And also having far right terrorist views apparently - he’s a kid ffs a gay Jewish kid being bullied - is this what the counter-extremism police are really supposed to be dealing with?

Prevent investigates boy, 12, for saying there 'are only two genders'

A 12-year-old schoolboy has been investigated by counter-extremism officers after he declared there 'are only two genders' and 'there's no such thing as non-binary'.

Prevent is a monster that needs taking behind the barn and shooting. It was intended as a means of intimidating Muslims with the wrong opinions and now it's spread its tentacles.

The Tories under Cameron wanted to be able to impose banning orders on people the state seems "extremist" (people who the state deem extreme but do not carry out or incite violence). These orders would have greatly restricted the civil rights of people who didn't break the law.

I see Mark Rowley wants to be able to act against people who don't break the law.

The political class seems to be composed of people who have forgotten the totalitarian horrors of the 20th century, that we were in armed standoff with and defined ourselves against countries with such laws.

Agree mach, it's very concerning.

#TwoTierPolicing

All the terrorism on this issue has come from transactiivsts, who regularly try and terrorise women, turning up to threaten them with violence when they meet.

Not one GC person has ever behaved in the terroristic manner of transactivists.

And yet the police target GC, not transactivism.

I am so angry that the tories have allowed the infilitration of all the institutions of state by this regressive ideology. They woke up too late and did too little to counter it and now we're going to have this sort of shit for the next five years.

This child is thought to be in danger of being radicalised. Which he is. His mother is obviously manipulating him-she's the one posting the videos in his name. The situation obviously needs to be investigated.

I think what radicalises people is visiting a 12 year old Jewish boy accusing him of terrorism for knowing that sex exists and for being gay.

Well done Stonewall. All that training you did under the Diversity Equity and Inclusion banner. All that income generated. Thing is, I think you are proud of what you became.

Unless I've missed it, there's nothing to say that the other children weren't also referred to Prevent.
It's not a punishment, it's intended as a supportive measure to prevent extremism - clue's in the name.
I would imagine that the child's online activity, and parents' supervision of such, would also have played a part. I've made referrals to Prevent myself and I believe there's more to this than has been reported.

Wow you couldn’t make it up. Maybe they should have been focusing on the foul anti-Semitic racism occurring under their watch instead of treating the victim as a terrorist! But yes of course a gay Jewish boy is a far right extremist 🙄. Queer is also a horrible homophobic slur. It infuriates me that the vast majority of people who feel entitled to ‘reappropriate’ it have never had it directed at them as a term of abuse.

Prevent’s job isn’t to police racism, antisemitism or gender beliefs. It’s to prevent radicalisation that could lead to terrorism.

The fact the child is Jewish is completely irrelevant here.

If the news report is correct he has been referred to prevent because a) he says there are only 2 genders and b) he rejects the word queer.

This couldn’t be more ridiculous. Who actually believes that rejecting alternate genders make a person at risk of radicalisation??!! It’s a legal right to hold and express that opinion.

She said counter terror officers - who visited the family home - raised concerns over the fact that her son, who is Jewish, harboured extremist views on account of his response when asked if there were any groups that shouldn't exist.

She said her son responded that 'Hamas (the Gaza-based terror group) should be wiped out'.

That is from the article, so I think the fact that he is Jewish (and also how he has been terribly abused for it) is relevant here. He is a part of two groups currently being targeted by the kind of people who act as TRAs.

It's obvious even from the very positive DM report that this child is being manipulated by his mother. So yes, it is entirely right that the situation is investigated.

What part of his (or his mums views) are relevant to far right extremism?

How is he being manipulated? And manipulated into what, exactly?

@SamW98 The term "far right" was only used in the report by the writer. No quotation marks. There were apparently many other "accusations" not listed. We have very few facts, except that a child is being manipulated by his mother for reasons unknown. Good that it is being investigated for his protection.

Thank you I missed that. So perhaps as ever the headlines leave a lot out and much of the story isn’t known to the media anyway.

I think you ought to examine your own biases. There is not even a hint of manipulation in that report. There is evidence of intimidation by the police and the school.
Oh I overlooked his mother buying him a toy crossbow

You have no evidence that his mother is manipulating him.

In what seems to have been a total failure to prevent her son from being bullied for believing sex is real and for being Jewish, she helped him post a video he has made about what he believed to the internet.

The school reacted to having their failure exposed and (vidictively ie they could have suggested having a meeting) referred hinm to Prevent. (Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??)

He feels, powerless, and I suspect his mother does as well. The institutions (education & police) have closed ranks and left her with view options.

And given how many gender critical women have turned to the DM because our liberal media wont give them a voice, she has taken equivilent action.

If that boy was your son what would you do.

The idea that state sponsored organisation should just be meekly accepted is terrifyingly dangerous.

The problem is the school.

They should be reported to which ever education authority they are part of.

Or alternatively the UK could report Netanyahu to Prevent.

The school (and all adults working with children) have a duty to report concerns. They don't investigate and it's the prevent team who are qualified to support kids at risk of radicalisation.

You should always pass on niggles that something isn't right so they can be looked into properly. The referral isn't the problem, it's that we don't know exactly what it contained that's making people speculate.

The school should had dealt with the bullying.

The "concerns" are that the school pupils were bullying a boy for being Jewish and believe sex is a biological fact.

The only concenrs are the schools failure.

There is absolutely NOTHING in this situation that is any where near the remit of Prevent.

Lets just hope that most other schools have had clear training about what Prevent is meant for, and more importantly how to protect a pupil who has a minority opinion.

From Government leaflet on Prevent:

The overall aim of our counter-terrorism strategy, is to reduce the risk from terrorism to the UK, its citizens and interests overseas, so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence. Prevent remains one of the key pillars of CONTEST, alongside the
other three ‘P’ work strands:
• Prevent: to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism
• Pursue: to stop terrorist attacks
• Protect: to strengthen our protection against a terrorist attack
• Prepare: to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack

The aim of Prevent is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Prevent also extends to supporting the rehabilitation and disengagement of those already involved in terrorism.

The Prevent duty requires specified authorities such as education,
health, local authorities, police and criminal justice agencies (prisons
and probation) to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or
supporting terrorism. It sits alongside long-established safeguarding duties on professionals to protect people from a range of other harms, such as substance abuse, involvement in gangs, and physical and sexual exploitation. The duty helps to ensure that people who are susceptible to radicalisation are supported as they would be under safeguarding processes.
