It needs washed..

No! It needs TO BE washed. I keep seeing variations on this theme on MN, and today heard someone using it irl. Is this a thing now?

Regional, used forever here in parts of NI. I think Scotland might be the same.

You also see "needs washing" which is also regional but in different regions (I think that one's more English?).

You'll see it on MN as people write informally in their regional dialect rather than formally as they would at work or in an essay.

I had no idea it is a regional thing, thanks for sharing, I will try to look at it through that lens, although it does sound odd to me. ‘It needs washing’ is the regional dialect norm where I am in England, you’re right!
