface Laptop 7th Generation — comes with either a Snapdragon X Plus or Snapdragon X Elite chip inside. These new Qualcomm chips have NPUs (Neural Processing Units) that qualify them to be the first of Microsoft's new Copilot+ PCs, Windows 11 computers with NPUs capable of supporting advanced AI features in Windows. These new chips are marketed as delivering long-lasting performance with support for on-device AI, and we're looking forward to putting them to the test when we do a full review.

The tall screen and comfy keyboard have always supported that mission, and now the addition of Snapdragon chips inside could supercharge these laptops' capabilities even as the upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 makes them more future-proof.

Qualcomm SD X Adreno X1-85 3.8 TFLOPS GPU: En integrerad grafikadapter som flera Snapdragon X Elite- och X Plus-processorer har. Adreno har inget stöd för SUHD 4320p-bildskärmar och när det gäller prestanda är det inte mycket snabbare än den åldrande 96 EU Intel Iris Xe iGPU.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
