‘In’ brands for a 12 year old boy

What brands are ‘in’ for an 12 year old boy? I need to buy DS a new winter coat and a few other bits. He likes Nike trainers but beyond that is fairly clueless about what’s in, although he desperately wants to fit in. Before I get flamed, he has high functioning ASD and struggles socially - although he doesn’t really know what is “cool”, he knows he wants to be like the cool kids, and anything we can do to minimise the stress of having the “wrong” gear at school will be a good thing (and hopefully avoid costly mistakes).

Would a North Face jacket be good? Jack Wolfskin? We need warm, waterproof, outdoorsy. He hates coming shopping, and gets overwhelmed looking online, so taking him with me to choose something isn’t an option - I probably need to narrow it down to 2 or 3 online choices. Thank you.

You can’t go wrong with the North Face. Good quality and certainly popular with my son who is almost 12. It’ll last ages too.

Thanks all - we are quite rural so probably a bit behind London fashions, I will go for bog standard and unremarkable and hope to get 2 years out of the coat at least.

Not London and my 11 year old just bought a Champion coat. And his 14 year old sister was eying up a Champion T-shirt.

Adidas is also popular.

Thanks again. Yes someone had warned me about Superdry. I’m a bit clueless about all of this, and DS is my eldest by a good few years so am still getting away with hand me downs and unbranded stuff for my younger children. I need to start paying attention!

Ask him. He'll tell you what's 'cool' and what isn't.

He sounds so similar to my own ds 12 who has high functioning autism. I posted on here once asking for 'in' trainer advice and someone said it was the saddest thread they had ever read Confused. Anyway my son has a lyle and scott coat, a north face, a pepe jeans denim jacket and a converse pack away raincoat. On tk maxx they have some good brands on I bought the lyle and scott coat from there and a few mums have asked where it's from.

Totally depends on the 12 year old. I would ask him what he would consider acceptable.

Sorry just read again. Take him with you to try some on and tell him what brands were recommended on here.

H&m are good for basics like jeans etc.
My 13 year old still loves Hollister. The hoodies are soft and very good quality. Yes, tk Maxx is brilliant for cool t shirts/ hoodies.
Lots of Champion stuff there.
