Are you supposed to cut it?

Yes, you are also supposed to unpick any stitched up pockets.

Yes otherwise when you sit down the vent won’t be able to open and the coat won’t be able to “spread”. They only put the stitch in to keep the line of the coat or jacket when it’s hanging in the shop.

This drives me crazy!

I see so many people with the stitch in still and I'm tempted to karate chop it out for them but not sure how well that would go down?

Agree it needs removing.

See also men who don't remove the maker's label that is usually tacked to the wrist of a suit jacket.

Also the tag on some handbags that says 'REAL LEATHER'. We know.

OMG yes. I so want to tell people on the tube... (I don't, obvs.)

What about people who keep the plastic covers on new car seats...?

I am so desperate to tell people this. Young men with a new jacket, women on their way to (interview? New job?) with a new coat or a pencil skirt with the stitch still there.

Most pencil skirts with a vent in the back will have this basting stitch too. Please remove!

Also, the fabric loops inside some dresses or tops. They are only there to help the clothes stay on the hangers in the shop, if you don't cut them out they will forever stick out of the arm holes

I have been known to quietly tell people on the tube that they have "forgotten" to unpick it.

I often leave my pockets stitched up if they are the flat ones in the sides of lightweight smart trousers because they stop lying flat and neat after a while.

@thenightsky yes pockets as it stops you putting stuff in them and ruining the line plus people can't see this but not the back of coats or skirts.

They also help them to stay on the hangers at home!

(although I've recently switched to velvet hangers - game changing)
