School coat to accomodate a blazer (secondary school)

I'm looking for a recommendation for a school coat that can accomodate a jumper and blazer inside.

My DD is starting secondary and must wear the blazer and unlike most children will want a coat (sensible girl).

Any tips gratefully received.

My dd has one like this as she has a mile walk home form school so I want her to be as dry as possible. She has to carry it around school as her school do not have lockers.

I went up a size so it will fit over the blazer.

I think if she has to wear a very thick padded coat over a blazer and a jumper, she'll get a bit overheated, unless it's exceptionally cold. I'd be more inclined to go for a thinnish waterproof, or the sort where a fleece layer and a waterproof layer zip together (sometimes available from places like Mountain Warehouse.) That way, if she's got it with her and it's not cold enough for her to want to wear it, she hasn't got quite so much to carry.

She says she'll want a coat a now... Don't spend too much on it, is my advice.

From a mother who spent absolutely ages searching for a coat for DS! Firstly, I got a really warm coat. Mistake! Doesn't fit in bag, has to be carried around or fetched from locker at end of day and also mostly too hot!

Then I got a North Face thin one, since he never loses things. Of course got then.

Finally, we got a Mountain Warehouse lined thin one. Which has been a great success. Thin effect for warmer days, gives enough warmth over blazer to survive the 1 mile walk even in the snow!

I'll see if I can find the one!

It was this one in a 13. He is normal size - age 12.

I would wait and let her see what sort of coat her friends are wearing. It won't be cold in September-it never is.

I would wait to buy one and see what everyone else does, as most kids want to just fit in. Most kids don't wear a coat at secondary here, those that do wear light jackets for fashion not warmth. They have to be carried around all day and I can see that's a bit of a pain for them when they have their bag and a PE kit 2 or 3 days a week as well.

Unfortunately, often even the most sensible kids change a lot when they go to secondary. Peer pressure and all that horrible teen stuff

I am confident she'll want a coat - always practical over fashion - and the school has lockers.

Dd1 was very definite about needing a coat - she is very practical.

I got her a soft shell jacket, waterproof, big enough to go over blazer and jumper, soft enough to scrunch into a ball and shove in bag/locker.

She hasn't worn it once for school.

When it rains she takes an umbrella, when it snowed she wore wrist warmers and a bobble hat.
