Summer Experiences

Through partnerships with like-minded entities, NACME offers special summer experiences for Black/African American, Native/American Indian, and Latinx/Hispanic American students who wish to excel in the fields of engineering or computer science. These special programs provide supplemental training with in-demand technologies or provide instruction in math and science for high school students and rising freshmen interested in pursuing engineering and computer science degrees.

Southeast Michigan Pathway Program (Sponsored by Ford)

Our two-week, tuition free summer program prepared students for a career in engineering with accelerated math courses, mentoring from a Ford engineer, and priority access to a scholarship from NACME.

The University of Michigan Office of Culture, Community and Equity (OCCE) offered a two-week residential summer program to a cohort of 30 Detroit-area rising 11th graders from July 7th to July 23rd, 2024. The program focused on the foundations of programming, math, and engineering concepts. It also covered college readiness and professional development, including starting the college search process, and engaging with NACME/Ford professionals. Additionally, scholars engaged with the University of Michigan campus community to build a sense of belonging.

Mechanical Engineering Design

Boot Camp (Sponsored by Autodesk)

NACME, in partnership with Autodesk, hosted a summer boot camp from Sunday, June 2nd to Friday, August 9th, 2024, to provide mechanical engineering students with interactive learning coupled with a technical certification and an externship. This nine-week hybrid program offered rising sophomores an opportunity to take a second-year level course that is regarded as a gateway to successful completion of a mechanical engineering major. Students received approximately 120 hours of specialized training for certification in Autodesk Fusion led by Autodesk instructors. To bookend the experience, students will take part in an all-expenses-covered, two-day, onsite externship at Autodesk in Georgia.
